I have a 1970 Framus Texan 12 string with a lot of history, It was stolen in 1993 and 15 years later the GuADIA civil called me and told me that they had found it. Today I finally have it at home. Greetings from Seville, Spain
Great video, really appreciate your content! It’s really cool that given the success of the band, they could’ve been playing whatever they wanted. Still they made amazing sounds with what they had on hand. It seems once Paul got his Ricky and John & George got their Sonic Blue Strats they started leaning towards a higher quality instrument
Thanks for the comment! I always wondered why they didn't buy more of whatever they wanted... They were given a lot of freebies by Fender, Vox, and Rickenbacker, but they could have played whatever they wanted...
Really enjoyed your attention to the detail in this video, it's like a treasure trove - your dedication to finding out every detail of the Hootenanny is astonishing. Very much appreciate your sharing of all this with us, an almost-forgotten gem in the Beatles sonic arsenal!
I bought a similar 1960s Framus Hootenanny - quite cheaply - in the mid-1980s. I noticed the similarity to the tone on the Beatles records, but didn't consider that it might be THAT model they used. I sold it on to a friend; who broke it, then put the slotted headstock in a plant pot to train a creeping plant through it... ;-)
I think it's a great recording guitar because of that rich in the mids and lack of low end quality, which makes it easily take its own space within the mix.
Fantastic! So cool! You did a great job with this. Thanks! I've always been curious about John's rhythm on HELP! I had heard that it was a Framus 12 but you nailed it.
Your guitar is amazing and sounds just like Johns when recorded. Great and engaging video. I beginning to think this might be my fav Beatles guitar sound well certainly as regards the acoustic ones.
I have a 12 to its a montenery but it has the same buzzing and i took it to a shop and its a bridge and hut problem which i was sad about but still sound beautiful
I've got a 65 Framus Hootenanny and the label says 5/024L which I guess means long with a mustache bridge and a Campus King with a solid headstock and trapeze tail piece. Its funny because the Campus King sounds more like a Hootenanny than my real Hootenanny does. I thinks its because of the mustache bridge is dampening the sound. The Campus King has a thin narrow bridge. I was thinking of converting the Hoot to a adjustable bridge as I have and extra trapeze tail piece . label says 5/019L. Also have the original case for the Hoot. The Hootenanny's are very hard to find.
@@LikeMarmaladeSkies They are worth it if you really want that sound.Modern 12 strings can’t do that sound. Most people would say modern ones sound better…. But that boxy , dry sound is what is on Beatles records… for me …. It was worth it! But I like to have the sounds of my childhood available to me.
Great guitar and great playing! Congratulations. I also have a Hootenanny, but in sunburst and with slotted headstock. Sounds exactly like yours! Mine is missing the pickguard though. It's very hard to find. Do you have one left over from your purchases?
Well i just watch this two years after you ask where johns guitar? Seems it was brought to Julians for auction and was verified by Andy Babuiks as the guitar! So one more found!
Amazing…you must have spent a lot to get that guitar all together even though the bare guitar was cheap. It has the exact sound of those recordings. I wonder what they sold for in 1964…I bet it was NOT EXPENSIVE. It’s no Martin! The other musician of the era that played a Framus that I remember was Bill Wyman of the Stones playing a Framus Bass in the mid 60’s.
What strings did you used? Amazing it's great! I have a fender acoustic 12 string but it sounds just so different that I'm questioning if I could use other strings that can get me closer to your sound. Thank you!
The strings are pyramids . I don’t remember the gauge because pyramid strings last so long! They been on a long time. I doubt that will get you closer to the sound by just changing the strings. Your best bet is to find a model of Framus like the camping king or the Framus Texan 12 string IMO . Thanks for watching!
It’s denim, not suede. I bought it in Ireland. I have a leather rubber soul reproduction jacket but I don’t like the fit . It is too baggy under the arms. This jacket fits just right.
Great playing! And what a gorgeous, rare Beatles guitar! Sounds exactly like the record.
Thanks!
Hello!
Hello back!
@@perrystanleyNumber9 What type of strings are used and can you do a restringing video for the Framus?
June 2024; John's Framus just raked in around 3 million bucks at auction! Suddenly they're sounding a bit better! ;)

Wow!
my first guitar was a framus texan bought in 1972 for £26

wow thats an expensive mistake they sell for $5000 now
Beautiful sound !
Here from BGC....great video & collection.
Thanks again, Timothy!
Wow … this made my day today ! You play that Framus as John did ….deadn- - z on .. great inspiring video .thanks
Thank YOU!
there is something about it, but a hootenanny just sounds better than any other 12 string acoustic
It does have a unique character that most 12 strings today can’t capture.

It's been found and up for auction next month!
Amazing , isn’t it?
@@perrystanleyNumber9 2.8 million it sold for.
Sounds beautiful. Definitely worth all your efforts. I assume John's was a 64 too. Such a unique sound.
Thank you!
Coulda been a 65

I believe that Ray Davies used one in the Kinks early phase (not 100% sure).

Perry, ace video.
Am I right in saying that Framus manufactured this model in sunburst and with a Spanish-style headstock?
Yes, they did all sorts of configurations. The label inside would still probably denote the model as a Hootenanny if it is.
@@perrystanleyNumber9 are these models worth picking up? I could get a 1964 one for about £550..

I suppose one of those guitars you purchased along the way might have been John's.
Ha! I doubt it, but that would be nice! Thanks for watching!

You Look Like Gordon Ramsay
No, he looks like ME! ;)
Is it solid or laminated wood?
Top is solid spruce.
I can't find anything to confirm but is this a shorter scale guitar? Looks like it.
Not sure what constitutes a short scale guitar, but the framus neck meets the body at the end of the 12th fret.
@@perrystanleyNumber9 Normally anywhere from 24 to 24.5" from the saddle to the nut.
Full scale would be 25.5"
