It’s food for thought
You went way back on this one Jamal. I'm 51 years old and I remember this song from sixth grade middle school and could never get enough. Our cheerleaders did a routine to it .....
Roller Skating! I was dam near born on eight wheels! We did a thing called The Flea Hop. It was started back in the fifties or sixties to boogie woogie music. But, in the seventies and eighties, rock and roll, then later disco music turned the Flea Hop into something funky.
I remember this very fondly. My daughters as well as my sisters used to double Dutch. It was like it went away but in the hood it never did. Some schools even had double Dutch competitions. There were teams in the schools .I do believe Missy Elliott samples this also in “ Gossip Folks.”
When I was a teenager in the '80s I mowed the lawns of a neighbor every Saturday. Usually he paid cash but one time he brought me into his office to write a check. On the wall behind the desk was a gold record of Double Dutch Bus. I had to ask. Turns out he produced the song and album for Frankie.
Hearing this song takes me back to one of my earliest memories! I remember my aunt playing this song for me anytime I visited my grandmother's house!!! I think she still has it on 45!
In elementary school I was the double dutch champ! So much fun & a great workout. Us 70’s & 80’s kids we’re moving on the playground. The metal climbing play structure of death, spinning on the bars, flipping off swings etc.. and we survived!!!
When this song came out, I was in second grade. My brother and I were the only white boys on the bus. I was watching the original video and this came up in my suggestions. I was so happy. Love this song
I just finished listening to Joni Mitchell's Woodstock (I've loved her music for 50 years), then listened to this video. I never heard of this song and it couldn't have been more different than Woodstock, but i enjoyed the hell out of both. Thanks Jamel.
I remember this song well from my elementary school days. Double Dutch is harder than it looks, I couldn't even turn the ropes, let alone jump. The lyrics always struck me as funny, in that he keeps missing the bus and train, especially since Philadelphia SEPTA buses and trains are often late!
I love, love, love, LOVE this song! This is the sounds of my youth. It wasn’t until now that I noticed the SERIOUS “Don’t Stop til You Get Enough” vibes. I feel like a happy 8-year old kid listening to this.
Lmao. Everyone is absolutely mesmerized by the beat and groove, while Frankie Smith Pied Piper'd all the kids onto the bus and then peaces out onto the horizon as the neighboorhood, with the music fading away with the bus, slowly realize how they just allowed a mass kidnapping to happen while doing nothing to stop it.
Oh hell yeah we used to double Dutch! We loved this song, too. I loved it especially because it was a song about something girls were doing, at least in my school and neighborhood, there was a hard gender lock on certain activities. Jumping rope and hand clap games were girl’s activities and boys didn’t seem interested. Still remember the thrill of watching a really good jumper do it for a long time. Shout out to the girls! 😍
OMG! I picking myself up off the floor- this my jam! This and Rappers Delight from back in the day! So excited, let’s gooooo! (Bet you’ve heard it tho, let’s see) Whoo hoo! 💜❤️✌️✨
I recall the double Dutch championships in my area. So fun...I could only double Dutch til I was 12. Big deal in my neighborhood. Seems like there was another big song for this, I forget.
What a wonderful blast from the past, I loved this song, it just makes me happy! I didn't know there was a video either. This reminds me of skating at The Roller Dome! I loved skating to this. Thanks for the happy reminder. God Bless.

This was really the very start of hip hop rap. Lots of artists sampled this. Am in bed with a sprained ankle so no dancing... just the thought of double dutching kills me. You dance for me.
Malcolm McLaren, the impresario behind The Sex Pistols, capitalized on the double-dutch craze two years after this proto-hip-hop classic when he slapped some stilted rhymes on top of "Jive Mabone" by The Mahotella Queens from South Africa to make his 1983 hit "Double Dutch". McLaran happily throws shouts out throughout the song to the Ebonettes, one of the double-dutch troupes from New York. Check that song out too when you can.
This was a great song to skate to at the roller skating rink. I could be in the middle of eating something and I would throw it away just to go skate to this song. good job
I grew up until I was 12 downstate and lower Michigan in Ann Arbor and me and my friends used to dance to this and try to do the jump roping thanks for the reminder of good times course now I live in the upper Peninsula of Michigan you were talking about I can’t California dreaming but how it gets cold there ha you should come up here even in the summer the waters It’s freezing and we get snow like you wouldn’t believe you should come up here to Marquette Michigan
1 of my fave DCOMs "Jump In" prominently features Double Dutch jump roping, in both amateur & competitive forms. It stars Corbin Bleu & Keke Palmer & is a cute fun movie that I highly recommend 😄

Frankie Smith: Hey everyone, I'm shooting a music video. Can I drive this sketchy bus by your house and pick up your kids?

Well I'll be darn here it comes
The Double Dutch Bus is on the street
You'd better get off the curb
Move your feet
Bus fare trans-pass
That's the way my money lasts

Go ahead and laugh that's okay
'Cause what I really wanna say
I got bad feet my corns hurt
To top it off I'm late for work
Let me tell you what I say
When I'm dealin' wit a funky sidewalk
Let me show you how I walk
When I gotta do my funky walk

I roller skated to this song every weekend for my whole teenage years
More old school suggestions are The Message by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five. Also, Rapper’s Delight by Sugarhill Gang
classic! love it...grab your skates! lets bounce!
Some people who skip rope are just AMAZING. It’s like dance mixed with sport.
Oh wow!! I loved this song back in the day. Thanks for the reaction!
I still have this 45 vinyl single from when I was in 3rd grade!!! I knew the whole thing- and still do!
I bought this album for my kids when they were little. Long time gone.
Old school...I started dancing and my kids flew to their bedrooms...🤣🤣
This was a great song to skate to at the roller skating rink. I could be in the middle of eating something and I would throw it away just to go skate to this song. good job

Royal Thunder- April Showers great bluesy rock band with an amazing female vocalist. Gonna keep commenting this until it happens. Love the channel
Oh deep classic Cut lol. Elementary school memories
1 of my fave DCOMs "Jump In" prominently features Double Dutch jump roping, in both amateur & competitive forms. It stars Corbin Bleu & Keke Palmer & is a cute fun movie that I highly recommend 😄

Is there ANY one under the age of 40 that hasn't busted a few moves to this, black or white?!?! I know I've come off more than one dance floor a little sweaty after this song!
By the way - whoever it is thats hitting the thumbs down, why don't you just go on & let the rest of us enjoy in peace?? We're loving the vibe over here. ❤ you Jamel! Thanks for the jam! 🙂👍
Your my favorite reactor on RUclips.....you take me back every time!!
Now you've seen the video. Wow!!!!
FYI
Those were actually Frankie Smith's daughters in the video. I found that out years ago while watching internet and interviews.
I’m shooting the duck right now on my skates! Thanks for this one... ❤️
