Great tips. Todd Graves is Moe Norman's student. I've started one plane swing because of back surgeries and it has done wonders. Now I just got to get the feel back for shots. I love this game because it is a mind and body game . Thanks for the great video

I switched to single plane Moe Norman swing 10 years ago and it not only helped my back issues but it improved my handicap by 10 strokes… as Tiger Woods said there were only 2 golfers that owned their swing…Ben Hogan & Moe Norman… Moe’s swing was mechanically perfect & makes so much sense … that’s why he was known as Pipeline Moe… cheers mate

Moe was once asked how he plays a low shot out of the trees, he replied "don't know, i am never in them". As for the golf swing you need to do works for you, figure it out. Look at Jim Furyk, nobody says swing like him, yet he is the only golfer that has ever shot a 58 on the PGA tour. Love the videos

The Moe Norman swing tips are great....and if you're getting older... or if you have bad knees...his swing will help you a great deal. I had to go to a swing like Moe Norman's Liam when I was in my twenties. My left leg was severely injured playing American Football in college. My doctor's told me that playing golf would be very difficult because of my 6 knee operations. Well...I taught myself this same type of swing...and it has worked for me for 40 years...and in my 30's and 40's I carried a 4 handicap.

Liam great video as always I watch golf mates ever day and love it so much so that I had to go from Birmingham to play Nefyn all down to you fantastic. But the other thing that this video has hit the right spot. Moe Norman I spent the lockdown practicing the single plane swing from Todd Graves and the Graves academy. I have been a 22 handicap for over 20 years. Now at the age of 62 I’m of 15 and still going in the right direction. So 22 handicap November 15 by May. Had to work in the net at home but it speaks for itself and now you have mentioned it brilliant..

Moe Norman, fantastic golfer, very well known in Canada even to this day. He died about 2003 and never got the worldwide recognition he deserved thanks to the American press and also because he didn’t come the Open. But please bear in mind he hit about 500 balls a day, every day. He was a very quick player as well as a quick practiser as illustrated by the video clip you included in your video. Todd Graves is known as little Moe and his channel is well worth watching. I would also recommend Shawn Clement, Wisdom in Golf, who also speaks highly of Moe and has personally met him. Tips for us lesser mortals is a good idea and also tips from your resident pro. Keep them coming in between matches with your mates, the Dick and OMP etc. Looking forward to any videos featuring Josh, club fitting and the America trip. Cheers Liam.
Ps. Sorry for the length of this comment.

Great video on some real tips that are more than trying to swing faster to hit it farther. I read once that 80% power gives 100% distance and that 100% power gives 80% distance. Mo's technique is about consistent swing pattern that delivers shot after shot. I have seen a number of Mo's videos as well as Todd Graves' stuff (a staunch advocate of the single plane swing). The other aids - the mat (great instant feedback) and the water bottle are excellent. The best thing is what you said initially, "find your own swing"....

  • @fastbusiness

Liam, great to see you making improvement. Thanks for the tips.
In my case "over the top" is always caused by starting the downswing with the upper body instead of the lower. Here is what works best for me: Turn the left shoulder DOWN and parallel to the target line to the top of the backswing; then on the downswing, rotate the hips open while the left shoulder rotates up and parallel to the target line.
There are two important feels to identify: 1) the shoulders rotate VERTICALLY and the hips rotate HORIZONTALLY, 2) through impact, you feel a strong stretch all the way up the left side of the back as the left side arches and the right side passes under it. Do it slowly at first and be sure to start the lower body moving first and keep the hips turning through to the finish. There is a tendency to let the right shoulder go out and around instead of down and under. If you don't feel that stretch in the left side, that indicates something wrong.
This is my way. Not to be confused with Jack Nicklaus "Golf My Way" :)

After playing golf badly for approx 20 years off and on, at the now age of 70 , I’ve started practicing moe Norman’s method.
I can now hit all irons inc 2 , dead straight almost every time. Driver straighter and further than ever. My only real error is trying to hit
Even further, good rhythm equals great shots. So wish RUclips and moe was available 20 years ago.

Hello Liam! Love your channel and your great sense of humor.I have been watching about 6 months now and being from the states I am finally able to understand your British accent. I just marvel at OMP. What a great golfer. Let me mention that I have been using Moe Norman's single plane swing since early summer. I am 68 and have knocked 15 strokes off my game and play in mid 80's. I follow Todd Graves who carries on the Moe method. With the single plane you hit the ball straight every time I am not kidding. If everyone adopted the single plane way of golf they would have to close all the golf schools and stop selling golf magazines. It really is quite simple. Who would have thought I would be playing my best golf at this age. Keep up the good work!

watch a lot on Moe but I would warn golf mates..... Moe`s technique is a complete change, its not a fix but a completely different view on golf but his principles are solid. if you are new or are struggling to hit a ball then go for it as its not for everyone. I started playing golf with a one plain swing but struggled with standard cubs, I needed my clubs to be 5 degree flat to achieve what he did (something they don't tell you on the vids) great vid Liam and Moe does not get the recognition he deserves in golf so fair play. great vid mate

I was able to see Moe Norman practice several times during the winter months in Titusville Florida at the Royal Oaks CC. On one occasion I and several others witness him hit a medium bucket of golf balls with his 7 iron to a 150 yard flag where the entire bucket of balls were within 15 feet of the flag and the majority of them within 5 feet. He was uncanny that day as he was on most days. One of the greatest ball strikers of all time. It's not a swing for everyone but it can help those who really want to work hard and learn his techniques.

    Liam,
Great video. Todd Graves is the guy you're trying to think of. He's been called the "Young Moe Norman". He studied under Moe for some years and is the only person that Moe let inside his world of golf. He keeps the spirit of Moe alive. As for the mat, picked one up a few weeks ago and it identified and fixed my swing in one weekend.

From a proud Canadian. Tiger Woods told Golf Digest's Jaime Diaz that "Only two players have ever truly owned their swings: Moe Norman and Ben Hogan. I want to own mine." It was unfortunate that Moe suffered from mental health issues or everyone would have known his name.

Been a big fan of Moe's for years, but some warnings. You cannot play good golf playing like Moe using just a bit of his swing, grip etc. You have to use it all. Also, what Moe says/thinks he does isn't always what he does e.g he says he doesn't turn his hips. Yes, he does. Another fab clip Liam, thanks mate.

Liam, at @4:20 in this video you can see your right knee is straight as a board; locked out. The only way back to the ball is your upper body coming over the top. Now go watch Mo Norman. Mo's right knee never straightens, it always has flex and allows his lower body to work through the swing. Watch every tour pro; right knee stays flexed, allowing them to bring the club back into the ball on-plane. Good luck.

A tip I got was to wear a watch on your right hand with the face parallel to your palm up. Then on the downswing try to keep the watch face pointing to the sky as long as possible. It may feel like your club face is wide open, but as you approach the ball, the club face will naturally square. This will give you the shallowing of the club and increase club head speed because of the lever leverage you get because the of the club head is further from your hands when swinging in a circular arc. This is similar to a water skier swinging right or left of the tow boat. And increasing the velocity faster than the tow boat.

Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods when asked have always said that Mo Norman was the best ball striker that ever lived. Mo had a single plane swing. His hands at address were in the same position that they were at impact.he also never put his club directly behind the ball. This helped with shoulder turn. I started positioning my Driver approximately 8 inches behind the ball at address a few months ago. My Driving has improved dramatically as I feel that I’m swinging smoother. Try it golfmates. It’s worth a try.

A really good bit if advice I got which has improved my scores (not necessarily my game) was in regards to club selection.
Say for example you look at your distance device and you have say 120yds - 130yds - 140yds Front - Middle - Back of the green
What I used to do was base my club selection on where the pin was. So in this scenario it'd be 9I to the front 8I middle, 7I back.
The advice I got was to select a club that you think you could clear the green with by a yard or two. If someone offered you say £1,000 to just clear the green and no more what club would you hit.
In my case this would be a 7I. If I hit a good one it'll usually carry about 140yds.
But how often do you hit a "good one" ? For me maybe about 10% of the time. Another 10% of the time it's a total duffer but about 80% of the time it's an ok shot but "Just didn't quite get hold of it" etc... and it maybe goes 125-135 sort of range.
So in the above scenario If I hit a 7 iron. Then 10% of the time I'll be just off the back of the green, I'll duff it 10% of the time but 80% of the time I'll be on the green somewhere.
On the flip side if the pin is 5 yards on the green and I decide to play to the pin which is 125yds away, then I'm going to be just short of the green 80% of the time, duff it 10% of the time and be on the green 10% of the time.
Understanding the logic behind this has really helped me get some lower scores without me actually improving as a ball striker or being able to hit it any further.

Now this time last year the same and almost packed this infuriating game in but became a golf mate and 80,90, even a 100 no problem move on no body has died. Mo Norman had he not had what may have been an autistic issue would have made a big impact in the US but could not do the crowds. However once was watched hitting driver 270 yards hitting 100 balls with a dispersion in SINGLE FIGURES!!! TOUR PROS

Great tips. I purchased a 3-Pack of the mat, and should make some practice time to start using it.
Since I've been prescribed meds for high blood pressure and haven't had a decent night's sleep in a month, I'm playing more like Moe HOWARD, porcupine!!! 😂

Graves stuff is solid and some of his recent videos have been fantastic. I went single plane last couple years and even misses are going straight or at worst pulled left. Ball position is still a battle but then it always was. Dunno about Mo/single plane for you at the moment Liam your game is in a good place to my eyes. Looking over some of the Graves stuff tho I'd recommend. Cheers!

Another interesting Vlog i have also been watching Moe Norman/Todd Graves who worked with him and his swing is very different but you can use some of his ideas. I'm out of action at mo due to a hand operation but have been watching lots of other RUclips golf stuff and came across Golf Sidekick as well.
Keep up the content and theses tips are actually really very good.
Ps At West Lancs as well as your iron play you also putted extremely well!

ive watched lots of videos of him and he was one character , didn't fit in on the pga tour so went back to Canada, all the greats said he was the best ball-striker that ever lived, even Tiger used to watch him hit balls on the range !

Great video...Moe was amazing, even the way he dressed....sad no one really paid attention to him. The pros knew who he was and the game he had. I would have loved to have seen a match between both of them in the day...I would have put my money on Moe!!

I have a good Golf tip for Golfmates. If you are having a good start to your Golf Round. Put your score down, but don't add it up and don't think about it in your head. Just play the round and add up after Round is over.

Tiger Woods is quoted in Golf Digest "Only two players have ever truly owned their swings: Moe Norman and Ben Hogan." When asked what he would like to achieve in golf, Tiger stated he wanted to own his swing, like Moe and Hogan. There's a great book on Moe, "Moe & Me: Encounters with Moe Norman, Golf's Mysterious Genius", by Lorne Rubenstein.

But I'm going to do it my way, understand what needs to happen and how I can consitently make it happen. Thanks for the video the mat certainly looks like a good tool for me to help in my game.
