Fantastically high quality footage for the era! Very crisp and bright, excellent sound.
That huge NSE cobbler set looked quite impressive! Though presumably didn't last much longer after this footage - I'm sure it was all 321s by mid 1990 (?).
Loving all those mixed Mk1/2/3 rakes in IC livery - The few Mk3s still running today remind you what wonderfully smooth and comfortable trains these were....dated in appearence now of course but still a pleasant way to travel as they were all those years ago. Miss the 86s too, although they certainly had a good long career!

The good old days of trains in an attractive livery hauled by stylish and powerful locomotives.

Very good. Miss the 86s. Commuted behind them (sometimes) for a while on "The Master Cutler" out of Euston in the early 80s. Then Liverpool Street to Colchester with Anglia 2000-2003.

Great video. Yes the NSE Mk1s were used on the peak services to Northampton, often termed as "The Master Cobbler"

Fantastic video, thanks. Seems hard to believe these days how bad train headlights used to be.

Some seriously impressive consists there. Believe the load 13 mark 1 set is one of the 'cobbler' trains to Northampton. Am sure there was also a daily service to Aberystwyth that was formed of Mk1 carriages up to around 1990. Don't think this was actually run by Intercity though.

I think you mean the summer Saturday services. There were 2 or 3 each Saturday I recall, the electric was intiially replaced by pairs of 25s after Birmingham but this was changed over to 37s from the mid 80s
