Georgia Northeastern: Twilight of the 567s

  • A Georgia Northeastern grain train heads north in October 2016, the roads 567 fleet was on short time as new Patriot Rail GP38s would arrive by the end of the year to displace the entire fleet. Today these big consists of matching GNRR red and silver units are just a memory.

      I believe atleast 1 went to become a grain elevator switcher near St. Louis.

    They need something new if it takes 5 units to pull 33 cars.

      Considering how steep the grades are on this line the locos are performing just fine. But since this video was taken all but the two newest ones in this consist have been retired and replaced. Now probably takes 4 to pull the grade.

    OMG, is the terrain that steep in North Georgia , Do they really need so many units to pull such short trains up there ?

      Yes, these trains are very heavy (loaded grain) and there are grades up to 2.5% if I remember right. The line was very cheaply built so did not employ many cuttings or fills to reduce grades.
