Irkutsk is an ancient city in Russia, located in the east of Siberia, in the picturesque valley of the Angara River. It is the administrative center of the Irkutsk region and the district of the same name, one of the most developed cities in the economic, cultural and scientific spheres of the East Siberian region.
Irkutsk is one of the Siberian cities where the old layout and buildings have been preserved. There are over 680 monuments of history and culture, including churches, monasteries, merchant "lace" houses, stone and wooden estates. The city has several thematic tours, and its historic center is included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
