- Before a federal judge handed down her decision against David DePape for assaulting former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer, Rep. Pelosi asked the judge for a "very long" sentence.

The point being if he attacked a normal everyday citizen, he'd be out the next day causing harm on someone else but when he attacks the husband of a government official, now it's 30 years which is basically a life sentence given his age if he's actually 50 like someone else said. I wish I was exaggerating but this is unfortunately the way the country is as of now.
@@tylerbenton4495 Except its BS. You are exaggerating. If some dude broke in to any other house on Russian Hill and held an old man hostage until the cops showed up, and then bludgeoned him with a hammer in front of the cops, he would not, in fact, be out the next day.
These are federal charges, sentencing is done on a point system, its all very systematized. The judge just went to the high end of the range to dissuade political violence, and said so, but it was never going to be light.

Does anyone have any data/proof that sentencing would have been lighter in a different case? I mean he did stack a senior citizen AND was trying to attack/kidnap a public officer. Does that not warrant a harsh sentence?
