So is Qix better on the gameboy than NES? I remember in like 1993 or 1994 there was a two pack of Qix and Solar striker where the cardboard setup was weird (like think cheap) where it was a discounted box by Nintendo that had the games in the plaatic dust protectors and I think it still had the instruction boolets. Weirdly, Renegade was made by Technos, and distributed by Taito in the states, so Double Dragon was actually its spiritual successor, while the Kunio-kun series continued down its own path and we eventually got another of the sequels, "River City Ransom" down the line on the NES.

This might seem blasphemous, but I almost prefer Power Blazer. If you haven't tried it check it out. I thought Demon Sword was kinda neat, because of all of the weird secrets, but it's one of those games that you need to play over and over to really get into all of that, and I totally understand anyone not willing to put in the time. There's actually a sequel to that called Legend of Kage 2 on the DS. Bubble Bobble has a neat trick: if you pause and press select, you can sacrifice a life to bring in the second player; I use that to get the good ending when I'm playing solo. Panic Restaurant is one of those games that just DEFINES the late NES for me; Fire & Ice does, too. I think it has something to do with the visuals.

That's half the games that were completely developed by other companies. And the Flinstones games were mostly developed by Sol Corporation; and Natsume did most of the work on the Power Blade games. Taito only developed 9 out of the 26 games they published on the NES by themselves.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - You failed the sliding tile puzzle because of the piece to the left of the base. If you look carefully, you'll see a little half-round piece. That's part of the large handle above it.

This video and series is/are great overall, and I enjoy them quite a lot. However, I was very disappointed when you called Target: Renegade a "Double Dragon ripoff", considering both game series were developed by the same company, and initially designed by Yoshihisa Kishimoto. In fact, the original Renegade predates the original Double Dragon. Really, they all came from the same people, so calling one a rip off of the other seems unfair and inaccurate.
Wrath of the black manta was one of my favourite games growing up. I did a 3rd grade presentation on where I just wrote out the NES manual for it and read it out

I never realized Demon Sword was a sequel to Legend of Kage but it seems so obvious now that I know it. Elevator Action on the Game Boy is a pretty good sequel/upgrade from the NES version and there's also Elevator Action EX for Gameboy Color which adds more characters like Returns. Kickmaster is one of those games I wish I'd have picked up before you needed to take out a loan to afford it.
This is driving me insane. In Indiana Jones in the puzzle stage there is this small element in down-left corner that just needs to be moved 2 spaces up! Aaaaargh!
Arkanoid definitely belongs in S-tier. Maybe I'm biased since I bought the game back in the day with the special controller. The only way it wasn't a 100% faithful arcade conversion was just because the arcade screen was vertical instead of horizontal. In every other aspect, it was a pixel-perfect port.
Bubble bobble is my favorite game of all time. Btw you can get the potion and reach door on single player. It's incredibly tight but doable. I manage to do it about 15 or 20 percent of the time. Managed to get good ending on a single player run by using the life steal on second controller right before popping super drunk. I absolutely love this game

Thanks for the video, for me power blade 2, panic restaurant, flinstones rescue dino hoppy, little samson and the awesome kickmaster are S clases with no doubt.
Love your videos John. Keep up the great work.
Was about 7 years old when bubble bobble was released. I played it till my fingers cramped... it has a huge nostalgia factor for me.
This makes me sad. I should have spent my toys r us money on nes games when I was a kid. 😜

Oh my god wrath of the black ninja. I remember renting that game as a kid several times and loving it. I couldn't figure what it was as I thought it was Shanobi but for NES and never found it. Time to go search this one out.
Thanks!
I love this series of videos man, especially for some of the lesser known companies.
Some one probably mentioned this already, but the cup handle needed completing on the left side. Hard to see until you can't unsee it.
This is driving me insane. In Indiana Jones in the puzzle stage there is this small element in down-left corner that just needs to be moved 2 spaces up! Aaaaargh!
Target Renegade: Billy Lee from Double Dragon gets jacked by a handful of Bret “The Hitmen” Harts.
Who knew?
What a solid list of good games. Thanks for these videos, a bunch of new ones for me!
My favorite arcade game company!. Elevator action, Bubble bobble and Rastan.
Wish we got Rastan on NES
That Indiana Jones slide puzzle , the piece at the bottom has a part of that thing at the top of it. I think it needed to be up two
Wrath of black manta the enemy he grabs looks like the Joker and Vincent Price put together.
Renegade was actually a decent NES port of the arcade game. I would give it at least a B. Enjoying the videos brotha!
Great video John, really enjoyed it having loved many of these growing up
Bubble bobble is my favorite game of all time. Btw you can get the potion and reach door on single player. It's incredibly tight but doable. I manage to do it about 15 or 20 percent of the time.
Managed to get good ending on a single player run by using the life steal on second controller right before popping super drunk.
I absolutely love this game
