  • In this episode, Victor takes a short drive over to Florida's Space Coast for a tank tour of Francisco Ruiz, a 180-gallon reef tank. Francisco himself is a long-time hobbyist known for his stunning reef tank designs. Surprisingly, Francisco's tank is missing a common piece of equipment, despite its health and stability. The dilemma arises: should Francisco make the upgrade to his already successful reef tank, or risk upsetting its current balance?

Here’s the proof you don’t need fancy equipment to have successful reef tank,no power heads with that many corals and all doing excellent iam speechless, beautiful work.

I think giving suggestions on feeding fish it’s ok . But the guy is doing great whatever he’s doing the tank is doing fantastic and fish look healthy.
If you over feed it also becomes a problem!

I would agree, the tank is beautiful. I wish my tank looked this good, recovery from listening to a friends advice..(definitely hurt my tank changing its stability).. stability is key, why change something that's clearly working for him. But we only see a snapshot right now, maybe he was asking for suggestions and they just edited that part out. We dont know.

Those older RedSea tanks have a couple of circulation pumps behind the rear wall, so there is more circulation going on than just the return pump. Beautiful system, goes to show that stability is key in this hobby. Keep up the great content Vic!

You should see my main tank, no filtration except for macros, no socks, skimmer, uv, ozone, nothing. Just two big refugiums growing red macros so fast i can't keep my nutrients up. Dosing all for reef and occasionally raising my nitrates chemically to achieve the 1-10 phosphate to nitrate ratio.
Should also see the store that got me going full macro, located in Vero Beach just south of this videos subject

My recommendation. Red sea reefwave pumps with Mp40's dialled down with a battery back up. Reefwave Excellent for surface agitation, and as yet mine has not needing cleaning, had it 12 months nearly 😮 planning on cleaning soon. I Used to have maxpect gyres and they are pain in the but for needing cleaning all the time.

I'm blown away that he has ZERO powerheads. This has to be one of the first tanks, I've seen this nice without powerheads. Mind blown.

Love the tank! Question, if the tank looks this good, why would you want to lower phosphates?

    • @WorldWideCorals

So aptasia X will smother corals. If he turns off his tank and put aptasia X on that Xenia that has the potential to take over the tank, that stuff will kill off that pest coral and he won’t have to worry about taking apart the tank and scrapping anything away. I have a few aggressive corals in my tank that want to take over everything, pop that aptasia x on there for about 30 mins with wave maker, power head, intake turned off. And enjoy the new real estate 😊 the aptasia X is reef safe floating around in the water column, it is only dangers if it sits directly on a coral for long periods
