Living Like A Hobbit In An Earth House

  • Have you ever wanted to live like a hobbit? This vision was made reality by Swiss architect Peter Vetsch when he designed his earth houses. These eye-catching houses are integrated into the natural landscape and although they are reminiscent of "hobbit-holes," they are incredibly stylish. Beyond that, earth houses are designed to help protect against natural disasters. Instead of blocking land areas so that the chances of flooding during heavy rainfall increase, they help prevent that from happening. Plus, they're an architectural experience. Who hasn't wanted to live in a house with curved walls?

I could see a 3-D printer solution to building these. The rebar poses a challenge, but not an insurmountable one.

I love the design, but concrete and polyurethene shouldn't be used in their construction. It can however be build from wood, haybales, and clay. It's been done in Wales for a many centuries, and the practice has moved to Denmark in newer times. My wife and I plan to build a home like that.

I think you have incredible creative designs and I love the flow you create.
I love the harmony and simplicity and melding the home with the earth. Its a win win with a happy grin!
Thanks for sharing . I would love to have a home like this so will have to find out more about it and see if it could happen here in Central B.C.Canada

Nothing about the systems in the house?
Earth homes in South West USA, have back walls (north walls) that retain heat, recycle waste water to grow plants, collect rain water, use solar for lighting and cooking. Do these houses have similar systems ?

We'd love to have an earth house, but curved shapes simply do not speak well to us. We still prefer sharp edges.

More than likely as it's made of concrete not wooden panels. Also, having those curvy shapes it makes it quite aerodynamic against air currents.

There would have to be an area built in the home without windows (to prevent glass shattering) but, otherwise, I believe an underground home may be similar to a bunker or basement

"The Crimean peninsula" is part of Ukraine, you didn't specify what parts of Germany and Switzerland the houses were built in. This is incorrect, and somewhat even supports Russian occupation.

I think they just wanted to avoid controversy, which apparently you're very keen to stir. Ffs, it's not a political statement, it's a video about houses, just chill...

Cool looking, but the rounded stuff is totally unpractical. Just look at the kitchen. You won't fit any standard components/furniture in there!

@@dweuromaxx well, yes, i did have excellent teachers, thank you for asking! that was 60 years ago for kindergarten, and they spoke like grown ups and expected us to also. good content, so no, heidi, i wont just run away. i asked a question, why are so many commentators speaking with a sing song baby talk cadence? i noticed it a few years ago here in u.s., and just "changed the channel" (in fact got rid of tv altogether like so many others here have). Now, the you tube presenters are beginning to talk that way, i guess i am the only one here who notices? Perhaps i am just too many years out of kindergarten.
