A much more simple way to smoke test is to buy a cheap AC / DC air pump (normally for filling air mattresses). They come with different size nozzles. The input side you use a cigar, the output a piece of hose to a vacuum line. Turn the pump on and watch for where the smoke comes out and there you are. Cost like $10. Works perfectly and it is instant.
@@WarMachine550 No jar needed. The cigar goes in the intake side of the air mattress pump. Light the cigar, turn on the pump and the smoke will come out of the output side of the pump. The output side is where you attach the hose to the pump. The other end of the hose would go to a vacuum line. It is ideal for the purpose. Quicker, cheaper, no fuss way to find a vacuum leak. No jars, no baby oil, no soldering iron, no burning rags. Most pumps will have both, AC power cord and 12 volt cords with spring clips to get power from the cars battery.
where can we go and do one of these smoke tests at? I got that stupid P0443 Evap leak code & I gotta pass the Emissions air test here in Garbage Chicago
Nice. I've got everything needed here. Was about to buy one on Amazon for $200. Hopefully I'll just have to use it once. So I really didn't want to spend the money.
@@BuddysDIY Is it okay with you if i share a link with you of a video i filmed of me performing a smoke test? It will show where the smoke is coming out from.
Nice video. I'm going to make a one time use smoker. I'm thinking a metal can, like a paint can, or coffee can. Put a "smoke bomb", or "snakes" (cheap fireworks) in the can. Put the can in a five gallon plastic bucket, and drill two holes in the lid like he did in the video. Put a couple of bricks on the bottom of the bucket, put the pail on the bricks in the bucket, light the firework, cover the lid, and same thing.
2024 Bought all the parts for around 20 USD from Temu including: 60 watt soldering iron kit (2 USD), 20 watt mini hot glue gun (3 USD), Multi-use siphon fuel transfer pump kit with 2 red and black hoses (9 USD), Brass double-headed pagoda connectors (2 USD), 100 Non toxic hot glue gun glue sticks (4 USD). Already have: glass pickle jar, drill, baby oil from brother, and sleeve from old shirt.
if hose is slightly bigger than double-headed pagoda connectors, what is better to make that seal, using heat shrink tubing over area to be tightened or will a zip tie be adequate?
I made this and it worked great. I was able to replace a part that was leaking pretty bad. i tested it again with no leaks, but i still have close to 0 vacuum when i test it. does anyone know what else it could be??
I made this. Doesn’t seem to produce much smoke at all. I might modify it. If I can’t, it’s going in the trash. It seems like the heating element needs more surface area to produce ample smoke.
I wouldn't recommend it. It is not really cheap by comparison to a manufactured one and most of all not safe or storable. If the jar falls then or if the soldering iron gets too hot for your application. Besides, there is no alarm or protection. You can buy one for $50 box with all standard accessories, bells and whistle in a properly designed packaging.
Yes the oil creates coating on the rag that essentially turns it into a wick. More smoke, slower burn, no real pressure from heat that could explode any of your components.
Mineral oil is cheaper with no perfume added. I used a cheap low volume aquarium air pump from Amazon for $6.71. Gives steady smoke so I can search with both hands free and find any hiding place.
@@Kjellos RUclips removes responses with links away from here. Amazon has one titled: Tetra Whisper Easy to Use Air Pump for Aquariums for up to 10 gallons for $5. 🤣🤣🤣 sorry but I had to

I made one of these. Connected a regulator to it so I could use air from my air compressor. Puts out a lot of smoke and works great.
Why use hot glue (that can melt from soldering iron temps) instead of jb weld?
You really deserve more publicity
Greatness to come on the channel homie!

So you just put a cigar in the jar instead

Awesome video I’m going make one thank you
Good luck brother!
I checked under my brother's bed...nothing, so as a last resort I checked under my bed...yay all's good, thanks for the advise.
Thanks to this video; I found my oil.
Clear, consice with no theatrics. Bravo.
How well did the hot melt glue hold up around the solder iron?
Pretty clever smoke tool!

Your intro should be “what’s up every buddy”
It is lol. Check my last video. It's up in txt 🤣
Don't use a Harbor Freight soldering iron, they are hollow and smoke will leak through the soldering iron
Great video my brother and nice to meet you as well for the first time, what does it mean if theres smoke coming out from the oil cap?
Depend how much. If there is alot then that's not a good sign. But a light smoke is normal!

How do you know if this produces . 2 psi
Would it be possible to use smoke bombs instead of mineral oil, rags and a soldering iron?
Probably best to use the cleanest smoke you can so you don't contaminate your engine with unnecessary particles
Great video. I Got lucky I found the baby oil and the socks under my brothers bed.
To make things a lot easier. Put a cigar in the suction part of the tube and start pumping
Bought that same pump a week ago and used a cigar. Beat me to the video. 😞

Wow, that's genius

Cigars cost more than the life of a baby oil bottle, and are an exposed ashy flame source that might cost you a large insurance claim.
Thanks so much for the video...and the baby oil joke lol. I can't wait to try it.

What part are you referring to?
Instead of the electrical device could you just put incense in it and light it it. Up?
Good video, you forgot to open the throttle blade tho so not sure how much actually got inside
I bought this crazy thing from eBay for $15 that uses a cigar. I haven't tried it out yet because I have to buy a cigar.
🤣🤣🤣

Stick a cigar in the vacuum end of that pump and you don’t need the jar, soldering iron, baby oil or sock.
Throw in a car flipping vid every now and then
More to come I promise!
U can find baby oil at diddys house
Awesome video. But you missed the opportunity to make the joke about not using a sock from under your brothers bed. lmao
Nice. Beats paying several hundred dollars for one. Thanks for the quick, concise tutorial.
I made one just like you did and mines not making any smoke. Any reason why?

Cuz when you pronounce "s" its just make super loud S sound
sorry about that! ill lok into fixing that
