I completely understand innocent until proven guilty and that is in a court of law. In the court of public opinion, it's hard to believe these guys are innocent. For it to have escalated this way. In Canada, our Jordan rights are that from the day you are charged, you must be tried within 18 months. If they cannot prosecute you within those 18 months, your rights have been sufficiently violated to stay your charges and effectively make you immune from prosecution over that incident.
What prevents people being charged from internationally delaying their own trials to benefit from this? Seems like that wouldn't hold up for any and every charge
@@MusicVersa ah OK ok. That makes more sense I guess but this still puts, in my opinion, an undue pressure on the state to put together a case in a short amount of time (in some situations) that could easily lead to a flawed case for the prosecution. Again, thats my opinion. If investigators needed another 6 months to look into things and put together a case correctly I don't see an issue with that.
@butcherpete2286 it has to be the justice systems' fault... if you delay it and you can't make the date assigned... an adjustment is made to the timeline.
In the OHL, we have a team that moved from Brampton to North Bay. They are still called the North Bay Battalion so unfortunately for Mississauga it would either be the Steelheads or a new name. It is kind of weird that they're going to Brampton because it never worked out in Brampton for my Battalion. (Die hard North Bay Battalion fan here). Really hoping Mississauga can have better success there than we did. Thank you for all you do Hockey Guy!
It's not unusual for a junior hockey team to move from city to city. Do you remember The North Bay Centennials? They are now The Saginaw Spirit. Money and ownership for junior teams can be difficult. Large cities like Mississauga always have trouble keeping a team.
how did he not know North Bay is the Battalion 🫤 so ya, taken. North Bay back to the Cents would be awesome but i bet they stay being the Troops. junior hockey isn’t a draw in the GTA due to demographics and endless entertainment choices.
Really surprised the Sens waived Chartier they didnt need to unless an ensuing trade is occuring tomorrow so interested to see why since they have the cap space to carry extra players rn
I went to see a Mississauga game before the new year this season, and the arena was less than half full. I couldn't believe how little the attendance was for the game. It was a weekend game too.
Most people are struggling to afford groceries right now. Attending a crappy CHL game is at the bottom of most people's priority list. On top of their already low average attendance.
It's unfortunate for the players in the WJC case, innocent until proven guilty of course, but justice needs to be served and the court system isn't quick. Good for them for turning themselves in, now we just need to wait and see what transpires. If they are found guilty I have to say I hope their status doesn't affect (lessen) the penalization they receive for what is a heinous crime.
I know most people watching assume he is guilty, but imagine if he is innocent. It'd be pretty stressful to get accused of sexually assaulting someone when you are innocent. Not saying he is one or the other, I just don't want people to hate on mental health breaks because of the excuses of others
There is something there. I think there is enough video evidence provided by one of the 3 that were'nt charged that may be the game changer. The cover up and payoffs by Hockey Canada encouraged this type of behavior. I'm not one to really believe accusers many years after the fact, but this is not the case. I believe the victim was denied justice by Hockey Canada. I don't see any of the 5 ever playing in the NHL again. There is honor and tradition in the game, above all else and preserves the game. Otherwise, we become the NFL, NBA or MLB,, which are cesspools of human character. May the victim get their long overdue justice for a horrible crime. May she get even more justice from a nation that betrayed her in order to protect hockey players from their crimes.
I read the title and saw the Sharks jersey and was nervous. I knew it wasn't anything to do with Sharks players until I saw that jersey in the video. As soon as I saw Tommy's injury mentioned on the board I realized it was alright.
Question to those up north. Does Canada, especially with the backlog, have plea deals? So instead of the felony they are accused of, they plead guilty to some misdemeanor instead. Another note regarding contract term. Since this is a felony case, there is a possibility that since the 4 are Canadian, their US work visa's get canceled. This would give teams, regardless of verdict, an out to term the contract.
For those wondering about Chartier, he has had a bad go at it with concussions, was basically in his mom's basement not expecting to play hockey again and got called up by Ottawa. As a player, he plays very smart, doesn't make mistakes. He doesn't create a bunch of offence, but hes a legit 200ft player. I saw a stat he was like #88 out of top 100 in the league for speed bursts or something, very very impressive. He does ALL the little things, backchecks hard as fuck, doesn't take anything for granted because he knows hes a fringe player who wont get many chances. He cleared waivers thankfully, we really like him in Ottawa! 150% effort every night.
One thing I don't get about this whole debacle is why on Earth did hockey Canada have those go away funds and why did they use them. "Here's some money, go away now. And you have no case, don't even bother looking into it. Just paying you from the kindness of our hearts." Sure buddy
