    it’s my birth stone! I didn’t know opal has many colors. Most of my life I thought it’s just transparent white. Thank you Andrew for this video!

    The Sea of Opal is stunning it reminds me of that famous photograph by the Hubble Telescope of the Pillars of Creation. I find that Opal just mesmerising and the fact that it’s still embedded in other materials just adds to the effect.

      They might be cracking because
      Of not having enough moisture
      Try not to wear it while bathing
      The soap dries out the stone
      Rub oil into the stone
      Keep it hydrated
      Especially if u go from a warm home
      To the cold weather outside
      U might hear a Crack when u go outside
      So be good to your opals

      @@AndrewPidor But of course Andrew! Always!! I've been looking for a copy of the Jubilee Ruby ring, nothing. A real problem is that even in the same basic round setting these copy rings have nine prongs, not six, amazing what a difference that makes in the look of the ring. Hopefully I'll find one someday soon! Be well & have fun!!

    Great video showcasing some stunning gemstones, I was unaware of a number of them but I knew of the 'Eternal Flame' from growing up in the area where it was found only a short 15min drive away. It was certainly a gift from the volcano that is now known as Mount Warning (or at least the volcano plug is).

    When I took gemology an opal dealer came to our class. He had with him at least 2 million dollars of opals. The most beautiful opals I’ve ever seen. Should have robbed him when he left! Just kidding! The black opals he had were incredible!

    Only my opinion of course, but for me, they have to be shaped and polished. Beautiful as they may be, lumps of rock don’t do it for me. The finished ones however…..fabulous.

    The Virgin rainbow,so the story goes was actually found by someone else and he sold it to john and his partner for a pittance for what they got for it,as opal is like a bag of unknown lollies you dont know what you are getting until you take away the layer of dirt

    You need to soak opals in water every now and then otherwise they will dry out, lose colour and crack.
