  • We've launched a new consultation on nationally significant proposals for the transformation of Birkenhead 👉 haveyoursay.wi...
Work at Milton Pavements is complete, projects at Wirral Waters and Birkenhead Market are underway and funding is in place to remove the two flyovers near the Queensway tunnel.
    But there’s a LOT more.
It’s all part of a wider ambition to recreate Birkenhead as a waterfront garden city with some key objectives including:
    ✅ New mixed-use family neighbourhoods
✅ Renewed residential areas making the town “greener” and more attractive
    ✅ A diverse local economy
✅ Improved connectivity with the city region
Some of the ‘catalyst projects’ to help us get there include:
👉Creating a beautiful linear park to link three key development areas
👉A new commercial district to increase footfall in the town centre
👉A mass transit system for Central and Wirral Water areas
Feedback from past consultations has helped shape this vision and the eight-week consultation will run for eight weeks from 24 March 2021.
It’s your opportunity to help refine our ideas and build the future. These will be the biggest changes to Birkenhead since 1947 and will also support the development of Wirral’s Local Plan.

looks and sounds great, and wish all involved the best of luck, it is long over due, playing 2nd fiddle to liverpool for years. A young talented team need to be at the heart of this not the usual old cronies who have consistently put their own needs before the residents of Birkenhead, look forward, stop felling trees, stop allowing green belt building from greedy developers, and yes think of the future, we could be an example to the rest of the world in how we have turned a run down post war town into a vibrant, healthy modern area we are proud to live in. Thank you for the vision please let it happen.

This looks incredible! I like the salvation and priority of the green spaces with the inclusion of high rise plan to the boundary of the Mersey.
I hate to be negative but as with Wirral waters original plans, we can more than likely expect this to be value engineered to include 4 or 5 new buildings delivered in just under 50 years 😂

Certainly and ambitious project and what Birkenhead needs after years of decline. The mass transit system planned would be a good candidate to make use of the old railway cuttings and link central Birkenhead to Wirral waters in a circular route and extend down to the new build houses in the North end. This could then help the people at the Penny bridge end of wallasey get into birkenhead easier than using buses. Make use of the old railway infrastructure with trams for example.

The thing is I have noticed they have done 3 buildings near the ship dock bit, I think one reason it is going go take up to 2040 is it seems there is only one group of builders.
Mayne they was just eating for the funding to increase I think it is 45 to 50 million or billion now, also maybe it is thd covid bs that is delaying things.
Anyway I hope from now on since the funding is secured, and covid is over after 19 July 2021, there will be a multitude of builders, building different building at the same time.

What, actually, are the proposals? All I’m seeing here is another collection of names for coloured-in parts of the map. That no one now mentions “the Hamilton Quarter” does not exactly inspire confidence in the approach: already it’s shaping up to be a repetition of past mistakes: an attempt to dictate top-down the character of an area (which worked so well last time). What on earth is “Hamilton Park”? Why is it called that, when Hamilton Square is not in it? What is proposed for the “St Werburgh’s Quarter”-other than demolition of what neglect has put beyond hope of recovery? Consultation on what? You’ve told us nothing.

    What are load of rubbish
They will be destroying (old history buildings what is grade 2) listed and a national monument on the roundabout where the flyover is they cannot destroy that at all.
If people remember when the flyovers were closed it has caused chaos on the road around the flyover as well to the bus route to the tunnel.
As well when the other flyover is closed it causes chaos up the road where Birkenhead central station is.
There's 149 grade listed buildings in the Wirral Merseyside area and maybe there's orders what has not been listed yet so these buildings needs to be protected not the demolish because some of these buildings are long the route were they have marked to be demolished.
They have promised to put stuff back in place like the old railway route along the Birkenhead dock to join the lines back from rock ferry station around to Birkenhead North station line what heads off to New Brighton and the other from Birkenhead North station.
They can't really build on Birkenhead docks in four places because one area gets used by the lorries on the ferry terminal two parts of the duck gets used by the shipping area for unloading and loading and the ugly area is the warehouses four different business companies the old dry docks at the far end still gets use for repairing vessels.
What about making a ship museum at the far end of the ducks to preserve our natural history ships like our old world war ship what is slightly underneath water what can be still saved.
The recycling centre was marked as well to be demolished they cannot do that because we need our recycle all it needs to be is updated to recycle nearly everything what can be recycled.

  • @oddity4650

I noticed there is no spit, gum, turds, packaging on the floor 🤔 i am suspicious, that is obviously been edited ... I notice all them things i mentioned in Birkenhead, one thing thay needs to be done is more #cctv prefer preferably cctv that uses biometrics to help in identifying who makes the streets messy, as it angers me and others so much so it is one reason I dont go outside all the time as it get angry the the utter selfishness of people.
Also another issue is smokers and vapers smoking and or vaping on non wide paths or and outside shops, pubs etc.
Yet the council don't do anything about it, what is the point having information about second hand smoke/vape of it is not reinforced by council 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️
I mema ffs in Japan they ban smoking and vaping in public places.
It is about time the #government learn from other country's.
Also I have been on many paths in the uk in the wirral and other places, I notice many wide or and non busy paths, yet they are not cycle or even e scooter paths.
Is that going to change any time this year or next year etc, as it is another reason me and others don't use the a e scooter or bicycle, as there is many stupid car drivers so making use of them paths to make them half cyclie/ e scooter paths would help the environment and people health.
Norway, Belgium etc are examples of how things could be done if the government is willing to change things.
