It sucks that anxiety ruins the life of many people. I used to have bad anxiety when I was in college. But at least Royce is taking on his fears.
I cut off a friend because of how bad his anxiety was. Got to a point where I could feel his negative energy and how on edge he was about everything.
@@cimi93x please tell me you at least give the jeans wipe first
His anxiety is self-induced, he smoked potent weed at 16.
Zach Randolph is also afraid of flight and therefore refuses to jump higher than a phone book.
Ryan more like a credit card lol
@@theamateurobserver 😂🤣🤣
Z Bo will jump you if mess with him thats about the only jumping he does
🤣😆🤣
people gotta understand that athletes, no matter how skill level or IQ, are still human... they also have problems like anxiety or depression, among other things... professional leagues need to address that for the benefit of the players, the teams and ultimately, the fans...
Man just so people know... I have the same issue. I'm scared shitless when traveling by a plane, last time out in 2014 I literally shook for 2 hours, I was reading those garbage magazines just to try and forget about the situation. Those panic attacks are the worst thing you could ever feel, for 10,15 seconds I feel like I'm gonna die, my heart is beating and I get a sort of falling sensation. People who never had any problems of this nature can't begin to understand the true awfulness of such an experience. For now I'm genuinely stuck, and if I was offered a flight to some tropical island for free or something, I would seriously decline 10/10 times...
I remember that pick for the Rockets. Especially since I’m a fan of them. Sucks it didn’t work out with him. I also suffer from travel anxiety. Usually ok on planes, but been worried more lately.
Judge Cooler have you tried Xanax?
So when Mr White decided to leave Iowa State early to get paid in the NBA was he unaware of the requirements of the job? Reasonable accommodation should be made, but he was asking for much more than that.
If someone is afraid of water would you change the job duties of a firefighter to allow for them not wanting to actually put fires out? Does someone with a nut allergy apply to work for Reeses and refuse to touch the products?
William Lane i've tried a similar drug when I flew back that time in '14. I think I took it to late and it didn't have time to react, so it wasn't very helpful, I only started to feel kinda woosy amnd loose when we landed...
The NBA seriously needs a mental health policy
Kenny Smith facts
Kenny Smith
Most of your favourite ballers wouldn’t be in the nba idiot, including 80’s 90’s 2000’s 2018 nba, having mental health has nothing to do with how great you are as a baller
Grey Fox23 da fuck. This post is strictly about the NBA ignoring mental health issues that may affect players.
Grey Fox23 I’m not talking bout how great players
Kenny Smith I remember this guy
Not a Rockets fan, but I felt bad for White . I would hear him say that the team didn’t care for his anxiety problems. I also feel bad because they could have gotten someone else that could have helped them.
mcgusjustice sports is just a business. Nothing personal
DontPanicrs it is but they knew what they got when they draft him in the 16th pick....
DontPanicrs the fact that its a business is why they should care lol
mcgusjustice the fact is that rockets actually cared and went out and beyond to accommodate him. Bought him a luxury bus so he can travel with his family on road games, agreed not to play him on back to back games etc. however things went south when he was first dropped to the d league as he was not performing as expected. Royce White is a scam.
Cuz its time to swallow shit and be a big boy . everybody has anxiety
As an NBA fan who suffers from generalized anxiety disorder I didn't know this about Royce. I really feel for him & I honestly couldn't imagine going through that atmosphere and pressure as a professional basketball player that he has having to deal with mental health issues. I definitely know exactly what it's like and it sucks. Glad he's found himself a home with the lightning out there and overcoming it with his play. Right on dawg
Thatdrummerboi facts bro I suffer from ocd it sucks but we live our lives and deal with it ur not alone
yeah, but did you knock up 5 women? I don't really have pity for Royce
It would have to be at a reduced salary, but I feel like an NBA team could have found a way to accommodate. Just like Kyrie wasn't able to play home games for the 2021 season, Royce could be a player only for home games or short regional cities accessible by car/train. A team could probably pick him up for cheap with those conditions.
Anxiety is real. It demoralizes you. I suffer from it myself and just thinking about flying gets me scared. I completely understand where he is coming from.
evidently he didn't have anxiety when knocking up 5 women
everyone here feeling bad for the guy and I'm like...naw I'll pass on my pity. Dude's a deadbeat dad 5 times over
are you afraid of driving? you are more likely to die in a car accident than a plane crash. I don't get where the anxiety comes from
Fu kers ewwwwwwww
True. I had q hard time flying before but you just have to get used to it. I took meds before flying. Hated the long waits on depatures.
Its sad how the NBA has handled players with mental illnesses. They do realize that its not these peoples faults and its honestly something that these athletes have no control over.
Jayisbro it doesn’t matter.
Matthew Washington wanna explain y it doesnt matter ?
The NBA isn't a charity you either have it or you don't.
It doesn't matter if they have control over it or not. The NBA is a business and clearly has stringent and frequent travel. The reason someone can not travel is irrelevant.
Matthew Washington lmao wouldn’t want you being an executive of a business, you sound heartless
He was exceptional at Iowa State. He could have been a Draymond Green type impact on the Houston offense. Still, its nice to see him playing ball somewhere.
Way more talent than draymond
green is a role player with great defense
@@yousefamr633 and great IQ , decent shooting (he has a slump rn) and Is fast and strong
@@juanameric7653 fast? decent shooting?no
he have a good IQ
and i already said that he is a great defender but that doesn't make you an Allstar
@@yousefamr633 draymond have one of the best iq in the game , he's capable to make 7 or 8 3s in a game , stfu and stop hating
Respect, such a great channel. So glad Royce is doing well and living up to his potential in Canada.
How you gonna have anxiety but still steal shit lol
Yeah, I actually met this guy in college. He's a real piece of shit. He doesn't deserve anything lol. Squandered an NBA career.
@@ObscureManifesto what he do?
Ankit Bhakta he’s a real piece of shit but yet you watch videos about him 😂. Stop making up shit , you weirdo.
MoneyMike human you make mistakes
MoneyMike ikr. Wtf
Make a video about how Raymond Felton is low key the best player in the NBA
lmao fam why you always commenting this 😂
he needs to stop so you wont say "fam" again...man please make that word die soon
Felton was one of the best point guards way back then but unfortunately he was traded to teams which derails his potential. Such waste of talent like this one
Steve Hunt Fam, why the fuck are you so bothered?
CaineLovesCali it’s the video we need
I went to high school with this guy. Dudes a monster never knew he had anxiety issues
king lou i went to high school with Lebron. Oh and Obama
Hopkins or delasalle?
@@MADEready33 Hopkins we were in the same grade. 09 grads
As a long time rockets fan, I was so sad that he couldn't pull through.
This man had so much potential. If you never seem him play i encourage you to.
He was gonna be a solid player in this league.
I heard his story a while back, I'm glad to hear he's still hooping. Mental health is something a lot of people suffer with but not many are aware..
I'm glad he never made it , and don't hate me for this , I think it's good for him, he'll ultimately be successful in other ways .
Being in such pressure in the greatest league at the most stress with 0 help the rockets gave them could have caused him more problems .
We've lost many young stars to anxiety , depression etc that has lead them to doing drugs , suicides etc
And if he constantly has to fly on top of that he would probably be depressed 247.
I'm glad he found a job in his passion in a smaller market but still doing what makes him happy
I get your point, it could've been better phrased like, I'm glad he's playing at a lower level still, or something like that
RatedPending - Please Don't Sue Me
I kinda like how blunt he was, despite how harsh it initially started.
The Regular Gamers it pissed me off that he couldn't get a meeting with stern for a mental health policy
The only way that would have even helped is if the NBA changed how their season was structured. No one wants to pay full price for someone who can't even do half the work and aside from that, no offense but in this case, it's not the NBA's fault.
If you know flying freaks you out, then don't apply for the job that has you playing 82 games all around the country and some even in Europe. He knew full well that you had to fly in the NBA. It would be different if they gave him the job and then surprised him with flying that wasn't part of the deal, but he knew.
MY generation has this stupid thought process that the world should bend over backward for them. Really it's simple, don't apply for jobs you can't do OR in your pre-draft interviews ask questions.
Always will remember this guy. The dude could truly ball. He was so versatile and a key player for any team. Too bad he couldn’t show it in the NBA.
I read the title and idk Royce White, I look forward to learning something new. Thx for another vid
just got told to watch this in my science class so guess i'm here?
He is not scared of flight, he is scared of death
Truth. Thats usually the core problem
caca yang yeah from flight
True you have to over come and accept death in order to beat your anxiety/fears
I would assume this is the best assumption that shit is scary
@@justusgreen8498 but what's the point of being afraid of death when we all know we gonna taste what's death like some day and could happen anytime could be heart attack or accident
So rhe Rockets didn't know he had a fear of flying, and he himself knew he had a fear of flying but decided to be a basketball player?
That's good... 👍👍 nice story and good video
I live in Canada and I've seen this guy play. I thought he was a beast but now that I am hearing his story it makes the story much more interesting
He’s got an AMAZING you tube channel now called “Please Call Me Crazy”. If you haven’t heard it tune in. It’s incredibly insightful and educational
I remember rooting for this guy when he was hittin the draft. Super unfortunate he has anxiety like that
I will never forget 2012, I was flying from Miami to Connecticut and this guy asked to switch seats with me. I was confused but obliged and moved to his seat. He came back and suggested I move back to my seat but I declined this time. I wish I was more understanding back then. Sorry Royce! 😑😣
Royce White, I thank you. You articulate a very important topic. I thank you again. THANKS
I remember White from NBA 2k13. I had him in my Rockets GM and boy he was fire playing alongside Harden and Lin.
This guy plays vs the team where I leave quite regularly, it’s fun to watch him play, he passes like lebron and bodies everyone. Absolutely dominant. Sometimes the spectators yell “this is why the rockets didn’t want you!” Whenever he misses a free throw or messes up. Kinda bugs me cuz they did want him but whatever.
Great story. Thanks for producing.
I met Royce White here in Canada, amazing dude
Zen are you from London
I'm a die hard Rockets fan, I was excited about Royce and it was nothing but a huge let down because the Rockets tried everything to get him on the court but all he did was trash talk us. The dude is sooooo talented, he could've done so much in the NBA. I think his season projections were 16p/9r/4a for his first rookie season because he was coming in at a time we were rebuilding, he's was going to be a starter.
Its sad how the NBA has handed players with mental illnesses. They do realize that its not these peoples faults and its honestly something that these athletes have no control over.
Jayisbro its business
it's sad how he knocked up 5 women
if he can't fly then he can't make it to all 82 games, plus the post season...not sure what you expect the NBA to do about that. some people are born with no legs...should the nba also have a no leg policy?
I'm still pissed the rim is so high. NBA discriminates against short people
If he had that many mental issues. Has anybody ever thought...."hey maybe he doesn't belong in the NBA?" There are alot of good players who dont make it who dont have mental issues. Its a tough league regardless. Its a shame his own mental shortcomings stopped him frombrealising his full potential.
Statistically taking a bus is more dangerous than taking a plane lol.
He is good I see him play every Sunday at his practice he’s got crazy court vision
And now he’s playing in The Big3 league set up by ice cube and he’s actually doing pretty good he’s in the conversation for player of the week honors every week and big3 is worth the look if you haven’t watched it
Can you make videos on success
stories about past NBA? eg those that became coaches, successful business owners, executives, etc? I’m sure folks would be interested on how Phil Jackson became a coach after playing, or how Magic became the business mogul he is!
CALI CREWW
When I think of Royce White I remember the words from some of his (4) baby mama about how he did not make time for their child, would not pay child support, tried to give them $$ to get an abortion, or be involved with all of his 5 kids.
Not sure what happened to the charges of domestic violence, or whether he settled any of the lawsuits again him.
I feel for those who struggle with or suffer from mental issues. But the world does owe them anything when it comes to the workplace. If he had signed up for the Army and refused to get on an air transport would the Army have changed their expectation?
Just because someone is qualified or talented enough to earn big $$$ at a job does not mean they should get paid if they cannot perform the duties required. Nobody told Royce White he couldn't be in the NBA. They were just not willing to let him dictate the terms of his duties.
OCD is real. A good friend of mine is suffering from it. He led a normal life until his thyroid started having issues. He had to take time off from work for a few months. I imagine flying for this guy was hell.
He really found his place in playing Canadian basketball
Boy, I feel for the guy. I hope all is well with him
He ended up being a very bad person and a fraud
@@4411shady no hes not. GO follow his podcast please call me crazy. Brilliant young man
Royce is a very smart guy
2 players (derozan and love,) talked about their mental health issue but the story disappeared after a few months then nothing changed, what more can Royce do on his own at the time
Your one of the greatest youtubers of all time congratulations on 111k
Thanks breh ✊
CaineLovesCali you are a true youtuber never take days off thanks
Cainelovescali your lit keep it up with the banger videos!
Thanks breh!
This is not true. I suggest that people go on his show called " call me crazy" also he told his story on Whitlock Fearless.
Thanks for reconciling the nlba my home town is st.johns edge
Here now because the NBA Commisioner has just layed out new policies for awareness of mental wellness. And hopefully soon allow their own doctors to work with them. Im glad he found somewhere to use his talents. He was one of my favorite picks as a rockets fan.
This guy can definitely ball, sadly it's unlikely he gets another shot.
I think he should try again to get into conversation with the commissioner, stern wasent as open-minded as silver is and he can definitely contribute to player health in a way the league often doesn't even consider
Playstyle wise he would be perfect for today's game. He is on the Draymond Green mold, but certainly a more natural talent and fluent athlete. He definitely had all star potential.
California loves Caine!!!
If Royce White just shut up and dribbled. He would be in the nba.Royce White was a symbol of change that the nba didn’t want to deal with.Man I wanted to watch him play in the league.
Do a vid on how he was the #1 pick in the big 3 league
Royce will be playing in The Tournament (3v3 tournament for old college players) for the Iowa State's Hilton Magic Legends this summer.
Bros playing in my hometown of London.. and he’s ballin out heavy now!
Anxiety is no joke. Happy to see him playing professional ball.
Love your vids Cain!!!
thanks breh!
That's good that he always stood his ground.
Just got picked 1st in the big 3 2019 draft 1st round
I love Caine and Cali 😍
Lachie McF Pause...
Met the guy, pretty cool dude
That's so sad. I wish he didn't have that disorder. It would of been nice to see if his game would of been successful at the next level.
Bruh they shouldve let him take the bus.
Ryan Reed tru
Ryan Reed I think the Rockets could've done more to help him
BallinlikeCP3
I don't think that's realistic. There are back to back games with 1000+ miles of travel all the time. A bus ain't gonna cut it. A bus, driver, fuel, maintenance, and everything else to go along with that is not worth it for one player.
alex042687 i see what u saying. And he wasnt a top player in the league
Ryan Reed yea, those things are tough to handle.
I remember when the Kings signed him to that 10-day contract. He actually got some playing time. He was decent.
Bro I live in London! Aye ROYCE WHITE WAS MVP OF THE 2016 - 2017 NBLC FINALS! THE LONDON LIGHTNING BEAT THE HALIFAX HURRICANES IN GAME 6! HE IS VERY SKILLED! HE DESERVES IT!
I remember going to his games back in the day when he was in highschool I forgot all about him
What he did was brave, thanks for shining a light to this
Should've had him see a therapist
It was sad that was taking pills before flights so he was definitely seeing a psychiatrist.
no one stopped him from seeing a therapist
He took pills before flight?
@@jackson.denzler. 2:50
Right? You say you need help, but wont get any real help. You just want your own mental health professionals to try and dictate to the team as to whats acceptable for you or not. Sorry, no hiding behind diagnosis to try and have the red carpet rollled out for you....
I suffer from ocd as well it sucks but people who have it deal with it
Bro they really did that to him like he could have been a star making millions in the nba smh
what exactly did they do to him?
I remember watching this dude play when I would go to vipers games as kid
I remember seeing him and his story on HBO real sports what stood out to me was the fact that he wanted the Rockets to pay for his accommodations the same as they would for a airline ticket only he wanted his own personal bus and such he had some other demands or concerns about his mental health they just and still aren’t ready to recognize as concerns of the team or league
Imagine paying for this dude to ride up and down the country when it’s taking the the team two hours to fly it’s taking him 8 to 12 hours to ride and that’s just on the same coast we not talking west to east
The first position less player to get drafted. Fray mind and all these other guys had to develop that. He naturally was just that gifted
i go to a lot of London Lightning games and this guy is talented he is a double double machine
What a shame he's a true talent. The Rockets really missed out. They should've helped him through this.
DANG!!!! I completely forgot about this dude! I remember feeling bad for him
You are the best RUclipsr ever love your videos
Appreciate it man 👍
I remember in NBA 2K14 (PS4) he's on the Sixers roster and puts up good numbers
This is one of the toughest dilemmas because travelling plays such a huge role in the NBA. If he happens to play in the finals, that's a lot of cross country travel in very little time while also having to play at the highest level of competition. I'm assuming the London team is a city somewhere in Canada since it would be impossible for him to travel without getting on a plane. I was hoping the video went more in detail on how he is dealing with the travelling demands on his current team to shed more light on how the team is addressing his needs in a way the NBA did not.
I have very little, if any, knowledge on the topic of mental health, but this is a very important topic to talk about, especially with the increasing number of NBA players talking about this very topic more and more openly. Is the anxiety of flying something that can be slowly alleviated or will this persist for the rest of someone's life? Travelling by bus means that there will be some games that are missed, so I'm curious on exactly how many games this would actually be and how big of an impact this plays. I would love to see the media interview some experts on this subject so we can get a better understanding on what is going on and how the league can better address these issues.
Royce White was always one of my favorite players to use as a PF in NBA 2K14. Being a SF/PF rookie with Dimer was definitely useful for that game.
Larry Sanders is also another player who I enjoyed watching/using in 2K who has dealt with mental health issues that prevented him from reaching his potential in the NBA.
I live in London where he plays and wow he might win back to back mvp!
This guy is only 30,31yrs old. Hes fully gray now? Was he 27 in college.
It’s funny that I’m watching this video while watching Royce play. He’s a good player actually.
had the US has a hyper speed train network, this guy may be able to play in NBA.
I respect and feel this mans pain and the nba should definitely develop a mental health policy.
I was really hyped for this guy.
I remember this dude. I used to always call him Royce da 6'8 when seeing him in free agency
when playing 2k14 ^
Kinna sad how a Basketball franchise which is worth 100s of millions of dollars can't have something put in place to help a potentially valuable player out.
It'd be a small bit of their time and money to help him, and yet it ends up resulting in him getting suspended and ultimately leaving the league.
It sounded like he was a player with a lot of potential. What he should do was move to Spain. He would be a star in Europe and he would only had to get on a flight something like 10 times per year if they played euroleague or 0 if only domestic games. Also I'm not sure what exactly did he expect to happen. I would've been pissed if a guy on a team is before me in game rotation if he picks and chooses his games (because he won't fly). Also how can you trust your teammate if you're not sure that he can step up and play ball when needed? This dude would be a locker room killer.
It feels like he just wanted that guaranteed contract money and be done with it.
Minneapolis will always have love for Royce White.
Royce is the most important player to never play in the NBA. David Stern was only every worried about his product and did not show concern for the players as human beings. I live in London where Royce now plays. He is incredible to watch live and a very nice guy (off the court ;) ) With the new wave of stars coming out about mental health, I hope that Royce will be given credit as pioneer who put his personal health before all else. Props Royce... lets get another chip this year!!!
Also props to @CaineLovesCali for creating this video! Every bit helps the cause.
Im suprised more people haven't discussed this.
