You can just have a brain fart and forget where you are in a song, lose the tempo, or just forget what you're supposed to play so you freeze up... but that has no bearing on your skill level. It's just a screwup. And you also have to give him credit for bouncing back from it, not letting it show that he was mortified by it, and finishing the song like a pro. He's there for his voice anyway, not his guitar abilities.

Always defend the instrumentalist who's trying to create music! Have to say though that as a professional he should have enough experience to simply ad lib his way out -- it's not like it's a tough tune to noodle over. Anyway, hope he's over it and doing his thing!
