  • World of Warcraft Battle For Azeroth is right in at the start of the new 8.1 patch Tides of Vengeance and has 8.2 to look forward to with the Rise of Azshara, Nazjatar, Mechagon and the junker gnomes. But what about after that? If the next expansion fits the same pattern as Wrath of the Lich King, Mists of Pandaria and Legion then 9.0 will be giving us a new playable hero class. And we know what it is. join us for a special Taliesin Talks as we reveal that not only will there be a new class after Bfa, not only will it be Tinker, not only are new allied races being introduced that can play as Tinker, but it's already in the game and Blizzard are testing it as we speak. Then we have some fun designing mech suits and imagining we are Mekkatorque or Gallywix.

lets go back to mimiron and be reminded that he was the only guardian that was not corrupted by yogg saron becuz he is mechanical.
therefore, tinkers and machines are the ultimate forms to combat against old gods and void becuz they are resistant to the corruption.

They'll announce the Tinker class with the next Xpac but you'll have to wait about 6-8 months after launch for them to be added. You'll then have to unlock 2 pages of achievements and get Exalted rep with 20 factions. You'll only be able to gain 10 rep per faction per day, but fear not, there will be a weekly mission that allows you to complete a quest chain offering a reward chest with a 5% chance to drop a 25 rep boost for a random faction. Some assembly may be required. Batteries not included*

I posted this somewhere else but it didn’t get much traction:
Gazlow from Heroes of the storm would be an excellent ‘framework’ for what a tinker MAY be able to do. The ‘dps class’ could set up turrets that can be ‘scrapped’ for parts that equal to mana regeneration or some other form of resource.
The tank class could be very interesting. I like the idea of them using Mech suits. Maybe they could use ‘heat’ as a resource that has to be managed like fury for demon hunters, or energy/combo points for rouges.
I also like the idea of a “support” spec that summons different robots like Shamans can summon totems and Demo Locks summon demons. There could be like a bot that you can have follow around the tank and periodically give extra armor/shielding, mini flying drones could go around and heal individual raid/party members, and a little roomba/vacuum bot for removing harmful DOTs and AOEs? Maybe another bot that can grant things like a bubble, stealth, slow fall, etc.

I think so too. First thing I thought about when I saw the Goblin team in the Island Expetition.
A tinker tank is in a literal tank(mech really). Shoots fire, has a absorb shield as active mitigation. Maybe throws a spinning chainsaw arm at a random location to do damage and slow enemies. Maybe when he takes too much damage, instead of dying, the mech is the one that dies. He can then resummon the mech and continue tanking. It's a cheat death ability. Has a CD while in combat, but can be resummoned out of combat when ever.
A tinker dps uses turrets, laser beams, missiles, and exploding bots to do damage. It's a caster, and instead of mana it has heat. And instead of using resources, it manages the heat. Shoot guns to dissipate the heat, use special abilities that increase heat.
A tinker healer uses bots to heal and shield others. The bots resupply at a steady rate, affected by haste. The Tinker can sacrifice mana to resupply new bots faster and heal more if needed.
    This writes its self.

How do Tinkers fit in an Old God xpac? Fairly easy, I have to say. Let's all remember that, below the surface of the planet, there's a lot (and I mean, A LOT) of machines that the Titans made to nurture the World Soul and give shape to the planet. If the Old Gods unleash upon the world, we would need people who could repair and restart all those devices and machines to help Azeroth to fight againts the Void. Also, as pointed already, machines are pretty resistent to corruption, and with this new power source called Azerite for the robots, I can see it viable and coherent.

While I don't think it is 100% confirmed, it would make perfect sense for a Tinker to be a new class in a Black Empire expansion: The first and main force that clashed with the Old Gods are the titan-forged. The titan-forged were inorganic, almost robot-like beings (specially in the case of mechagnomes!) until the Old Gods' corruption turned them into flesh. The greatest Tinker in WoW lore, Mimiron, is a titan-forged as well! and built the strongest Firearm: Titanstrike. It'd make perfect sense for the engineers of both Horde and Alliance pick up on some of the Titan's technology to face the Black Empire, especially now using Azerite as fuel/ammo.
Also: your lack of Draenei Tinker disturbs me. It's not like they built proper spaceships and mechsuits in Legion right?

I don't personally see Vulpera being able to be Tinkers. Yeah they have been shown to be resourceful and creative with the tools they have but they have never been shown to utilise or have an interest in technology. You could argue that the Goblins/Gnomes would teach them but I don't see it fitting personally. They are a nomadic, simplistic, almost shamanistic people. I could be wrong but it isn't a fit for me.
Also, in regards to the mech, I could see each race having their own unique mech rather than being able to customise your own. Maghar could have something Iron Horde in nature, Light Forged Draenei could have a Warframe, Undead could having something green and Blight fuelled.

    • @KarakTo
      @KarakTo 5 лет назад +2

I think Vulpera will have access to rogue, warrior, hunter, and shaman. Rogue makes sense because they're fox people, and they are small. Easy to sneak around with their physical characteristics. Shaman makes sense because, like you said, they are nomadic, simplistic, almost shamanistic people. Plus, they mess around with totems a lot. Warrior and hunter... Blizz is giving everyone warrior and hunter. Plus, Nisha is clearly a warrior. They could also potentially be priests, maybe even paladins akin to the Tauren Sunwalkers. Horde is definitely going to have another paladin race, because Blizz gave Alliance two new shaman races, while Horde only got one new paladin race. I could also see mages, because the Vulpera are obviously very intelligent. Warlocks are highly unlikely, the Vulpera don't seem to have anything that would support them being warlocks, and as for monks, I just don't see it. But they will have at least five classes available. None of the races so far have less than five. My guess is rogue, warrior, hunter, shaman, and either priest or mage for sure. All the Allied races so far have had each armor type. Then, they might have paladins (Somehow) or monks.

I'll just post something I've said two years ago on a Bellular video:
Thinker is currently the class that is most likely to be added in the game. It could be a very versatile ranged DPS/Support class, with superior mobility provided by a Jetpack, AoE abilities that does damage or increase it: Artillery barrage/Napalm (like Uduar vehicles). CC like Miss Fortune or Ziggs from LoL, stun bomb & damage mitigation shield like we used in Legion, Hologram and smoke screen to confuse mobs, turrets and a freaking *Mech suit* with a 5 min CD on it!
Split that in 2 or 3 specs that offer different approaches and philosophies (Gnome/Gobelin or Mayhem/Support/Field Medic).
All of these things had already been portrayed in the game by NPCs, that's also why Engineering was heavily nerfed to the ground in PvE/PvP and was never developed more because it had too much potential and many times a significant impact on the game, like a players class would. Like the Saronite Bombs on Lich King platform back in the days and Grenade use in PvP vanilla. With a class similar to what I described, we wouldn't get a very different game but an overall new dynamic gameplay and mechanics to face, only this time with a class better suited for it instead of additional button abilities. So gathering some orbs/green portals to help the healers or going on a treadmill to destroy bombs would be fun to do with a Thinker.
As for how to introduce this class, we have always been pushing Azerotian technology. From reverse engineering things like Sulfuron hammer to Titansteel & Animus Golem. In the last 5 years in game time our technology made huge leaps. If we take the fight to others Legion controled worlds or adventure ourselves in the Ocean depths of Azeroth, we will need go give everything and be resourceful and versatile. Honestly I don't see anything that represent Azeroth's might better than our sheer imagination and drive to improve against great odds than the Thinker.
If after 12 years of playing this game, I can come up with theses ideas without much reflection I'm certainly not the only one who did. You can be sure Blizzard did too and are probably already working on that.

@@soulsreaper7145 I do. it was not the titans that created our paladins in our azeroth… ofc there creations helped guide us to the following of the light but it was humans that created the first known "paladins" on our planet which where an order of preists that came together to fight off the horde and counter the first "Death knights" they threw at the alliance. It was necromancy that created the Death knights so both preists and necromancers created there heavly built melee versions of themselves. Undead in lore wise are highly resistant to the will of the void due to there soul between both the world of the living and the shadow realm/after life! A few more element related to tinker in BFA :
    - On Horde side, we have a tinker follower for the war campaign : Hobbart Grappelhammer. If you look at its class icon on the mission tab, it's a tinker
    - Again n Horde side, in Darkshore warfront, we can play as a tinker unit
    - Basically, robots tends to be immune to mental effect and tinkering could present as a solution against the black empire. Tinker could use special helmet making them immune to old gods whispering or just be immune when they are in their mech

  • @peternordgren

    Basic gameplay idea:
Baseline skills are stuff your character does on their own, stuff their mech does, and stuff pets like turrets and drones do. Everyone gets some basic stuff from all categories. Shoot gun, smash things with mech melee bits, deploy healing turret. Best not to duplicate shaman totems.
Talents are more or less one column personal equipment and cybernetics, one column mech suit, one column pets. You could have some options similar to Lone Wolf, where you lose the mech suit, or you could turn it into a pet, or a mount. Still, you only get so many talents.
Specs could provide different baseline abilities, or you could just go with one spec and use the spec interface for different loadouts. With just one spec you might need some menus like hunter and warlock pets.
Ideally all this would have cosmetic effects on your character, their mech suit and pets. You too can have a chainsaw mounted through your face like that one guy in Rogue Trader!

As people have been saying before, the tinker and that whole Mechagon theme fits beautifully for the likely Old Gods 9.0 expac. Essentially, you have to ask why Bliz would just toss in a second zone (Mechagon) in 8.2 alongside Nazjatar? Like, Naz makes so much sense lore-wise and has been built up perfectly, but a mecha-gnome zone? What? WELL LEMME TELL YA, IT'S PERFECT. Nazjatar is happening because it's part of the *current* threat, but Mechagon is going to serve as the jumping-off point for fighting the Old Gods in the future. This works perfectly along the theme of flesh and magic being corruptible - unlike mech's. The mechagnomes are literally our last hope, and they (along with our shiny new tinker class) are going to save us from the Old Gods. If you had pitched this to me a year ago I would have laughed in your face, but now I'm hella hyped for it.

As you mentioned foreshadowing, I uttered the word "Azerite". This whole expansion has been pointing out that Azerite allows mechs to be smaller and more effective. That's been a big point of this whole expac, that now, there's a new fuel which allows mechs to be far stronger, faster, meaner, and more compact. If there were any foreshadowing that really convinced me of the possiblity, it was the fact that they've been constantly teasing Azerite being the fuel of the future when it comes to war machines. If you think of a lore reason to explain the late entrance to the game of Tinkers, one simple one would be that Mechs were really expensive and difficult to operate, but now that fuel is literally bursting out of the ground, the Horde and Alliance have been dedicating lots of extra resources to build the best stuff possible. With the new democratization of the fuel and the ability for the mechs to be so common and powerful, they could turn physically weak allies like Gnomes and Goblins into beefed-up warriors with mech suits and new weaponry. I would assume the teasing will continue in Mechagon, with the introduction of cyborganic allies. The interfacing between a cyborganic ally and their mech would be seamless. I would also assume the mech suit would operate similarly to the Worgen form. Outside of combat they could wear normal Tmog stuff, but in combat, they'd summon their mech and start bashing and smashing away.

Eh, Undead, Draenei/Lightforged and Belfs could reasonably make sense for a machinist class alongside the obvious Gnomes, Dwarves and Goblins. Maybe even Maghar if you think about the iron hordes stuff. Undead could lean into the healer spec with its tanks of green goo and apothecary vibe and the Draenei and Belfs showcase a bunch of tech proficiency in BC. I'd see "Tinker" being expanded into a general engineering class without the bias towards goblins and gnomes that'd hinder it otherwise.

If you want a reason: Why do they get focus in 9.0? I am going to assume that in 8.3/9.0 that N'zoth will win. If the old god is wise enough, he will constrict the ley lines, take away our main power sources to snuff out opposition. Right now likely this already is happening with the king of diamond made a pawn and the Azerite, pure leyline stuff. So, while probably the other classes will have to draw directly on Azeroth herself from this point on as an underground resistance, the mechs do not. They can function, protect and serve unhindered. But, considering who currently made them, this is were the ego of the Old Gods can likely be their downfall. They will underestimate the goblins, gnomes, vulpera etc. "Just toys!" Well it will be a toy shooting nukes in your wee big eyeballs.

Ulduar. A whole kinda steampunk city is infected by an old god during wrath. I don't know, I don't think it's hard to imagine how the tinker class could fit into that Old God theme, especially as Old Gods tend to infest all kinds of dungeons and caves and creations of the titans, to all of which the Gnomes have a good connection to.
(In addition tinkers aren't really new, as you pointed out. They've been there since the beginning. They were just not playable.)
    -
In terms of armor, there's nothing speaking against the tinker wearing heavy armor. Actually it could be quite useful, as light armor types may not be sturdy enough. We're talking about a tinker so someone that may needs some kind of protective suit. Plate armor may be too heavy and bulky for the tinkerers work, and, as said, the light armor not heavy and bulky enough, which leaves the heavy armor, or mail.

Healing spec could very much be like the scoundrel/Agent class in SWTOR, shooting darts and attaching gadgets to heal. DPS spec would work like the engineer in wildstar (RIP), mecha-companion with its own set of abilities that would play very much like a BM hunter, but with the added bonus of setting up turrets. Tanking spec, I would LOVE to see a prioritized mech suit while in the spec, but I don't think that's what blizz would want you to be in the whole time(can't have TOO much fun). Most likely would be on a CD and work much like metamorphosis for demon hunter.

Tinkerers' can easily be explained as an Achilles Heel of an Old One. Seriously, they are known as overwhelmingly powerful in all sorts of majiks whether Arcane, Fell, Death, Divine, Void, or Life… Therefore what can easily be shown as something they never expected…?… Tinkerers using Azerite powered engineered devices to unleash Azerothien hell on N'Zoth.
Every new class has always been written in their expansion as the counter to all the problems of that expansion. Death Knights gave Horde and Alliance an uber meat shield and an inside track to break into IceCrown Citadel. Monk's were shown as the Masters of Sha. Demon Hunters was an entirely bioenginered new species built and bred to kill Demons. Thus it should be easy to see them showing a new Tinkerer hero class as the counter to the next expansions big bad, as it appears about to lay waste to the entire planet, think do I.

    World of Warcraft: Azeroth's Rebuilding™
    or
    World of Warcraft: Uprising™
An expansion where war for Azeroth's survival led to her demise. Old gods, loosed upon the world, caused pure destruction, and the population paid a heavy, bloody toll. Goblins and Gnomes, in their infinite mechanical wizardry, began by piecing one another together. Using whatever parts they could find, they began by replacing fingers and toes, then whole limbs, and eventually they turned to installing into machines the data from long-dead brains they discovered in the bodies of their own fallen. The work was feverish, and soon there were millions of these new "Mechagnomes" and "Mechagoblins". Then they turned to their Alliance and Horde brethren, to help them piece together their loved ones, until one little Gnome, a nobody, and a Goblin, the prince's nephew, almost simultaneously and seemingly-worlds away, suggested that maybe they shouldn't help their faction's dead and injured. Maybe they should, instead, assume the role of the new leader of the world with their numbers well in excess of the remaining living, combined.
Maybe it was time for the rise of the strongest races Azeroth has ever seen, the "Mechagnome" and the "Mechagoblin."

One would think that if your team isn't big enough to handle decent class balance, then you just would hire more employees. But of course, that would lower profits in the short term, wouldn't it?
Edit - I'd also like to point out that this wouldn't be such a problem if Blizz didn't completely redesign classes and reinvent the wheel every expansion rather than just tweak numbers.

      "Broken" is a relative term.
And thing is, looking through some charts, in terms of average dps the shaman, both dps shamans are somewhere in the middle. Within these numbers the highest dps is ~10% above average and the lowest dps ~10% below average.
Yes, we're not talking top dps numbers but average numbers. It makes much, much more sense. The Enhancer is ~2% above average and the elemental less then ~0.5% below average.
Seriously, the story of the broken Shaman is at this moment nothing but a mere myth. Seriously, don't trust youtubers on this, check the numbers yourself, get the average numbers and compare them.
And in all honesty a 10% difference from lowest to average or highest to average is nothing. It's actually not prove of Blizzard not doing well balancing, but the opposite (Most if not all other developers do actually a far worse job at balancing. The core problem is, that while all classes should be balanced out, each class should feel unique Why is that a problem? Perfect balance is almost only achievable by making all classes the same).
And you can't just tweak one class, a re-balance of a class means that all classes have to be looked upon.

Blizzard development team is already bitching about having 36 specs and making them unique beyond the thematic art assets is a nigh impossibility for them cause they made a change 8 years ago that haunts them to this day. They don't know what they are doing (and doing wrong) with classes... I think a new class is a bad direction to be adopting until they seriously fix the class issues and actually roadmap an expansion that doesn't revolve around them splitting the class developers in half to make gimmicks like Azerite, and revolve around solid return to class fantasy and power.

I like the idea !! I played GW2 for quite some time and my favorite class was the Engineer. They had turrets, grenades, bombs..all with cc/power/dot/heal, they had elixirs with buffs/debuffs. They used rifles, pistols and even shields. Later they got hammers and drones. Last expansion they got Holosmith spec (didn't play that exp =\), where they creat holograms of weapons (swords, rifles, hammers) fighting with light/energy/laser. I know class design is totally different with wow and gw2, but that doesn't mean they can't get some cool ideas and change to what would be better. Hope this class really comes out :).

You said the exact same things I do think too, and I really can't wait for it to happen! But in my opinion, there's even more:
Blizz already said they have problems doing an underground world due to claustrophobia, but I think they are slowly testing and introducing us to a big Dwemer-like world, starting from the Artifact Chamber, skyboxes, underwater nightmares AND... Mechagon. Mechagon is highly hinted to be undeground (you can see that from artworks and screenshots too) and that will be a huge test to see how to do it in a way that won't cause claustrophobia. PLUS, Old Gods are underwater and underground for as long as I know, or atleast it's where they come from and "sleep", and who's best at digging and building cities undeground?
Gnomes, obviously. And Dark Irons. Or Bronzebeards. Or Junker Gnomes, since they all have whole cities underground (Ironforge, Dark Iron cities, Gnomeregan, Mechagon).
So, honestly, I think they would take a huge part of the expansion and they would fit perfectly because they're used to it, and a lot of machines are needed in order to dig deeper and deeper.

Aww this kinda made me sad, because I would love tinkers so much but every piece of evidence provided has a solid counterargument that could be made against it. Especially the island expeditions... Because in the expeditions, there are many classes / specs portrayed that aren't playable and probably won't be. Not only that, even RACES, as seen by the high elf in Auric's Angels. There's an ax thrower, a mage healer, a void healer, and plenty of other unplayable or even unspecified classes / specs.
And I'm so conflicted about mechagnomes as an allied race, because I totally could see it happening... but there doesn't seem to be a model yet that could work. People throw around that picture from Blizzcon, but how on Earth are you supposed to put armor on that?? And if you did manage, all that would be left to differentiate are some goggles, if that. Just because we're going someplace mecha doesn't mean we'll be getting an allied race out of it... Like Nazjatar. Playable naga?? Probably not.
I'd so love for you to be right, but it doesn't seem at all realistic to me. For me this goes under another of your awesome predicaments that Blizz totally should've listened to, like the artifact weapon you could customize. That would've been badass. But no hate, and I could totally be wrong :)

It would tie in fairly well from a lore perspective, if the next expansion is going to be about the void and old gods, all who can would most likely want to join the fight, and as some have already mentioned mechs can't be influenced by the void or the old gods. So it would actually be a logical choice for a new class. And as you said Blizzard have been hinting a fair amount in that direction aswell. Would be interesting to see where they want to go with this.

    Lightforge Draenei - Argussian Warframe
    Goblin - Sky Golem
    Gnome - Mekkatorque's Suit
    Dwarf - New Style Suit
Goblin Allied Race? - Darkshore Goblin Suit?
Each playable race for a tinker could have their own style of suit to customize and augment new things onto. While Tinkers could have a baseline passive knowledge ability to allow a third profession which specifically would be engineering which could tie into mechanic wise for the class utilizing the explosives and other stuff to add onto the mech suits. Maybe even have Tinkers visit lore rich areas like Ulduar and or Uldir to learn titan engineering for titan style or just more powerful technology in general?

Steampunk and elder god tentacle beasties do go together quite well. Also having an allied race that is actively rejecting the curse of flesh seems like a fit for an old god expansion.
