I'm proud because i'm Romanian. 2000 years ago Roma send in Dacian Empire (actually teritory of Romania) the XIII Legion Gemina. After Roman conquest many Dacian served in that great Legion and died for Rome. The name Romania came from Roma. We are grand grand grand sons of Roma and Dacia. Glory to Roma and Dacia!!!

Not true. The fathers of wester civilization, from whom also Romans culture came out, are the proto-indo-europeans. They came from Eurasian plains and flooded Europe mixing themselves with the local ancient agricultureres and gave birth to our languages, folklore, genetics, traditions, many values and to pagan religions.
(Then, ethnologically speaking, modern languages and cultures were born in the Middle Ages and are strongly related to Germanic Peoples who conditioned the Middle Ages the most and still are the ones with the highest proto-indo-european genetic heritage.)

Rome ≠ Italy lol Firstly "Italians" aren't a single people but they're many populations with different genetic heritages. If you take Lombards, for example, they almost have no traces of Roman DNA, but instead they bear with them Celtic and Langobardic genes. Another thing is that Italy under Roman rule wasn't a homogeneous reality: Romans expanded their domains over the other italic peoples and the Celts in the North but they just ruled them. The only Romans who lived in those areas were aristocrats who had the job of ensuring Roman power over those lands. Many of them later mixed themselves with local nobilties, but still the common people weren't Romans. They didn't even spoke Latin. To get back to the Lombard example, Cisalpine Gauls (the Celtic peoples who lived in the Po valley) after being annexed by the Romans still continued speaking Gaulish and even developed their own alphabets, like the Lugano alphabet. Italy isn't a historical nation, it's just a recent phenomena.

+Mike Litorius Sorry for the long reply time but what I meant was how the Byzantine Empire broke from Rome's Pagan beliefs for Christianity, which made it it's own empire. Sure they called them selves Romans at first, but they slowly turned Islamic and eventually turned into the Ottoman Empire.

    • @RiflemanXboz180
      @RiflemanXboz180 8 лет назад +1

Franz Ferdinand They were descended from the eastern Roman empire. At no point was their a huge takeover that changed the eastern Roman empire (or Byzantine empire) until the Ottomans came into power in the 15th century. Byzantine empire was a different name for classical era Rome and medieval. Rome the city fell however what she controlled and made in her time didn't until a millennia's time had past. The east and the west didn't split because of religion either. It was due to the size of rome. It wouldn't make sense to say they "broke off from Rome's pagan beliefs to make the Byzantine empire" when they didn't break off, and by the time they became the Byzantines rome was already Christian.

***** Well, that quotation only appeared once in all the roman history, Suetonius wrote it in his biography of emperor Claudius, the complete thing was like it:
When Claudius ordered to drain the river Fucino, before doing it was celebrated a Naumaquia (Gladiators), and the Gladiators said to the emperor: "Ave Caesar, morituri the salutant", but Claudius said "Aut non!", so the gladiators understood that he didn't want them to die, so after that they didn't want to fight, and the emperor Claudius was very angry that he almost ordered the execution of the gladiators, but after seeing the emperor's anger, the gladiators finally fought.
      That's what Suetonius wrote.
Tacitus also mentions the same Naumaquia, but he never mentions that quote.

The glory and splendor of Rome has not yet been matched since its fall(Poor Rome and Constantinople, damn you turks). Rome is something, its more than a city. Its an ideal. (Yes I am American but I love history especially European history) Rome is just something that the world needs again. A strong just unifying force. Yes the romans were sometimes brutal however you have to match brutality with brutality sometimes. i'd say the Pax Romana was probably the best period in human history. Majority of the World knew peace and prosperity, in China the Han dynasty was at its zenith then infighting and barbarian invasions ended the Roman Empire and the Han dynasty collapsed as well. Roman ideals and culture(which the greeks helped make) still guide some of the world to this day. Poor Constantine XI, atleast he went down fighting in the streets instead of commiting suicide or running and hiding. Roma Invicta

ever heard of the celts? they were the first people in europe who were able to use iron. the romans copied the mail, their helmets, their swords, their shields. scipio wrote about how the romans captured a celtic smith so he could teach them how they made their swords.
or compare metal works of the la tene culture to roman ones from the same time period.
and hopefully barbarians really have no blood from italy. but i guess after the rapes during roman conquests and then after the new settlers came from all over the empire this is probably not the case anymore. they probably spread quite a lot of west asian dna in northern europe.

Veni , vidi, vici is the Catholic Church's latin.
Roman Latin would have been something like this
      Weni, Widi, Wiki.
Classical latin lacked the v sound. The letter V in fact represents the vowel u. The modern U and W are later inventions. As the Latins pronounced V "you" you can see why W is called "double-you."

in 1871 came the germany union and also for her it is the same speech, the Germans are known by this name since before the Romans and even Germany as a territory despite it has never been united before 1871

To all Fascists / Nazis: The Roman Empire wasn't a racist empire. It wasn't a empire of white people. In the late Roman Empire, countless cultures lived peacefully together. For example: Emperor Septimius Severus, who was born in Libya or Severus Alexander, born in Lebanon. Diokletian, born in Dalmatia, etc.

    • @Navak_
      @Navak_ 6 лет назад

Dalmatia is in Europe and is and was completely Indo-European. Syria and Cyrenaica, though Semitic, are Mediterranean and not that different from European Mediterraneans. Syrians even worshiped the thunder god.
That said, Roman multiculturalism is what ultimately destroyed it. The Roman state was held together by the Roman religion which was undermined first by the allied Italians who did not respect the sanctity of Roman institutions and made a farce of them. By the end of the Republic, nakedly ambitious men like Julius Caesar were able to abuse once-sacred offices and rites like the Pontifex Maximus for political gain. Had the Roman religion not been undermined by the enfranchisement of the allies after the Social War, perhaps such vital institutions as the veto, tribune sacrosanctity, the pomerium, term limits, etc would not have lost prestige to the point they could be ignored by strongmen.
In the wake of the collapse of traditional Roman religion and the Republic with it, Rome had a spiritual vacuum which it filled with bizarre cults from distant lands: Isis from Egypt, Mithras from Persia, Jupiter Dolichenus from Syria, Cybele from Phrygia, African Saturn from Carthage, Cynics and Stoics and Platonists from Greece, Gnostics from Alexandria, and of course Christians from Judea. These cults led to a fracturing of society and eventually factionalism and civil war. Meanwhile Rome itself lost significance and was depopulated, cutting out the core that held the Empire together and granting the provinces considerable autonomy.
Even as late as the Byzantine defeat against the ascendant Arabs we can see the failure of the Roman system of multiculturalism. At the Battle of Yarmouk, which lost Syria to Islam forever, Byzantine forces were far superior to Arab forces in numbers, equipment, training etc. But the Arabs were united by one language, culture, religion, purpose, and thus one leader, while the Byzantine army consisted of Armenians, Slavs, Arabs, Georgians, Franks, and Greco-Roman cataphracts, each with their own commander, equipment, tactics, and motivations.

Rome ≠ Italy lol. Firstly "Italians" aren't a single people but they're many populations with different genetic heritages. To get back to the Lombard example, Cisalpine Gauls (the Celtic peoples who lived in the Po valley) after being annexed by the Romans still continues speaking Gaulish and even developed their own alphabets, like the Lugano alphabet. Italy isn't a historical nation, it's just a recent phenomena.

    Firma nunc me spondeo
    Fidelis tibi maneo
    Bella priorum cara patria
    Nunc et semper florens gloria
    Pulchras terre patrie
    Potes terrae pro homines
    Rome nostrae aeterne
    Vis cavire domum navium
    Frusta ipsa impetur
    Sunt sine spe
    Domus dulces portula
    Fraudis ob sa
    Frumens nihil charismo
    Legiones pro cantus
    Et im tota patria
    Cantus victoriae resonat
    Et im tota patria
    Cantus nostre resonat
    Tempus est in gaudium
Superbie Roma aeterna. Now all you have to do is to find the fictional anthem that belongs to these lyrics :-)
