    Yard is coming together nicely, Jake. Trick I learned 51 years ago as a lineman for plumbing poles. Take a crescent wrench and "hang" the bottom hole from your pinky finger. Back off the length of the pole and use the handle to sight whether the pole is straight on at least two sides. That way, it doesn't matter if the pole tapers or not or the length of the pole. Keep up the good work.

      If they both faced up you could potentially just lift the gate up off the hinges.

  • @bwillan
    @bwillan Год назад +1

    The issue is that you log post is tapered and your top lag hook is not in the same plane as the bottom one. So that gate tilts up. A little chainsaw work to cut a flat spot for the bottom lag hook would have done the job.

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  Год назад

  • @tpctrash

    I wouldn’t worry too much about how level they are right away. They will settle. Most likely tilting to the ends of the gates.
    Then you can adjust to level.

    I would agree with what you said about the trailer weight. Our government expects us to get things right but they can word things how they please without representation! Sounds like a double standard. From what I've been told 🤔 MVA and the DOT aren't on the same page and they don't work together. This needs to be fixed!!! Gosh am I happy I don't live in an area that securing a woodyard would EVER be an issue. Then again if someone/anyone actually "NEEDS" some of my firewood bad enough to steal it, they should have simply asked, and I would have given it to them. If they didn't ask, then that would be where I simply forgive them. Its firewood, not gold bullion. NOT judging you in any way at all! Do what you think you need to do. I'm simply being thankful for what I have.

    • @DudeRanchDIY

      It’s not an issue in my area at all. I have never had any theft from my roadside stand. Never had anyone poking around or anything. I came across the gates at the dump so figured “eh, it can’t hurt” plus I think they look pretty cool

    The gates are only a discouragement for honest thieves. A battery grinder or a battery impact driver and someone can be in within minutes. A guy up the road from me a bit discourages thieves by placing a stump about the size of the rock near your gate directly across his 10ft wide gate.

    • @DudeRanchDIY

    I am the last person who wants to tell you how you should run your yard. I apologize - I have done literally hundreds of miles of fence posts. For anchor posts, and/or gates, you just have to put a cross member such as an "X" and that will keep the top from moving at all. The only time we used a backhoe was to dig the corner and anchor posts. Also - sorry again, not giving advice but observations - the quickest way to remove a fence anchored by wood would be with a chainsaw. You probably live in a secure area anyway. Don't take this the wrong way, you do you
