The emotions from this video is real. Soo much nostalgia. I loved seeing SOTY with you in it as many times as I did. I sincerely hope you play with them again one day Moon!
the riffs are gold, like the sound of the guitar, made me get my own prs in 2003 that i play every day, even my kids have played it throughout the years, its give me the feels too
Man this channel, and specifically this video brought back the feels this morning. Soty is so intertwined in the history with my best friends from high school. Countless shows together, quoting Bassassins, growing beards to cover up our acne..using that video to still tell each other happy birthday haha, buying your Marshall behind Bogarts in Cincinnati after the best concert of my youth/still rock out to Sophomore now and then.. man, you’re a big part of my history growing up. I hope one day, time will heal things and I can reunite with my high school dudes in the crowd watching y’all reunite on stage. And even Biff Steel is there throwing you FOJ.
Until the Day I Die was my introduction to SotY. I remember being at a new friend's house that just moved to town, in '05 or '06, and he was blasting it in his room. I asked what band it was and then fell into the rabbit hole. Glad you held on to that beast. ❤
I love that you are doing this. It’s fascinating and nostalgic. It’s pretty wild how an instrument with that kind “character” looks perfect from a few feet away, and then you see all of the nicks and dings up close. Thanks for sharing! …also, I feel like this is the most anyone has ever said about “the thing”. I really wish it could all come back together again at someday.
I remember being a teenage girl growing up in a quiet small town in SE MO and being SO in love with SOTY. Moon, this video brought back so many fond memories for me. I definitely got all the feels. So grateful for you and everything you do in/with/for music! I was using SOTY as mental hype music back then… my 9 year olds favorite hype song most mornings for her ride to school is Top of the World. Talk about full circle ♥️
This guitar basically fueled me from 8th grade on. Those riffs are just the best. I really hope one day the band and you can but differences aside and play together again. It’s just not the same without you in it.
Phil, my heart breaks for you seeing how much that guitar and the memories behind it mean to you. Especially given that they were cut short. I seen that GF and SOTY are both playing at Brightside Music Festival. I hope social media is plagued with videos of you joining them for a song or 2. It would mean the world to all of your fans! Loving the content from here in the UK!
Thanks for sharing … I’m gonna see them on the 22nd here in Fort Lauderdale and trust me I wish you were still playing with STOY… hopefully one day and I get to see you live … i remember being in Venezuela and hear the band first thanks to the game need for speed and then for me was the Pepsi smash presentation with all the backflips and guitar spins that make fall in love with the energy you guys used to play !.. thanks
Dude this vids are amazing! I remember watching story of the year's videos, loving the PRS guitars you were playing back then, and to be able to see this vids makes all those feelings alive again! Thanks for this particularly video, and i was able to notice that every single word you said while talking about the history of this guitar means a lot to you too!
I love learning the history behind your instruments and the experiences each of them gave to you! I’d love to see any 7 strings you have! Keep up the good work Mooners
Man it's nice to finally see the prs you always talked about. Now I would love to see you play some tasty riffs on that stephan carpenter back there next. if you haven't made a video for that yet
I remember getting serious about playing and started wearing my belt buckle to the sides before shows because I heard you say that somewhere years ago. Buckle rash is a serious threat to guitars
Pretty sure you used that one in the video for "Until the Day I Die", but I could be wrong... Could have been the 'whale blue' one too. It's kinda hard to tell honestly with how that video is shot with the low lighting and super fast shot transitions and such.
🇧🇷 Uma pena você não tocar mais esse riff junto com os outros (e o riff de Dive RIght In também!)... Ainda assim, continuo sempre seguindo seu trabalho, principalmente no Greek Fire! But... "I'm dreaming in deja vu, the only time I can..." see all the band together again! 🥲
Man i remeber like 3 shows that feldman took my little band on to play with story of the year and goldfinger. i remeber the first show was at chicago house of blues in maybe early mid 2003 id did know who story of the year was. Later feldman had us play in tucson with saosin and goldfinger. Also i remeber we played warped tour on smart punk stage and i think you sang for saosin after they let go anthony. Man those were the days
@@StoryOfTheGear i thought one of your guys in story of the year i thought it was you sang for saosin on the smart punk stage i think 2004 we would play before underoath on the socal days. I remeber feldman and some big guy with a bald kinda head and some how he did something for guns and roses and they were looking for bands and came to our rehersals then invited us on your prerelease tour. I dont think we ever hung out or talked to anyone. We knewand played bullets and octane and death on wensday. I remeber hearing about big blue monkey from our friends from criteron snake and gene did half of some demos for us. What a small world
depends on the tour, band, etc. For these videos anything I use I'll put in the description and I'll try and get more detailed on the videos with that going forward. Thanks!
Incredible that we get to see this beast up close! I saw you live way back when I was about 17 here in the UK at the 'taste of chaos' tour in Brighton! Do you know whether it’s the wide thin or wide fat neck profile? Also, what’s the finish called?
@@danparry834 thanks Dan. I believe the finish was called vintage yellow maybe? This is definitely the guitar I played on that tour and every other. I want to say it’s wide thin but I can’t be sure and I’m in the studio away from it right now. It’ll always be a special one tho
@@StoryOfTheGear they’ve actually been performing recently with a new lead singer, I’ve had the privilege of meeting Kris the lead guitarist a few times and he sold me a custom 24! I’ve since added a Tremonti to the collection. Thanks again for replying, been listening to SOTY for years.
Thanks for the great video and stories, there is nothing like an instrument with its own mojo and natural relic 👌🏻. Do you still own the green one, which you broke if I remember correctly?
You gave a pretty solid sound to the band, without you there is a lot of mess. The other guy, the guy who thinks he's Dimebag, very creative but so dirty. Not to mention your vocals, you sing like an angel.
Can you somehow push to get In The Wake on vinyl? 10/10 would give my moneys all day. I also strictly play PRS bc of you and nose til this day. PEPTOOOO

The clarity of tone on that thing is insane.
Wild right. Crazy old strings, beat at every show for 10+ years. 1000 flights. Smokes my others

Heck yes. Love that!
Really cool to hear about those memories. Sometimes seems like there's a gag order on both sides. I loved your time with Story of the Year, obviously.

Glad the cam could catch all the dings and such. It has so many sweet chips out of it and grooves
When you played the riff, chills brotha

Don’t be sleeping on Phil’s guitar skills! He’s one of the best out there
You were the first guitar player I looked up to and wanted to play like. You unlocked a love for singers/guitar players.
Thank you man!
i've been sleeping on story of the year until these videos...listening to them now and why didn't i ever listen before this? Great videos keep it up!!
