With the updated OS 2.0 in MODX and 3.0 Montage, Yamaha has finally put sequencing capabilities into these already awe-inspiring synths. Here we go over the basics of building a 2-Scene backing track using the Pattern Sequencer function, with emphasis on workflow, best practices and tips along the way.

For some reason I’m always seeing the other RUclipsrs videos who play modx/montage but this is by far the easiest and best breakdown of the sequencer I’ve seen thanks 🙏 Sir
Nicely done I have not really dove into the scene part of editing. This should really help thank you !
Thanks for this video
Many thanks for your instructional videos. They are extremely helpful! Would the next step be to "chain" together scene one and scene two?
Wow you saved the day bro, have the Montage 8 lying on my desk for 8 months now, lol just figured out crazy stuff hats off to you, thanks much, suscribed.
Great video! Somehow the Lead FM Sean is cut off every time a new bar starts - any idea why?
Excellent very talented I am not able to store performances or patterns or live set with USB after switching off my recordings vanish how to store what is the job dign for top right how to overdub oks guide , God bless
Nice instruction vid, do you know how to change the time signature if you want to change it later?
Can you make a demo video on the MODX showing how to to create a song step by step using the scenes, style parts, drums, bass, etc,, arps, rhythms, patterns sequencer, etc?
Thank you for your tips
Nice tutorial. Very clearly explained. Can you tell me why the first bar of the drums sounds phased? Thanks. New subscriber here.
I could be wrong, but I think the ARP continued to record double notes when the loop came around. The way to avoid might be to turn off looping while recording and then turn it back on later.
Great! was looking for something like this... :)
I have a question though - I want to use stem tracks of the whole song or a few instrument audio tracks that are produced on Logic pro to be played back as rhythm variations A B C D and Fills/endings, etc.. (like audio styles present on the SX900 and others)
Is that possible on the MODX6? I use ableton for it at the moment (gets tedious). Need to know if this board could do it so that we can use it at church instead of having to use a laptop and other gear. Thanks again for this video
Hello - do you do 1 on 1 virtual lessons?
Nice man
Wow! Great walkthru.. looks a bit complicated(Yamahaish) though🤔 but i might be wrong..
It's Yamahaish, you aren't wrong! This isn't my first choice for making backing tracks ( I use a Roland for that), but if this machine was all you had, you can do pretty much anything with it!
@@SynthsandGuitars I believe so but the sounds are mindblowing.
Yamaha scare NASA 🤣
A song from Scandal called 'Goodbye To You' has a beginning bass sequence with the following chords (Am, D, F#, E). I need to make that into a sequence or a arpeggio where I can either hold the chord (preferred) or at least one key. Any idea how to do this?
At 3:39 how did you get from the Performance page to the Arp list...?
Thanks for any help... Grate video...!

Sorry about it was a edit. Arps are all found under the Edit function, and then you choose the part that the Arp is attached to. In this case it is Part 4.
If you look up in the upper left of the screen at that timestamp you'll see the path--- Edit - Part 4 - Common
Hope this helps.
Good video and subscribed. Quick question, what if i wanted to create my own drum pattern and base pattern and not use the premade ones built into the Yamaha, is it possible? I guess i want to create my own backing for something i can then play along to.
Everything can be made from scratch using MODX/Montage, these machines are truly workstations and were built from the ground up for this purpose.
==>You can produce your own drum track using the Pattern Sequencer, and you also can produce your own User Arpeggio for the bass line, for example.
What about ading wave backing track and sending the klik to the drummer?
Great practical question! I'll look into it!!
@@SynthsandGuitars please do 😍🤩
The problem i have with MODX 6 and MODX 7+ is that the arpegiator is not properly recorded. The result is just a disaster. It only works when sending to an external DAW.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated :-) None of the settings i tweaked fixed that , and i would say this should work out of the box
Thank you , but , as I play with accompaniment in my yamaha psr sx 900 , left hand chord with accompaniment and right hand lead how to do this here pls guide , not recording creating own styles
pls explain is it possible to change the chords while playing the patterns on modx?
as "fingered" user arpeggios, yes.
it's not quite Iike arrangers or the QY sequencers, though with 1 key and ENTER
Everytime i create another scene it switches patterns. Can I have one patters with 4 scenes?
I just cannot figure out what option you are pressing on minute 3:36 that takes you to the arp section. I am trying to do the same thing as you but I just can't get to the arp section.

I hear Yamaha is going to be coming out with the new Motif XF in 2013 which will have a sequencer built in and all kinds of cool drum loops already programmed and ready to jam to. No more having to create your own lame loops from scratch!
Only problem is that it takes two people to move it, and makes gigging really a drag. Too bad I don't have the get up and go I did when I was taking my CS-80, Rhodes 88 and Hammond with the Leslie out on gigs.
