- A walking tour of Chinatown in San Francisco California. Chinatown in SF is a unique blend of traditional Chinese culture and modern American life. Located in the heart of the city, it is a popular tourist destination: in fact San Francisco's Chinatown gets more visitors annually than the Golden Gate Bridge.
The history of San Francisco Chinatown dates back to the 1850s, when Chinese immigrants arrived in the city to work on the transcontinental railroad and in the gold mines. Today, San Francisco Chinatown is a bustling neighborhood filled with shops, restaurants, and colorful street markets. Visitors can explore traditional Chinese architecture, such as the Gateway Arch, which marks the entrance to the neighborhood. The streets are lined with traditional lanterns, red banners, and paper mache lions, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

What a shame that you just passed by the Old St. Mary's Cathedral without saying a word. It is the first Cathedral in California.
Visiting San Francisco and staying just out of China town in June, so this was perfect timing. I must say it's bigger and different to how I imagined it, hoping to wander through, take some pictures and enjoy some cuisine. Thanks as always for your content Chris.
The only hidden wonder is that you were not mugged....
SF is in a terrible state.. it is no longer the city that people imagine.
Golden Gate FCF is NOT the inventor of the fortune cookie. Nor are they the first.
Speaking of it, Union Square is dead
I’m pretty sure San Francisco’s Chinatown seems “bustling” to tourist who think gift shops make a chinatown authentic. It is in fact most likely a dying chinatown which will become apparent within the next few decades. I doubt there is a growing young population that can afford to live there. What makes a Chinatown authentic is if actual Chinese residents live in the Chinatown who’s growing families also will continue to live in the area. I definitely don’t see young families of kids around SF’s Chinatown.
The fortune cookie was invented and first made by the Japanese Gardener who gave them to the City Council in gratitude for saving the now famous Japanese Gardens from demolition after the World's Fair was held in SF many years ago.
I think New York Chinatown is bigger than San Francisco Chinatown
Can't believe you blew past the most iconic bookstore in America. City Lights Bookstore.
Chris, you're the most upbeat, happy, and fun person I have ever come across. It's so refreshing to listen to your vlogs
