I am thinking about going this route. The buttkicker 2 that I use is 90 watts, while these are 50 watts. I wonder if I will feel less feedback. I am also trying to figure out how to attach it. I race on the cheap and use a Next Level Racing gt lite racing seat. The buttkicker was perfect for that since it would clamp right on the rig. Then when I wasn't racing, I would clamp it on my desk chair for regular gaming. Thanks for the video, it's been incredibly helpful! Couple questions if you don't mind:
    1) Did you feel the need to isolate the seat and pedals from your rig? I've heard if you don't isolate them, the vibrations carry through to the rig frame and can muddle the effect. Most people seem to use rubber mounts.
    2) Do you think it matters if you mount the shaker on the top of the pedal plate vs the bottom?

    • @HamVR
      @HamVR  Год назад

      Hi regarding your questions 1) For just two shakers front and back I don't believe it's necessary to isolate them. I can easily feel the difference between the front a back being directly under the seat and under the pedals. Shakers in each corner, attached to the rig frame would be different though. 2) Top or bottom of the pedals shouldn't make any difference, the closer to your feet the better though. Also in general the closer the shakers are to your body the better, since you then don't need to turn them up so high to feel them.

I believe one or two PlayStation racing games broadcast game telemetry data (Dirt Rally and F1) but I'm yet to confirm this is the case. If they do, it might be possible to run SimHub on a PC on the same network as the PlayStation and get proper haptics from game data.

    For the price of 300 to 450€, or addtionnal 150€,
    I would look forward to extend it progressively to 1 or 2 more Amps, with 2 or 4 more basshakers.
    On 4 sides (wheels) of the rig to have more separate and oriented effects.
    But the question is, is it possible to configure an effect to only one amp "soundcard",
    to redirect effects to different soundcards, to a different couple of transducers.
    Meaning that with 6 Bass shakers, you can have a different effect on each transducer, depending on the telemetry,
    for instance someone hits you from behind in Formula, and in Project Cars, your racing crew ask you, did you notice you lost a back wheel ?
    and you can tell, yes, it was the right one...

    • @HamVR
      @HamVR  2 года назад +1

      Yes you could run 2 more amps and 4 more bass shakers. You would have 3 amps with three volume dials, which would be a little fiddley to adjust. A better option would be a more poweful six channel amp and six channel sound card (or multiple sound cards). The reason the two bass shaker setup works so well is that with one directly under the seat and pedal deck, they don't need much power in order to feel them. With bass shakers on the corners of the rig, you will need a lot more gain to feel it the same amount vibration since there is more distance to travel.

      @@HamVR Here is my updated experience
      USB Soundcards based on c-media chips, pretend to support 5 or 7.1, optical spdif,
      but only deliver stereo under Windows 10/11, no updated drivers, last c-media drivers date back to 2015/16, I have ... tried almost every possibility...
      I got 4 channels at best, but never 5.1 DD.
      Windows detects a soundcard of triple monitors through their hdmi connection,
      Each screen has an optical out, and my central Sony has full 5.1 Dolby Digital output through hdmi (eARC), not through display port.
      6 channels tested on my 20y old Harman/Kardon AVR130, used in another room.
      No need for another soundcard, lag of optical output seems bearable...
      I only need another amp with 5.1 optical input, which will probably be as expensive as 2 other small nobsound amp.
      This solution may end up with many long cables (12) from the shakers to the amp, if the 10kg big heavy amp does not fit close on/under a (moving) rig.
      The Nobsound bluetooth solution means less cables, small light amp/soundcard combination means less items, less weight, less space, short cables.
      Cables, amps, power units may remain under the seat.
      Very short cables to transducers, each amp placed next to my seat to reach volume knobs easily, volume is adjusted in SimHub anyway.
      Simhub can redirect different effects to different soundcards and any transducers seperately, by a simple on/off click. Amazing software..donation 15€.
      But my experience with Bluetooth is horrendous lag, unsuitable for short impact effects, they come way too late!!
      USB Cable seems a must, and does not work on the non-powered Hub on my rig, two more USB cable would leave the rig...
      Better to power up my USB hub.
      There may be a risk of a humming sound issue caused by the electrical ground loop.
      Ideally, the only cable to leave the rig should be an extension power socket with 4 inputs and the USB connection of the USB Hub.
      And the Rockwood Bodyshaker 12cm 100W are even cheaper : 19€ :
      6 of them = 120€
      3 mini amps = 140€ ( a 5.1 amp can be found for less than 100€)
      Less than 300€ seems unbeatably cheap and it works.
      But the main question remains : are 6 bass-shakers really useful ?
      My first experience is that lateral detection of separate wheel effects with transducers positioned vertically is very poor, as the vibrations travel through the whole metal rig,
      and still mix with each other. That's the whole problem with bass, it cannot be easily localized. Maybe all transducers have to be positions horizontally.

      @@HamVR In fact I tried and either I did it not right, there a several ways to install bass-shakers, facing each other or away, up or down, but I could never tell right from left, front from rear was a little more clear, I read that telemetry is not so clearly identifiable left or right, so I currently keep just one under the seat, offset attached to wood, which makes more "analogue" vibration, and on under the pedal, which is great, for wheel slip, block, abs, I would never do without it anymore. Hopefully, the electronics in the pedals will resist the vibrations, lol

    Hey Ham, Are the shakers noisy and do they vibrate through the room?

    • @HamVR
      @HamVR  Год назад

      It depends how loud you turn them up really. On quarter volume they are fine. I recommend you have something to lift your rig off the floor e.g. wheels or pads to isolate the vibration energy to the rig.

    Could you run this setup on a PS5?

    • @HamVR
      @HamVR  2 года назад +1

      You can but it's audio based haptics only which isn't that great compared telemetry based haptics on PC. What I did was run the PS5 audio through my PC and removed the higher frequency signal with software. It was OK but not worth the effort IMO.

      If you are getting the same amp in this video, go for 2 shakers (under seat and under pedals). It's the sweet spot for feedback and value IMO.

    Would this be possible on a ps5?

    • @HamVR
      @HamVR  2 года назад

      Technically yes it's possible, however very few PlayStation games broadcast telemetry data. I think Dirt Rally (1.0) might be the only one I've heard of. Without telemetry data you would have resort to audio only haptics which just isn't the same. I tried it with GT7 filtering out the high frequency sounds but it wasn't very good tbh.

    Those Nobsound amps tend to cut in and out for me - due to overheating.

    • @HamVR
      @HamVR  11 месяцев назад

      The trick is to not to push them beyond half way. If you need more gain than that, you probably need a bigger amp or to move your bass shakers so that they are closer & transmit energy better. That's why locating them directly under the seat and pedal tray is a good location. For a four corner, setup I would definitely go for bigger amps.

      it gives way more than enough, I use the knob at mid-volume, 80% in Simhub, most effects at 30-60, except gear change, wheel block and wheel slip at 100%
      The knob at max and the tiny amp gets really hot!

      @@tomsawyer2112 That amp is not enough. No contest. I have 3 of those amps, 2 BST1's and 4 TTS25 Pucks.
      After blowing multiple amps on the BST1's and learning how under powerered it was, I can for sure say this amp is NOT 50Watts X2 and is NOT worth it.

    • @tomsawyer2112
      @tomsawyer2112 Год назад +1

      @@MDaDonLegacy I disagree, I use it for for half a year, still works fine, and I am very happy with it, if you are not getting the right results, whatever the power, either you expect too much, either you have not optimized the placement of the bass shakers.
      Bass gives more resonnance when placed along with wood, and that helps a lot, rather than fixing it on metal.
      I finally set one under my foot pedal, for abs, slip, block on the wheels, and one under the seat, slight contact when vibrating. The result is that the effects merge with other effects, of the sterring wheel and the rig, and it becomes part of the simulation, without standing out.
      I forget it when its working, meaning my attention is not on the effects but on racing, I miss it when its off. The car feels dead.
