@WeeItsNookies That's an interesting hypothesis. Why don't you write a research proposal, secure funding, recruit a team, execute your plan and summarizes your results for submission to a peer reviewer journal. Because that's what many researchers have done and their findings suggest that discrimination is still a factor; not the only factor and not necessarily the most predictive, but certainly the only one we could and should do something about. There also needs to be further study into where and how this discrimination manifests. Dogmatism can blind you to the evidence regardless of your ideological background. As far a lawsuits go, most people who are underpaid (regardless of gender) don't know they are being underpaid, in part because of corporate culture that tries to maximize knowledge asymmetry (the employer knows all the salary information while the potential employee knows very little).
And men in general want a younger more fertile woman to have healthier children (provided she's not immature), and a mother there to raise the kids right while the men do their best to provide and support the family. if there really was a pay gap between genders where as men gets paid MORE then women, why the hell would employers not hire only women to save money for the same amount of work...
I think they need the rename the pay gap because I think it confuses alot of people into thinking that for the same job women get paid less which rarely happens but in reality its like what Joe says when mothers choose family over work it halts their career progression.
Tipping is allowed in Australia. However our wages are not dependent on Tips unlike you Americans. As a F&B attendant at a Hotel, we get paid a minimum wage of $21/hr, Cafe wages are almost the same. Any Tips we receive are generally split between all the F&B attendants. This is xoming from someone in Australia.
Joe's stats make absolutely no sense and his reasoning is why the pay gap will never be terminated. Women becoming mothers is not a reason for the pay gap because the woman is not having a child alone. Men have children too and, granted, they don't always take paternity leave, however, their focus and work ethic would never be questioned after they had a child like women are.
It does make sense. Women take more time off and are the main care givers to children so aren't working the same amount as men. It makes complete sense. Having a child and trying to maintain career equally doesn't happen generally so women take time off. You do realise if a woman has a baby and is with the father, he will likely work while she doesn't. So what you said doesn't change that women have to choose between raising a child and focusing on their careers. I don't understand what is confusing about what joe said.
There's loads of stuff employers and governments can do to help the choice between children and career be more equal between men and women. You can increase paternity leave benefits, impliment flexible working, have childcare in workplaces... Feminism! It's nice for everyone!
Yes! Finally places are evening things out by making men pay more... Next maybe we can fix the pay gap between people who work 60 hours a week and people who work 4 hours a week. 🙄 Honestly, when it comes down to it--things are pretty equal for men and women in the US--men have some advantages and women have different advantages. The real question is did they tax trans women who "benefited from being male" their whole life or would they show their hypocrisy to avoid the controversy?
I love how Joe is always a voice of reason... Even tho he has a funny persona he's a smart man. The pay gaps is only due to more woman choosing part time work and Choosing to be a mother (which should be respected). No job in modern world has different pay... There's no tab on when searching online for lower pay and yes sometimes there is prejudice.
maybe someone can explain this to me, but i don’t understand when they talk about women having to stop working to be a mother because isn’t there a father? like isn’t the father taking off as well, so they both take off the same amount of time except for maternity leave. this is how my parents always were so i am just confused. also why would you marry a man that makes you quit work to raise the child you had together, alone.
Technically a fact, there’s various mental illnesses that are specifically more prevalent depending on gender. Antisocial personality disorder(aka psychopaths) tend to be men. Borderline personality disorder tends to be more women
pay gap definitely exists, where a woman working in the same position as a man is paid less. lots of women have shared their stories but of course they fall on deaf ears, at this point i shouldnt even be surprised anymore
Yeah, the women I know who are in much higher positions in various job types either have no kids or had to tell their kids they wouldn't be at home much due to work and they rely on nannies, or they changed into a job that paid less but allowed them the time to be present in their childs's lives. The "gap" also comes from the types of jobs chosen by women and by men in general. Anyone can see the differences of job choices, so there's no denying that. The problem is that certain women don't say that part to the public because it doesn't fit their narrative, and they rely on the people who won't bother to look it up to be on their side. I just so happened to be born a woman, so I guess it's okay if I comment this instead of walking on eggshells if I were born a man.
I think it depends on how old your kid is. if your a CEO and you just had a baby sure it can be hard but you can definitely pay someone to watch ur kid and go right back to work after u just gave birth it's been done
The disparity in income between men and women in the modern day United States comes from a gender *Earnings Gap* rather than a wage gap, where men tend to take on a wider variety of jobs, which include more jobs that are dangerous or require higher certifications/training, whereas women might tend to work more lax jobs and take lesser hours. Another factor is what Joe mentioned, in which women might fall behind men on the corporate ladder when they're faced with the potential of raising a child, abandoning their climb on the ladder.
Joe's right but the root of that is people not supporting women into higher paying careers. And men not being as present in the home. In countries where BOTH parents have maternity or paternity leave, the pay gap is almost non existent. It's really about women's places in society, rather than literally getting paid less

I love to see Joe explain things, I feel so glad he brings in a different opinion/information and actually educate people in topics that aren’t very often talked about.
In America I don’t think we have a pay gape anymore. We used a while ago but not anymore, but I don’t know about Australia.
Yes. There’s also a gap because of stuff like maternity leave
Joe and the knowledge drops are theeee best!!!
It makes me happy to read more female commenters who actually looked at the statistics and understand the truth. Thank you.
how come no one mentioned pink tax ??

if there really was a pay gap between genders where as men gets paid MORE then women, why the hell would employers not hire only women to save money for the same amount of work...
Thank god that place got shut down.
This is like me making a restaurant where the girl always pays :(

Wth this guy is cool af lmao all the guests been poppin 👌🏼
Please do an episode with Dom, Steve, Joe, and Boze that would be awesome!!
It's a pay gap because men and women make different choices men and women though will be paid the same wage for the same job
Yes! Finally places are evening things out by making men pay more... Next maybe we can fix the pay gap between people who work 60 hours a week and people who work 4 hours a week. 🙄
Honestly, when it comes down to it--things are pretty equal for men and women in the US--men have some advantages and women have different advantages. The real question is did they tax trans women who "benefited from being male" their whole life or would they show their hypocrisy to avoid the controversy?
Im suprised there's a couple of Aussie news in jkn, btw I'm aussie
I love how Joe is always a voice of reason... Even tho he has a funny persona he's a smart man. The pay gaps is only due to more woman choosing part time work and Choosing to be a mother (which should be respected). No job in modern world has different pay... There's no tab on when searching online for lower pay and yes sometimes there is prejudice.
The part time job thing isn’t considered. The pay gap is calculated with only the pay for people with full time jobs
Ok how about you ask them who is paying for the date? Men usually pay more times than women. What about that gap?
you would call that free choice
@@imasha9086 Lol facts
maybe someone can explain this to me, but i don’t understand when they talk about women having to stop working to be a mother because isn’t there a father? like isn’t the father taking off as well, so they both take off the same amount of time except for maternity leave. this is how my parents always were so i am just confused. also why would you marry a man that makes you quit work to raise the child you had together, alone.
Thankful Joe has the patience to explain basic shit...
Dom cracks me up 😂😂
Psychopaths are more prevalent in men. Ouch Joe. Ouch.
'vegans' 'man tax' makes sense.
Melbourne REEKS of gentrification
Don’t mind them
The disparity in income between men and women in the modern day United States comes from a gender *Earnings Gap* rather than a wage gap, where men tend to take on a wider variety of jobs, which include more jobs that are dangerous or require higher certifications/training, whereas women might tend to work more lax jobs and take lesser hours.
Is there sales tax on the man tax?
It doesn't feel like there's a pay gap, down below for the people who aren't climbing the corporate ladder or trying to become famous.
Joe only brought up one point jn the whole pay gap debate
And i thought Cafe Gratitude was bad😂😂
Not saying what the cafe did was right, but the man tax went to Elizabeth Morgan House (which support Indigenous women and children affected by domestic violence) and not for profit.
