You dont even have to be his fan to know his the pioneer of top traffic. Lay only gain an upperhand bc of what happened to wyf and ztao.
You intl fans rlly in a bubble. Whenever its cn entertainment, you always assume ppl popular in intl community is the top in China, even tho they can only connect as up and coming. I still remember the shock when a international cdrama fan recated in shock when I told them Cheng Yi is 2nd only to xz. Well just bc international viewers dont care for him doesnt mean hes not well loved in China. These 2 groups love VERY different things. Take otome game Love and Deepspace for example. Zayne is most popular in global players and Rafayel is least, in China its the totally opposite. Rafayel is most popular by a landslide while Zayne is at the bottom of the food chain.

The members are pursuing their own solo careers to find success in their own way. They want to make a comeback but they couldn’t as their group isn’t as successful as their own solo careers. This is why YueHua never really cared for UNIQ’s group activities. So no one left the group but pursuing their solo careers.

Lay’s loyalty to EXO isn’t talked about enough. He literally had to give a huge chunk(40% is Lay’s salary and 60% goes to SM if im not mistaken) of his profit from his hard work in China to SM entertainment since 2017 until his 10-year contract ended with them recently even though he was banned to do group activities with his members(he doesn’t get paid for group activities w/o him) and the other exo members were banned in promoting with him as a group in China as well. But he didn’t want to leave exo, could have terminated and filed a case with SM like the other chinese members did but he stuck to his word of not leaving exo and remained loyal even if he got the short end of the stick.
    So timeline was
2012-2022: exo members’ 10-year contract (minus enlistment years for korean members)
2015: SM sets up lay’s independent studio in china to start his solo career in china whilst in exo
2016: launching of solo careers of lay in china and exo-cbx in kr (other members in the ff years, 2019 for exo-sc, chen, baekhyun, 2020 for kai, suho, 2021 for D.O., 2022 for xiumin, 2024 for chanyeol etc.)
2017-2024: height of political tension of china-south korea up until 2024 when the ban was starting to be lifted so he had to drop all his korean promotions from here onwards (it’s why Lay FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS was ONLY able to promote as an artist again for his solo in korean music shows this 2024😭)
SM had set up an independent studio in china for Lay back in 2015 under SM entertainment as the first member to launch his solo career but SM gets this huge percentage of the revenues and they while they gave him assistance to establish it, a big motive for SM was that they were scared that lay may leave SM AS WELL, following the 3 chinese members who left in 2014-2015 and lose EXO’s momentum and huge fanbase in china. They did that so lay can have the creative freedom for his solo music in china while staying with SM and they couldn’t afford to lose the chinese revenues (since we know celebs there earn a TON more than korea). Their other motive ofc was that lay will earn them money if he simultaneously works as exo + release solo music. So in the beginning, they wanted to use the money he will earn in china.
Chen: “Lay hyung always tried his best to do everything with us while going back and forth to china. He must have been under a lot of stress that we didn’t know but he never showed it to us. He always thinks about EXO amidst his busy schedules. I am always thankful towards Lay hyung who wants to do and tries to do everything with us.”
Within 2015-2017, Lay continued to gain popularity in China even becoming an important public figure as a chinese youth ambassador for their country. The backlash would be too much for him and exo if they interacted/promoted under the political tensions bec he had more responsibility to china unlike other chinese idols of SM who were allowed by SM to promote with their groups, bec again, he was a youth ambassador. Sadly, SM barely supported him 2017 onwards, he had to produce his songs, activities, music videos, movie, tv, music promotions in china mostly with just his own effort and team (he even did the Lit MV using his personal money just because he wanted the best quality for it)-all credits basically belong to him yet, since he was technically under SM’s contract, SM earned the same huge percentage of his revenues. That man barely sleeps because he’s always composing and working and SM just gets so much of those earnings😥
It’s a pity he was never able to join promotions again with exo since his contract ended 2 years before the ban was lifted😢 a lot of people might not know but all of them(exo 9) are so private too so we would only know that they’ve met up and hung out whenever they’re generous enough to share it by casually mentioning it in interviews that they did. For the occasions that lay would fly to korea in his personal time. Lay even flew out to korea to see kyungsoo off for his military enlistment and ran to the airport bec he almost missed his flight back to china and that’s one rare photo we have of almost all the members together during his inactive years. sehun once posted a selca of him and lay together but he also ended up taking it down because while there are a lot of fans who still see exo as 9 members with lay, there are a lot of extreme fans that have already been divided by the hiatus… lay’s fans in china have become solid during his hiatus from exo and don’t have any attachments to him being an exo member nor do they want to acknowledge that he is, they want him as just zhang yixing of china while it’s vice versa for a lot of korean fans that only support exo with only korean members(supporters of exo 8, exo7, exo6, exo 5🤪 removing whoever they hate) so a lot of those toxic fans’ backlash got sehun to take down his post. But they hung out in private or remained in touch virtually. It was nice to see lay performing and holding a concert in korea for the first time this year and seeing some of the members attend🤍 The only time he got to appear with exo was once in 2018 by singing some lines of songs in the Tempo album and a cameo in the music video(he wasn’t allowed to do promotions though) and another surprise cameo in the MV for Don’t Fight the Feeling because it was a special album gift to their fans for their 9th anniversary in 2021. They all didn’t promote that one though.
His 10-year contract finally ended in 2022 and he penned this handwritten note:
“Ten years of growth. Thank you all. Thank you to my Exo brothers for your company and encouragement.
Thanks to my colleagues at SM for witnessing every step of my growth and achievement.
Thank you to all of my fans for your unconditional love and support.
It’s time to say goodbye as an employee of SM.
It’s also my new beginning as a 30-year-old.
But I will always be the Lay when my members need me.
I’m your family member in China, Zhang Yixing.
    Love you forever~

Not only him, but other chinese idols are also kinda of forced to promote in china in order to work in korea as they please. Once they start to get some recognition they have to come back at least once a year to give some kind of payback(?) to the country, and I guess also to "make sure" that they're still close to their roots and following the ideals or behaviours that their government deems important. Didn't they issue a statement some time ago saying that male idols shouldn't have brightly-colored hair??? And that guys should be more " mainly " when promoting??? honestly just pure 💩 , sụcks that the idols are not in a position to refuse them... really inconvenient and unfair to them. At least they gain a lot from these visits and get to keep their fans plus market.

Agreeing with the last reply because scandals in China can still lead to comebacks. Fan Bingbing has been seen out and about a lot more recently despite the issue with tax evasion; Xiao Zhan is still getting brand deals despite the ship and fan wars leading to some trying to boycott him; and most impressively, Zhang Zhehan is back in the industry by making music.
Why is Zhang Zhehan’s so impressive?
Because his controversy involved him potentially posing in front of a Japanese shrine that celebrated Japanese war criminals, which would obviously be very very bad in a country like China since China was a victim of Imperial Japan.
But Zhang Zhehan insisted he loves China and now things have died down and, as I mentioned, he’s still releasing music.

I don’t know exactly how the K-pop ban is now but Korean idols are now allowed to attend fansigns and such events in China. For example, Newjeans, TXT, ZB1, and other groups have all gone to Beijing or Shanghai or elsewhere for fansigns. Additionally, I’ve seen actresses like Jun Jihyun attend brand events in Shanghai. K-pop albums and merch are also very much allowed to be sold in official retailers in China and you will sometimes see Korean idols on magazine covers, though I have not seen one endorsing brands yet. It’s also worth noting the ban is circumvented through concerts in special administrative areas like Macao and Hong Kong where majority concert goers are mainland Chinese.
Also I’d like to add another reason Chinese K-pop idols pursue a career in China in the end is the relentless Sinophobia in SK that limits them from growing fans and being seen in the public eye. Some are also paid very unfairly compared to Korean group mates. It just makes sense and I feel like it’s unfair for some of the comments to express that it’s all because they’re chasing the bag rather than actually being a minority in another country

Back then there were laws that stated that foreign artists could only promote in few tv channels and have a limited number of tv appearances. This was the way Korea had to protect their own music industry. China has even more strict laws regarding foreigners promoting or making business in china. China banned all korean artists to promote there so chinese are kinda forced to consume Chinese entertainment.
As for Korea, when Hangeng joined super junior, the law didn't predict a foreign member part of korean group. In order to do not penalties his company made him wear a mask so he could still perform with the group without 'appearing'. After Hangeng issue Korea changed law so now you can see all foreign artists freely promoting with their groups.

Furthermore Kpop idols in Korea were known to be psychologically abused by their Agent and Korea entertainment industry are notorious for being brutal. Look at their yearly cosmetic surgery & suicide rates. Sadly, these idols were unprotected by their government.
Whereas, China entertainment industry are monitored by guidelines & laws, and the entertainers, artist are protected by such guidelines, laws & moral rules set by the government.
They all know the consequences of any immoral conduct.

China population is over 1 BILLION. Korea is only about 51 MILLIONS. China's entertainment industry doesn't need Japan, US, Brazil and Southeast Asia market to thrive. South Korea entertainment would have very small market if it wasn't a global phenomenon. I get why Chinese KPop idols go back home, why bother travel the world when your own country gives you all the wealth you'll ever needed + you'll get to be with your friends and family.

So what happens if the kpop group gets back together, like what we hope happens with Seventeen? Jun and Minghao would, obviously more than likely go back to China, but what if - after all mandatory service is completed - the groups get back together? (Oh, and Lay's was not because of disbanding as it feels this video may have given. His contract ended. Yes...I realise it's a short, so...)

    • @IceMaidenxx3
      @IceMaidenxx3 3 месяца назад +4

Surely, it would then depend on: who has remained with their original agency, agency negotiations around the group IP & scheduling, and what kind of comeback they want to achieve 🤔?
Seventeen's case it just seems like as long as the group remain on good terms, then the Chinese members will continue to work around the enlisting schedule while still promoting in both countries.
Often the reason a lot of Chinese idols end up not promoting in South Korea anymore is usually disbandment and/or group member issues.
Also, sometimes they are just not that well known in South Korea without the group's wider name (Chinese idols often aren't promoted or sent on shows for the wider South Korean public to get to know them) so it makes more sense financially and for their careers to promote in China.

Jun & Hao are active in Chinese industry along with being k-pop idols in Korea.. They participated/were regular members in many variety shows & Jun is pursuing his acting career (in Cdramas) 👍 so it's all smooth with SVT.. no concerns there 🧿 until seventy (& beyond) SVT will be SVT 💎

the thing is,after a certain point, all groups will slow down a bit when members start focusing on their own careers.they cant always be all about the group, they have their own ambitions too.when svt reaches that point,i think jun and the8 will focus more in c ent

    • @scorchedbymagnificence

As far I know and has been stated by the agency, I believe the members of Seventeen that aren't yet needing to enlist/don't have to are going to continue as Seventeen. Since they have more members than other groups and members from both China and America, as well as Scoups who will not be enlisting, I think they intend to perform and promote with the members that aren't serving. I can imagine the members will have more solo works potentially as well though and I know Jun is acting in China right now, but only until early next year, then he will return. I'm wondering actually if Jun is taking this acting opportunity in part because he may have to be more present in the group in the coming future but I'm not sure.

    • @annabelle215
      @annabelle215 3 месяца назад +5

Wang Yibo and EXO former Chinese member are different from Seventeen's Chinese members. SVT's bonding, their brotherhood is so strong. Therefore, Jun & Minghao always try to attend group activities even they've to fly a lot or having a very busy schedule. They priority the group most, recently Minghao was cast in youth periplous but because of group schedule, album promotion, going seventeen filming he didn't able to film some episodes in that show. As for Jun it's the same he have been flying China to Korea frequently to attend group activities. Seventeen promotes themselves in mainland China ( recently went Beijing for offline fan meeting )
Nevertheless we don't know what future holds. Let's hope we'll able to see them together for a long time.

Chinese entertainment have been around quite longer and actually bigger than korean. I remember back in the 80-90s where chinese movies, dramas, musics are so popular whereas korean was nowhere to be seen.
Korean entertainment raised to prominent in late 2000s.
Also, when a born chinese actor/actress go abroad they will always return to china in the end. Because of how they citizenship work. They will always have double citizenship. The chinese will never let their citizens go. That is also why, you can never extradite a chinese criminal when he return to their homeland after they committed crimes outside of their country.
