    About Sweet Briar Farm
    We are a small farm located in Central/Northern Michigan. We farm every inch of our 6 acres. We breed Registered Dairy Goats, Dexter Cattle, and Heritage Hogs. Clean healthy food is important to us and we like to produce the majority of our food on the farm and we grow and raise enough to sell to local customers. Producing our own food also means we forage for wild edibles such as mushrooms and tap our maple trees in the spring to make maple syrup. In 2019 we added honeybees to the farm and have had as many as 30 active hives producing honey for us.
    Our goats include Nubian goats, Mini Nubians, Fainting Goats, and Nigerian Dwarf goats.
    Our Heritage Hogs include: registered Berkshires, Tamworth, Kune Kune, and Hereford.

    Great job Kelsey. Pulling a baby in that bizarre position is TOUGH! Happy that all went well in the end. Fabulous!

    What Intense birth. I had an anxiety so I can't imagine how that was for you guys. Millie was so sweet cheering you on. As well as a confident helper. Way to go ladies!!

    OMG that was freaking amazing. I don't even think I was breathing during the first kid's birth. If I was Mama....I'd be thinking twice about having any more kids. 🤔
    And I love the Jimothy look-alike--you should name him after some old time country music guy who had a nice pompadour---I'm thinking Porter Waggoner or Conway Twitty. 😃
    Kudos to all of you!!

    Wow Maylee. You are such a tough and knowledgeable farm girl. Your parents are clearly very proud of you, just as they should be. Many adults wouldn’t be as cool under pressure as you are. No matter the path you choose in life, you’ll have the grit to do it well. Kudos.

      I’ve been milking her some once a day just because she’s got so much pressure in there. The girl is feeding triplets and put half a gallon in the milk pail. I didn’t even empty her. She is a dream.

    Glad everything turned out ok.
    Curious, since you said this same goat had another bad birth earlier with another face-first presentation... are her kids held back from breeding to keep the bad genetics out of the line? Has she been retired from breeding? Thanks for sharing, and for the helpful commentary..

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan
      @SweetBriarFarmMichigan  4 месяца назад +1

      I don’t believe there is any genetic component to how a goat will present during kidding. We have retained 2 of her Doelings one from this year and one from her first kidding. Her daughter kidded with no issues. Fawn this year had quads and had no issues.

    How far is your goat barn from the house, and what kind of baby monitor for you use?

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan
      @SweetBriarFarmMichigan  Год назад

      It’s is a cheap monitor from Walmart. It says “Delta Children” on the front of it. The barn is maybe 100ft from the house so not very far. We used our blink cameras last year but they didn’t get a very good wireless signal. We are going to get a better camera system at some point.
