I don’t understand why they went through the trouble of making a brand new wheel, only to make it in the wrong color for this car. these rims should’ve been white and if they were, I think it would’ve drastically changed the look of the car for the better

    • @thatarftrooper9206

i mean, there are plenty of these cars in white with silver rims, and considering lego has already made another version of this car with white rims, its the most they could've of done to make it look different to the other countach considering that lamborghini themselves asked lego to make this countach in white. i personally think it looks good, but i see how the white looks good too.

I just bought it this morning at my local Lego store and I finished it a half hour ago. I don't say this often but building this was a sublime feeling. Always loved this car and I always seek out good diecast toys of this car. When the 8-wide Speed Champs came out, and I heard it released early at my Fred Meyers chain of grocery stores before Target or Walmart, I spent a day going to like 10 of them looking for it and I managed to score it. Out of all the Icons/18+ cars I've built, this one has to be my favorite. I feel it doesn't have nearly the same crazy building techniques like the Porsche or the most complex builds, but MAN the way it lands the shaping by using those claws and making hinges is genius. Fantastic job by Lego for sure!

Great review Jang! Those mold marks on tiles at 8:07 make me ask, thoughts on the current quality of LEGO pieces and where it's heading? some reddit posts have gone viral recently showing the injection marks on those 1x1 tile clips in particular that deform the plastic even on the "top", and another post showed how easily bricks in Barud Dur have mashed corners. I've noticed bricks in Rivendell I got recently are also easily have mashed corners as well.

  • @jonasfermefors

The wheels look a bit small but I realized when I looked at the real thing that it's just that the rims are a bit too small but the total diameter is fine.. which is all I could ask for. The fact that the rims are so close to the originals is really nice. If I'm really nitpicking I would have wanted the steering wheel to be angled up.
    Overall it's a great model.

There's one thing that makes me like the smaller Speed Champions model a lot more than the larger model. On the large model, there are several very large white surfaces on which you can clearly see that they are made of a lot of bricks. I understand that this is just how it goes with LEGO, but I think that on large smooth bright surfaces the gaps are particularly not good looking. The smaller model has a lot more surfaces that can be made of just a single piece, and on the smaller scale the gaps between bricks just don't stand out as much as on the larger model. The smaller model therefore looks much cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing to me.

This doesn't normally bother me but I feel like it's more noticeable with this one. I don't know if it's because it's all white or maybe Lego is slacking with their parts and allowing smaller gaps in between them

Great review as always Jang, your calming, soothing voice makes everything else melt away, that being my hate for the proportions.... yes the window is wrong, the rear lights are too big, the main front slope of the car doesn't continue at a straight line from the front bumper (very important!), but if the build experience was great that is important too. I am torn about this set, they nearly nailed it. I will wait to see what the MOC'ers come up with, and maybe for a price decrease, until I am in on this set. The proportions are *so* important for this iconic vehicle that I can't let Lego have a pass on this, and I respect the designers that put so much work into it, but I feel that they need to introduce yet even more slopes and curved pieces to the Lego elements to really do this vehicle the proper justice it deserves.

    • @JANGsLEGOreviews
      @JANGsLEGOreviews  2 месяца назад +6

The issue folks harp on with the front end is very noticeable when the car is viewed from the ground level from the side, so if you display it at eye level or above it'll definitely bug you. With my eyes just 10" above the ground level, though, the issue completely fades away and I see the same mild bump that's there on each side the real car as the fenders transition to the doors and there's a full-on *downward* curve to the shoulders (again, on the real car). You can see better the lines the LEGO designer worked so hard to capture in a picture like this image.cnbcfm.com/api/v1/image/102289696-car.jpg

I'm not one bit bothered by the window size. What IS bothering me tho are those rear double tyres. I just can't force myself to accept it. I know it's lego, and that modularity is at the core their design philosophy, but I so wish they made a new wheel mold for it, because I believe the already have that tyre width available from the Tumbler set.

Anyone feel like the gaps between pieces are more noticeable on the side of the car. Not where the door opens but on the door and the body of the car itself. I never really noticed it before but it stands out more to me with this one. Not sure if that's because it's white or some other reason. Also I'm glad to hear Jang calling out the Porsche fender piece. I felt like that one was way too specialised when I was making that set.
Jang says there's no real competitor for Lego with these cars but I really hope he reviews some of the Cobi or CaDA car sets that are around the Lego Icons size. Like the Cobi Maserati, Citroen or Skoda cars or the CaDA Mazda

It looks like the steering wheel is below the seat bottom. I’ve heard that the driving position for a Countach is a bit goofy with a very narrow pedal box that angles to one side, but having to have your hands reach out and down between your legs to get to the steering wheel seems a rather odd choice here. I’d have to try to fix that…and I can’t imagine it would be too hard, either.

While I agree the design team did well, the overall car shape looks too chonky in the middle and back - the front slope isn’t right because of the middle and back being too similar to other Lego car builds, in my opinion.
The Delorean had a similar issue with lack of sleekness, but that one worked a little bit better overall, perhaps because of the front end shaping being closer to the actual car (from first glance or even just memories from the three films… it also has other details like the plutonium reactor at the back end to pull your eye away from the lack of sleekness…)
In short, this new countach model is missing the necessary sleekness that has made it my favorite car design of all time.
Sure, the price is quite difficult to handle, but personally I’m disappointed in that lack of sleekness, more than the two side window openings making the front window smaller/different (while I agree on that detail too).
As always, thank you for the insights and review Jang. Take care!

Mould King also often steals designs from LEGO fans. The Countach is thankfully made with permission from the LEGO fan designer Firas who released it on Rebrickable years ago, but I will not support a company that has grown so much of its business on theft until it proves it has fully changed its ways and turned legitimate. They do at least use Gobricks, which are usually just slightly below LEGO quality due to mold marks & surface scuffing from handling, but more frequently surpassing LEGO in plastic quality & color.

11:10 if mocs can do the tail lights just fine with normal pieces then Lego themselves should have been able to do it. I bought this just like I do all cool Lego cars but honestly they are opening the door to the rise of Chinese brands with the way they just push out sloppy junk for premium prices. It's bad enough with the F1 cars and all the cost cutting they do there, but here they not only could not be bothered to spend an extra 1 cent on correct tyres but they cant even match the shape of what people in their spare time achieve with random bits.

12:40 Mould King 10045 for almost half the price. And I heard it uses only parts also in the Lego 10295. So if you already have the Lego Porsche you could build a Countach out of that, that arguably even looks a bit closer to the original. The window line definitely comes a lot closer even with that slight dip. Also looks a bit less.... like a caricature? Lego kind of exaggerated the iconic elements of this vehicle for me. The rear lights are too big, the bulges of the front wheels in the hood are way overemphasized. It's really kind of like a caricature of a celebrity with too big head and everything.
Anyway there is LOADS OF COMPETITION for Lego these days. Most people just don't know about it.

Right that sounds great, but what you're missing is that Mould King frequently steals designs from LEGO MOC makers on Rebrickable who receive no credit and no compensation for their commercial exploitation of his work. This happened previously to the designer of the very (unlicensed) Countach you're referring to, though I don't know if they finally caved to public pressure and contacted him before copying this specific model (his name is on the box on this one, not others before). Thus yes, we consumers can get a nice looking car for less a lot less than the LEGO version, but then we're also supporting theft and greed of a shady company that regularly rips off talented fans who do the actual work. They also cut costs by conveniently not getting any license from the IP holders (compared to LEGO which has the holographic Lamborghini authenticity mark on the box and official prints for all decorations vs. nonsense on stickers for Mould King). That's very frequently the rub with the shady off-brands. It's not like with Cobi, Mega, Pantasy, etc., which are among LEGO alternatives that consistently do all of design work legitimately and also legally acquire licenses for branded products.

I don't understand why this small scale... far too expensive for this small. Should have been at least 10th scale if not 8th

This is one of my all time favorite car. But that front end/hood is just so
Off to me. Almost ruins it all

Great Review! This is definitely a beautiful Set but I’m not buying it! I’m already happy with my Speed Champions Countach Set!

I kind of wish they would have made a proper model looking somehow like the real thing. Just look at photos. Sorry to say, this is just bad. And the Mustang, which was way better, was 130 and they pushed it up, for no reason, to 170. And the twin tyres … Excuse me, for 180 I get a car with twin tyres. NO

Nice double tyres on a sports car. At the same time they don't want to give us double tyres on the trucks where they should be.... smh

Does anybody know how this car scales against the lego creator Ferarri F40 10248 set?

This one and I believe all of the cars since 2016 are built to a larger scale. Unfortunately the change happened immediately after the F40. They need to do an updated one, like they have in the Speed Champions line.

This is one of the most bad Lego sets ever. Lego can’t produce anything cheaper designed than this. Unbelievable.
