I was a powerseller when I quit ebay. I had a man buy a gold wedding band set. They received it, then the women called screaming that they had NOT bought this ring set. I told her no problem return the rings and I would refund them immediately. They did not return the rings, but ebay gave them a full refund anyway. I have never been back.

I sold a 100gb sim for £30, the buyer confirmed he received it in an email to me. He also asked if I could get more. I couldn't. Then after 10 days he made a claim, saying item not received. I asked ebay to look at previous messages from him, but they still sided with buyer. Being annoyed I contacted EE and told them my dongle with sim had been stolen, they confirmed sim was still being used. I asked them to cut sim off and block device, which they did. Two days later buyer contacted me to confirm it was his error and sim did turn up and was being used by his house mate, and could I unblock it because the phone it was in Samsung S6 Edge had been UK network (s) barred and his provider O2 couldn't help until I confirmed sim and phone not stolen. I couldn't remember the password and pin I gave to EE, so didn't help, Karma

Hi, my worry is that some sellers have been approached by the buyer asking for a discount quoting the 'not as described' get out. If seller doesn't agree and requests the item back it has been returned either broken or miss packaged, perhaps in an attempt to cover up damage that they have caused and so the blame is pushed onto Postie.

Hey Jake. I sold a Blackberry with sliding touch screen (Torch) on eBay once. Had it returned and the sliding screen had obviously been removed and replaced. I'm guessing a dodgy mobile phone repair company uses a separate buyer account to rip us off knowing full well they'll get a refund and a new screen. I doubt that screen was broken in the post, it was likely to have been swapped out and then posted in a crappy bubble envelope to make it look like damage in the post. They now have the nice box and charger too which they probably didn't get when someone brought a broken iPhone into their shop for repair or sale. Sorry this happened. It happens to buyers too. Now when I buy I record the I boxing of the item until i know it's as described. When selling I video it being packaged and where required in working order. Mobiles are notorious for this scam. Net time take it into Carphone Warehouse or a highstreet store of some kind like cash converters. Not worth the stress but thx 4 sharing

Stories like this one (and there are many) are why I’m so very reluctant to sell anything on eBay. This is also why I’m very reluctant to ask for a refund on eBay unless the item is clearly wrong, broken or otherwise unusable. I know how difficult is is for sellers on eBay given eBay’s policy of bias toward buyers and I want to be fair! Even then I’d rather resolve it with the seller directly. To be sure there are dishonest and very ignorant sellers on eBay misrepresenting what they are selling but I’m sure there are far more dishonest buyers. BTW you were much more calm than I would have been!

I sold a radar detector with accessories. Buyer threatened me with poor feedback saying it was broken and serial number was missing (despite pictures I posted of the item I sold) so i returned his money immediately, even before he returned the item. Big mistake! I complained to Ebay. They sided with the buyer, despite the fact that I provided evidence that the buyer sold radar detectors for a living and there was no evidence that the buyer returned the item. Like many others have said in their comments here, I won't sell on Ebay any more. .

Classic misdirection. The big corporations make the rules in partnership with government. You had an item returned to you by a person who might have been A) a bit thick B) a bit dishonest C) total scammer. It makes no difference, your business may not be able to absorb that loss, but a big corporation will. I don't see it as a conspiracy, just that the rules are always made from the interests of the powerful.

This clearly is the case. I was wondering if anybody would draw that parallel. It's clearly all about money, follow the money! Anytime eBay changes rules, or does anything it's all about their bottom line. They can afford to lose the sellers. People don't realize that, and a lot of sellers will not leave they just mark it up as a loss. It makes me feel helpless because when you sell another venues you can see the scammers coming from a mile away and you can do something about it! Ebay takes away your power! Sometimes the seller gets a break, but it's at eBay sent cost. I guarantee you those people are trained to not side with the seller because they've already decided with the buyer now that means is going to come out of their bottom line not the seller or the buyer's! I feel the frustration of these people as I read this I have been able to avoid scammers by selling locally, I'm just biting the bullet and waiting for it to happen to me!

Their flawed policies need taking to court. What they actually do is override a seller's statutory rights in favour of the buyer. Take them to court. Their judgement is always based on the benefit of the doubt and not on the facts. This is why you need to make a claim against them in County Court. There is a small cost in this which if you win you can claim costs and expenses. I will do this myself in the knowledge that I can get help for the costs via my Pension Credits. But even so, they need to be taken to court. I'm going through this at the moment. If Ebay wish to aid buyer scammers then they have to pay for it. My first visit will be to the Citizens Advice Centre and will ask them to help me with the forms.

I actually as a seller one a case where the person who bought from me tried to claim the items weren't as described. I sold 3 Wii video games, clearly stating that they were NTSC and in order to play here in Australia, that the console which we have as PAL would need to be able to play these games (and lets face a lot of people have modded consoles - which is why I had them, but no longer wanted to play these games!)
So I listed the games, and they got bid on by more than one bidder - and the final bidder who I sold them too, a few days after sending I got a message from them, saying the games don't work and I want my money back now!
I replied very politely to them, that these games are NTSC and it was stated 3 times in the listing that a console that played these games would be required. He replied back saying, I shouldn't be selling games that can't be played on a console here in Australia, and wanted his money back. Again I advised him politely, that he failed to read the description of the listing correctly and it was therefore his mistake on this and I would not be offering him a refund. So he opens a case as item as not described. I got straight on the phone to eBay, as this meant whilst it was investigated my PayPal account got a negative balance, and I could not buy any items on eBay myself until that negative was rectified. eBay looked into the case, whilst speaking with me on the phone, and said that it will most likely go in my favour, as it was quite clear that I listed the games correctly and clearly stated in the decsription and also the part where the drop down menus are for ratings etc; that this was a NTSC format and as such need that region console.
In the end, I was awarded the right to not pay for items not as described, and the buyer if he were to leave any negative feedback on my account; I was to contact eBay and they would remove it. He never did leave feedback, for the record!!! Guess he was pissed off that he hadn't won the case!!

Ebay has screwed me several times in the past couple of years of light use. I'm done with them. People order the wrong part, then I have to pay shipping for them to return it. Others will initiate a return, never return the item, and Ebay will still issue them a full refund. Another case was the buyer decided he didn't want an item, even though "no refunds" was checked and it worked perfectly. I again had to pay shipping both ways which was about what the thing cost. Total waste of time, big items or small.
The ONLY way I would use them would be on bigger items where the payment is in cash or a method Paypal/Ebay does not control. (Bank check issued in person at their bank). Ebay cannot be trusted and has gone insane with their policies.

I've had the exact same issue with a computer that I sold on ebay. The idiot bought a computer from me, received it, left positive feedback on my page, and then 27 days later claims that it had arrived broken. The damage caused to the display was 100% customer induced. He keeps saying "It was for daughter birthday, and you ruin my daughter birthday because you sent defective item to me." First of all, how's that my fault that your "Daughter-birthday" was ruined? (I know he's lying, I'm just making a point) because everyone knows to CHECK the quality of an item you purchased online right as it arrives. It would be YOUR FAULT for not checking on your daughter's birthday present prior to her birthday. (If he actually does have a daughter that is reading this some day, you poor, poor soul, I feel so bad that you lived with such a crook.) Now, if the buyer didn't leave positive feedback in the first place, and leave such obviously false claims that caused me to ROFL, and THEN claimed that the item had arrived broken, i'd be WAY less hesitant in acknowledging this case than I've been for the past 3 days this case has been open (but of course I'd still probably not accept the return, nor help the buyer with his own expensive mistake.) This was his claim, but I know they did in fact open the package and induce the damage themselves. Honestly, if the buyer was honest in the first place that he sat on the $100 LCD panel, then i'd be treating him as if he were actually a valued customer. Wish me luck on winning my justice!!! eBay seller protection has let me down every time, just give me a chance!! Hope y'all found this helpful...Dr. Jake, you've just earned a new subscriber. Interesting - my wife had the complete opposite experience as a buyer last year. She bought a wall clock on eBay which was specifically described as "silent" (she's sensitive to the sound of ticking clocks and hates the noise). But when the clock arrived, it was ticking quite loudly, and she lodged a dispute with eBay.
The seller was belligerent and argued every step of the way in the dispute process. eBay didn't want to get involved, and she only got a small refund for the item, which she accepted as she was so frustrated with the lack of honesty and logic from both eBay and the seller. We replaced the clock mechanism with a silent one, and it's all OK now. But still a lot of frustration.

After a long hiatus I came back to Ebay a few weeks ago to sell some computer components which I do no longer use. I have built computers for the last 10 years or so, so I am pretty experienced when it comes to putting systems together. I sold a delidded I7 8700K Intel CPU as an item only to be bought by someone who knew what they were doing. In fact, the whole description I made sure that the buyer knew that putting the item together (putting the metal liquid paste back on the die) is an intricate process so unless you know what you are doing, please just go and buy a fully glued/non-delidded CPU.
Delidded CPU's are sort of like a tech delicacy/niche product as they are an overclockers dream. Many places charge a premium for these de-lidded CPU's, but instead I sold it for a very good price, way under the retail price. The person bought the item and literally within the same day of receiving the item they requested a return as the item was not as described and they could tell the item was 'damaged before even trying to use it'. They said it was loose and that the lid was not glued to the die. I frustratingly replied 'what did you expect? I sold you a delidded CPU, you are supposed to glue it together yourself just like what I stated in the description, please read it again'. Regardless, the buyer closed the case with a 'I see, case closed' message sent to me.
A week later they have now opened up a PayPal case stating the item is damaged/not as described and repeating the same 'it was loose, not glued' drivel he tried a week earlier on Ebay. Their English is broken and find it hard to understand their messages so PayPal are now reviewing the problem. I have given them proof that he tried to claim the same thing earlier with Ebay and closed the case (including the messages). I guess they will most probably side with the buyer but who knows we will see. A probable £270.00 down the drain.
Also what is bugging me the most is that the buyer is selling a brand new item on his page, specifically a PC he has built with a de-lidded 8700K inside it! I am positive he is trying to scam me. Maybe he wanted a partial refund and tried to scare me. whatever the case we will see.

Recently I had a problem with a buyer, sold a camera. Delivery guys posted it in a paper bin, she claimed she couldn't find it. So contacted Shutl, got £25 compensation for the loss. Only thing was, never heard back from the lady, suspect she was trying to pull a fast one after seeking advice on a forum. So I got the original price and the £25, for once I lucked out as I've been bitten by not getting a certificate of posting in the past and having a loss. Guess these things all even out in the end.

I heard another guy film the packaging process and unpacking (return process) start to finish. This is the only way to cover your ***. This is important for high priced items.
I'm strictly a buyer and can vouch most sellers are honest. But some try to scam us and that's why Ebay is so uncooperative towards sellers. I have had buyers send me items that were "opened box but not used" that were clearly used or items that they try to pass off as the item in the photo that are similar but different. The buyer doesn't get bulk shipping rates either. So dishonest sellers can cause buyers a lot of grief.
It's scammers out there that hurt both the buyers and sellers.

I'm absolutely fed up with Ebay too. Stopped selling about 2 years ago and will never sell on Ebay again. They insert themselves in the transaction as the great arbitrators and its all crap. I wont put myself in that loser situation ever again. When I stopped selling they sent me jnducements for 'growing my business' which they interfered with, but after several months they gave up.

nope. the buyer has attempted and demanded i send him a shipping label to return the product i sold to him - so i thought for sure ebay would be on my side with the case. they also said it wouldn't hurt my account, yet it went right to my defects + left my only negative feedback after 110 sales ... eBay should treat sellers as if we are colleagues because we do pretty much work for eBay as they automatically get insertion fees - sounds about right lol

My thing is with these Ebay buyers, the ones who wants to scam to the sellers. Take photos of the items before sending them out. If the items returns different, you can dispute with the Ebay bosses. Tell them that the items you sent was different. or better still, shut down the paypal account.

I have had a very similar situation today, I sold a first generation iPad. Clearly listed as what it was with full description. The first generation iPad can only be updated to a certain iOS and I put that clearly in my description as well as saying new apps may not work if they need a higher iOS. Day after the buyer receives it she starts a case saying it's defective saying it can't update or download new apps, as well as saying I gave misleading information and her kid is very upset. I contacted eBay who told me to accept the return and they will refund me for the postage label I will have to send to the buyer. So fair enough I did what they said. I'll sell it again if/once I get it back. Beware of these stupid dumb buyers people! It's like buying a ton of bricks and then complaining it's not a house. You can't just buy something and expect it does more because you're too stupid to understand what you are buying, then be a arse and blame the seller.

Almost the same thing happened to me last week. I listed a psp for $100 , a guy offered me $80 and I took it. It was in excellent condition with 2 games and a movie, had been sitting in a box for years and looked beautiful. I tested it, fully charged it, boxed it up after I listed it and the sale occurred 6 months later.
Anyway, I 2-day it to the guy and don't here from him for 21 days, then he messages me saying he just opened the box and found the PSP inside "broken " with green paint and glued together.
I told the guy thats not how I sent it, that cant be the same unit. He then opens a return request and gives me negative feedback saying I bait and switched him. Ebay sided with him, despite the pictures of my item versus his and refunded him. The psp is on the way back to me now and I expect to find a pile of junk and none of the games or accessories.

I just got scammed as a buyer on eBay. The seller seemed to have done something fairly ingenious. Once I paid they ordered a cheap item off Amazon shipped though UPS. They shipped it to a real address in my town with a name on it that wasn't mine. UPS gave them the tracking number for the dummy item and they inputted that into my eBay purchase like it was legit. The dummy package was delivered to someone in town and the tracking updated on eBay. When I disputed it eBay only looked at the tracking number, the information said it was delivered in my town. The seller pockets the difference between what I bought and the dummy product. UPS and Amazon will not give you any information about packages unless the information you give them matches the package so you will never know what was actually sent or where it actually went to. The scammer gets to hide under policy and there isn't much understanding about this scam. At least they don't seem to recognize what is going on. I lost the initial claim but I am appealing it. the only scraps of proof I have are small but point to what is going on. I hope they will listen to me.

what don't make any sense to me is why ebay sides mostly with the buyers instead of being fair 50/.50 with the sellers. i do understand that the buyers bring in the money, but so does the sellers, the fees get taken out the seller on both ends of ebay and paypal, which we all know the ppl that own ebay own paypal too. If there were no sellers there would be no buyers, so why would ebay operate in this way? i suppose they fear the decline in popularity and less ppl would consider even visiting there site. but what if sellers were to do the same. either way this is really a 50/50 relationship in commerce, ideally ebay would be trying to hit those numbers because that would benefit them more then anything. so i am going to take a stab and say it has nothing to do with being right or wrong , and has more to do with how much money u bringing in through ebay. and what is the buyer and seller ratio look like between both sellers and buyers. based on that information they keep the bigger fish happy, because they bring in more money and/or the ratio from buyer/seller is less in there favor making them more valuable. that is what i believe is going on with ebay, to them its just business who cares about right or wrong, but shhhh don't let anyone know that.

I recently listed 2 brand new pairs of the same Sorel Slimpack Riding Sample Boots. Both were listed for auction at $75 with an option of a Buy It Now price for $175. 1 pair sold instantly and the other pair went through the auction. The auction ended for $345USD. The Buyer paid and received the boots. The Buyer contacted me saying there was a loose stitch on the strap after wearing it for the day and asked what she can do to fix. I was surprised to find out it was loose stitch as it was perfect condition when I sent the boots out, I have photos during the auction to prove the buckles were fine. But I explained to her it is an easy fix if it is true, she asked for a compensation. I offered $5 for a loose stitch.Instead she opened a dispute in the morning and requested a full refund because of the stitch and because it was a Sample boots (which however in my listing it is listed clearly that they are sample boots). During the back and forth conversation she admit the fact she found similar pair of boots on Amazon for $150 and also mentioned I sold my other pair of the same boots for $175. She felt she overpaid for my boots. But the point is, this Buyer had the option to not bid, just buy from Amazon. Through a lot of explaining I offered her $20 as compensation, she declined. So I finally asked what she wants. She wants $220 compensation which brings the boots done to the value of $125. In this way, she can get the boots for lower than Amazon and what I was willing to sell for in the Buy It Now.These boots sold on eBay for an average of $250 USD (new) through history.I tried to work with the Buyer to come to an agreement, but asking for $220 is way too unreasonable. I tried to offer the Buyer $100 as compensation, which is more than enough to fix a loose stitch on the buckle professionally. I know from heart and God knows, the boots were in perfect condition before I shipped them out as I have photos of the condition of the boots. I contacted eBay Representatives at several times to see what I can do because I have proof and also the boots are wore and also the Buyer fully admit the fact she found a better deal on Amazon and found that she overpaid me for my boots and she want to return by using the loose stitch and the fact my boots are Sample boots.Last night, I spoke with this eBay Representative called Arriel, she claims to be the highest possible person I am able to speak with. The Buyer opened the dispute as my product being a defect/not as described, therefore the eBay Money Back Guarantee will indefinitely favour her side and I will be forced to accept the return even though during the dispute conversation the Buyer full out admits she felt like she overpaid and she found a cheaper pair and she want to send the boots back to me. This is truly a Remorse Return because admitting this fact, but "Arriel" said it does not matter what the Buyer said during the conversation, the most important thing is she opened the case as defect/not as described. It does not matter even I have the photos of the condition of the boots before I shipped the boots out.Basically, the Buyer can receive the boots, wear it or purposely cause a damage to get a full refund and eBay will approve the return. Arriel replied that the Buyer gets the benefit of the doubt. And no matter what, it will indefinitely rule in this Buyer's favour. And even the Buyer said she wore the boots, because it was wore once, not a lot or all the time, therefore eBay will still consider the boots to be in the same condition it was sent by the Seller. Thank you for doing business with eBay and have a good evening. This is not the same condition, the boots are used, I cannot even list it as New at all. My value of my product goes down. Arriel answered me, every business will expect some losts. My goodness! After this conversation I realize, there is really no point in trying to work out with Buyers for Sellers in general, because no matter what, once the Buyer files defect/not as described dispute, it is guarantee a LOST FOR ALL SELLERS("All Sellers, your business should expect some lost." This is directly from Arriel from the highest possible eBay Representative that deals with eBay Claims, Disputes and she claims she is the one who has the power to re-open cases and file appeals.)How can the Sellers survive? We, as Sellers suffer so much. We work hard providing good customer service and spending time listing, taking our time to package our products, and going to a post office no matter what the weather is like outside just to make a few dollars. Our hard earn money are swindled from us from a simple eBay Money Back Guarantee where eBay falsely assures us, the Sellers, that they will investigate and then decide to rule in the Buyer's favour no matter what.I found out from my experience from the mouth of Arriel, the highest possible eBay Representative in Claims and Disputes that it is indefinitely in favour of the Buyer. They do not care what evidence there is provided from Sellers. And Sellers, all business will expect some lost. Thank you for doing business with eBay and have a good evening. This conversation with Arriel was on February 19th 2018 at 21:45 (EST)I wish all eBay Sellers can bond together and fight against this eBay Money Back Scam.
I hope my story can touch many other people and we can create an union and try and voice to EBAY. Me, myself is not enough. All together, we can be stronger and make a difference to protect us, the eBay Sellers.
Thank you,Mona Ip from United States (an eBay member since 2009)

When I started a case against a scamming seller, a supervisor at PayPal told me the money would be refunded within 48 hours. I waited and waited some more but never received any refund. When I called PayPal again I was told the supervisor never said that. Then they had me jump through all kinds of hoops and send pictures, etc. I did everything they asked. Somehow, someway, the seller got away with scamming me since PayPal sided with them. So I am left with a purchase that is missing half its parts. I have ZERO negatives. Seller has over 300 negatives. One of those negatives was mine but it has magically disappeared. Funny thing is that it appears she must have a friend at PayPal. I provided all the proofs. I got nothing.

Maybe this is the reason only few of my buyers wanted a return, and only a couple of them were acting suspiciously. I asked her if this was my package or maybe a different seller. She immediately filed with eBay for a return. i checked the tracking and my package hadn’t been delivered yet! About two hours later, while I was on the phone with eBay, the package was delivered and she sent a picture of the label to prove it was from me. Now eBay can see every message and picture sent through their site. the package was unopened. I won that one.lol. There are new seller protections going in effect in October 2019. Very similar story to mine. I sold a used intel 3570k that was in perfect condition and a scammer in Kazakhstan got the winning bid at about 60 euro. It was a bargain for him because I had it in its original box with supplied cooler very safely packaged with anti static bag and all. His profile was only 10 days old. That was my first mistake, I should have had buyer restrictions turned on to deny bids from someone with no feedback. It can be set that anyone with less than 5 feedback cant bid. I knew from the start there would be problems so I photographed everything while packaging. Then 2 weeks later the buyer kept saying it never arrived but my tracking stated it was in the post office for collection, and eventually after several emails of me telling him just go down and get it and when he did go and get it he said it wasn't working. Every time he would send emails in Russian and I had to translate all the time, I eventually stopped translating for him. He sent a photo of the cooler and he had cut a cable on it. Then he stated item wasn't as described. Ebay let me down completely and closed the case in the buyers favour. The next step was to pay for returning the item but I didn't do that because I knew he would just send back the blown chip he was replacing. In the end up his money was refunded and he got a free cpu. I upped the number of countries I wont post to since.

I realize this is an old video, but when eBay said they had no way to prove it wasn't smashed, they did have a way to prove that. The buyer's correspondence with you admitted that the item wasn't smashed when they used it.
Also, that probably wasn't the same phone you sold them. They probably sent you back their iPhone with a cracked screen.

Matter of fact, if you tell eBay, that you'll take this case to police or court on the phone, eBay thinks twice about following their buyer bias. In the end, the laws of the country you live in prevail.
Just signaling, that you'll go all the way in this case tells eBay, that you're very sure. Is it worth the time? YES, because otherwise, you're just teaching them they can get away with it.

Hello Dr Jake. Very interesting to hear your EBAY musings. I too have had similar problems to you and your "commenters". I was beginning to think it was just "me" that EBAY was plotting against. The system is deeply flawed and stacked mostly in favour of the buyer. But even as a buyer you can still get "Conned". If, as a buyer of items listed "for parts" you have no recourse against the seller whatsoever. Even when you receive goods that are not as stated in the listing. EBAY will side with the seller, purely on the basis that the item is under the "for parts" heading. So buyers of "for parts" items be extra cautious when buying.

I've heard so many stories like this and as a seller (and buyer) it really disappoints me that Ebay do not care for their sellers better. After all..without us...they wouldn't be as rich as they are. They only experience I've had with a buyer so far was an international sale where the buyer claimed the item never arrived and wanted a refund. As our postal system does not have tracking on standard overseas rates, I think the buyer took advantage of this. To this day I DO NOT believe that this item went missing yet I had no option but to refund. It hurt. I know how frustrated you feel, I think we've all been there. Most of us sellers are not million dollar companies that can afford endless refund...I too wish Ebay would listen. They will....when they have no more sellers. Sad.

This is the wording a buyer used to me when returning a item. "What's the point in complaining? I can complain directly through negative feedback but rather just get my money back without much fuzz" I would consider it a off handed threat. I allowed returns on the item, but did not realize the buyer can return for any reason regardless. My bad. After two weeks it is pretty clear the buyer's purpose is to get a rental free lens. I have yet to receive the item. I hope it comes back to me without issue.

I've had good reconciliation with eBay. I also try not to sell items over a certain amount, since it can attract scammers or those with buyer's remorse.
I think it should be in the return policy that returned item should include all accessories, and that fragile items should be returned in padded envelope or bubble wrap.
Essentially, all returns should be in the same condition received and should be packaged in a manner to ensure that it's protected from damage during transit.

Sorry Bro! Been there done that and I HATE IT when buyers return the items without original packaging or all messed up etc. Just drives me crazy. That's why I don't sell electronics anymore except for old school video game consoles for repair or parts. I only sell shit that's black and white now. Can't really return something that's either this or that and simple.

I would have said i did not receive the correct item. My item was in a certain condition and with certain things along with it. So this is therefore, not my item.

You have surmised correctly about EBAY. It is totally driven by the buyer experience and not wanting to discourage buyers from making purchases. I have sold many items on EBAY and have 100% positive feedback, but if a buyer is dissatisfied, EBAY will issue a refund without considering the seller's perspective AND the seller can only leave positive feedback for the buyer. If you try to leave a negative comment under a positive feedback, EBAY removes the comment and sends you a warning. I sold a medal to a woman who cleaned it with metal cleaner and then wanted to return it. I explained that I accept returns for any reason or no reason, as long as the item is in its original condition. Any collector of coins or medals knows that if you clean it with a metal cleaner, you have altered the surface and devalued the item. I refused to allow her to return the item. She filed a case with EBAY and they told her to return the item and send EBAY a picture of the return label and they would issue a refund to her, which they did. She left me negative feedback, stating that I was an unethical seller because the medal was not silver but a base metal, which was not true. I coujld only respond to her negative feedback comments. I tried to leave a negative comment under leaving a positive feedback (the only choice a seller has) but EBAY removed it and warned me. I seriously considered cancelling my EBAY account but there is no serious online alternative. When someone creates a serious alternative to EBAY, I will leave for good.

an exactly same situation with me, I've sold an Alarm with Ladies handbag and when buyer received the package straigh a way raised a claim that they only received Handbag and not the alarm so, want to return the item.... I thought picture of packing item and sticking label on parcel will be your strongest evidence to back yourself in case buyer claim that parts is missing... well, buyer used paid return label on me an return the Handbag only and eBay straight a way refunded the buyer... the more frustrating thing is when I called to appeal the case they categorically denied me to put the appeal on the case but promised me to refund the return postage cost and remove defects from my account but even after 24 hours I didn't receive any sort of confirmation of postage refund I rang eBay again and this time an eBay rep. told me off in very humiliating voice that you heard it wrong and you won't get anything back... the item is returned back to you and it's tracking detials backs it so, I should not waste my time on this case....

I do agree that it is wrong when someone wrongly files for the money back guarantee. However, I ordered a jersey on there that had been described as an authentic one, but was really a fake. The material was absolute crap, and it probably would have fallen apart after a short amount of time, so I did file for the money back, because the item truly was not as described.

And that is Lao a necessary thing to do. I’ve been scammed by sellers several times but I don’t buy expensive items on eBay for that very reason and I’m not selling anything past a certain value either because I can’t afford to. It’s all suck bs that the bad apples are ruining a good opportunity for everyone.

once an item has been used, or in your case taken to a shop to be fixed the sale is considered done! as long as it is in your communications between each other through ebay mail. i had a buyer use an item and ask for a return saying it broke after she used it for a few weeks, ebay said she used it and broke it because it and that would not be considered returned in the same condition as i had sent it. fyi i have been selling on ebay since it started this year has been the worst for buyers scamming me sending back empty returns or used items that were sent new. i have even gotten an item returned that was new with tags, returned washed!!!! wtf????

eBay is not a completely ideal platform for buyers either because we are constantly being scammed and eBay's policy only covers 30days which while is a seemingly long period of time, is actually quite short considering the fact postage can be held up for longer than that. Because of this, the 30 day policy can easily be rendered useless if the buyer believes the postage will arrive.

I also don’t sell high value items on eBay because of this very thing. Being in the uk selling platforms are few and far between, gumtree is rubbish, I don’t do Facebook, shpock is local only, preloved is pretty much limited items and local too in the main and because you have no recourse with either gumtree or preloved for selling or buying long distance there is no one to complain to or get a refund from. Best to buy and sell high end items locally so that both are face to face and can see item and show item in working condition.

For Expensive items, make a video of you packaging it with the tracking number, make a video of you opening the return. bit of a drag I know but Ebay will side with you if you have this done. I know of a few people have gotten money back off Ebay but the buyer gets away scott free. Ebay will block them if you do this.

Great vids on ebay! I had a guy say item was not as described, and asked for 50% refund, and he'd keep the item. I said nope, just send it back. He had a hissy fit, but sent it back. He was just trying to get it for half off. Months later I got an email from another seller saying he did the same thing to him, and that the guys account was closed on eBay.

I don't know if it would be helpful to photograph the item and accessory contents, to document what is being sold, and informing the buyer that you have taken this step to protect both parties. There remains the matter of whether an electronic device is in the working condition in the description. It is a shame that either incompetent or unscrupulous people are out there to cheat people out of their money. But eBay needs to take a closer look at this transaction policy in light of what has happened here and to others, not being a unique case.

I recently had an issue with a seller on eBay, I othered a driver for my LCD Monitor, when it arrived I plugged it in and the thing caught fire.. So now I am thinking was this a faulty item I have been sent? I am currently in the process of trying for a refund as I had the item no more than five minutes and it caught fire the second I plugged it in. In this case, will I get a refund? and am I in charge of paying the postage to send it back? I've sent the seller photos of the damaged product, I jumped right to it the second it happened, I don't want to risk not being issued a refund as it was a faulty product

I just filed for a refund on a smartwatch because the item was listed as "Great working condition" nothing else was stated about its condition and it had burn in, on two spots of the screen that dosent go away.
Seller dosent allow returns but after i bought the item and paid for it the buyer stopped responding to my message, because i had forgot my apartment on the shipping. So i dont feel too bad about trying to get a refund.

I was selling accessories for electronic devices. I shipped every item with tracking information and my profit margin was almost nothing just to keep the price low and get some sales. I got a lots of refund request with the claim "didn't recieve" eventho I shipped with real tracking numbers. Ebay just took my money and refunded the buyers... That's illegal. Because I included the tracking numbers to each order... and the tracking numbers showed that every product arrived.
I was in the negatives. Or on the better days I had a profit of 1 dollar. It was just stress and anger. I stopped selling on ebay. Won't go back.
