@@Jay9966 well except there was a great game beneath the horrendous technical issues unlike this game. Btw I don't mean the game itself (Gotham knight) is terrible but nowhere as near good as Arkham knight.
@@PremMajumdarVG Honestly I was initially so hyped for the game until I saw gameplay, I realized it would at best be a bargain sale purchase for me, I'll wait for it to be around $15 with a couple DLCs lol
@@Jay9966 u know what made me not buy it? The optimization. I read a review of someone saying he has a rtx 3090 and couldn't maintain 60 fps. Now I have 3060 so I'm fked. I really do not care about clunky controls and grindy gameplay because i love those things but horrendous optimization is a major turn off for me. I only buy badly optimized games of the game itself is really fun or if it's a Batman game cause I'm a diehard Batman fan( Arkham knight at launch lol). But still I'm considering buying it and capping it at 30 fps and maxing it out since I don't mind 30 fps completed GoW at 30 fps maxed out even though I could run it at 60 and playing cyberpunk also at 30 rn with Ray tracing and what not.
I loved the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. I even liked some of the combat with it until it started getting annoying & repetitive. But that cloudburst tank can go drive over a cliff.
Yep the major problem and disappointment with the batmobile it was that it didn't have a upgrade tree like Batman. A missed opportunity since the batman gameplay was fully matured. The way you started the gameplay with the batmobile it's the way you finish it. And seeing they put so much of the game around it, by the half of the game it's starting to get old. They should have put different gadget and weapons and enemies type through the game to keep it always fresh. Or make it a smaller part of the game.
Stop capping. It does not look the same. You can clearly tell that they just didn't know what to do with the game. Plus it doesn't make any sense to say they tried to make an avengers then went a different path. Why are people thinking the devs looked at avengers when it's clear as day they looked at assassin's creed? AC has these elements that the game is trying to be.
the crimes to complete the knighthood quest generate based on the clues you get. the little spyglass things that drop from enemies fills a meter that adds crimes for your next nightly patrol.
@@meurer13daniel it’s at 6:10 he says it only generates 1-3 a night but if he would interrogate and do the non premeditated crimes around the city he would fill up the meter and go back and he would have ten crimes the next night it doesn’t take multiple nights in game/ real life hours
With having to reset the night once you run out of premeditated crimes issue if you complete a smaller crime, and interrogate one of the enemies with a ? above their head, they will tell you about another premeditated crime happening in the city so you don't actually have to reset the night to complete the knighthood challenges
I’m finding myself not watching reviews for any game for awhile now, and the less reviews I watch the easier it is to avoid the trap of mob mentality and formulate my own opinion (who woulda thought?). I’ve noticed my overall enjoyment of gaming return by essentially just not caring what the outspoken group thinks, & I haven’t been disappointed by a game I purchased in a few years as a result. This game is good fun to me and that’s what matters, if people don’t enjoy it that’s okay too
Louder for the people in the back please. After The Last of Us Part II I learned that if you ignore the mob mentality and actually form your own opinion about things you will enjoy video games a lot more.
@@Treyperiod Deathstroke would be cool, him or his daughter Rose Wilson. Fits with the Lazarus storyline as well. Would like a twist where we play as Riddler when he's a P.I (like he was in the Animated Series for a time) and fight the corrupt Police Department.
I don't know. Having played both Batgirl and Red Hood, his guns definitely feel different from the batarangs. They fire faster, the bullets fly straight as opposed to curving like the batarangs, meaning it's easier to aim over long distances. The batarangs are infinite, while the guns have to be reloaded(which ties in to some of Red Hoods skill to reaload instantly) Just some things I noticed.
what’s your thoughts on the game? i’ve only beaten arkham city but have enjoyed the others in the trilogy and can’t decide if i want this game or to never touch it
@@ukiyo1878 I've only played as Robin in co-op with my brother playing as Nightwing and we've had a blast so far. If you go into thinking you're going to get the usual Arlham experience, you'll probably be disappointed. My brother and I knew this wasn't an Arkham game going into it, we knew it was meant to be a whole different experience. I think if you strictly play co-op with maybe a little bit of messing around in single player you'll have fun. My only real complaint so far is that only the host's character appears in cutscenes outside the Belfry.
@@ukiyo1878 comparatively The story isn't as good, (after being spoiled I was both underwhelmed and surprised they actually decided to go there) gameplay is less crisp, you really need a friend to play with or else everyone turns into a sponge or stun locks the s*it out of you spamming the same lunge if you are expecting to play a good game you'll be disappointed, you need to come in expecting a s*it game to make fun of to truly enjoy it. most people who say it isn't that bad are for a rude awakening later down the line.
@@ukiyo1878 the story seems good, but I haven't gotten to far yet I've taken down Dr. Q and Mr. Freeze and the set pieces are nice. I think the biggest appeal is seeing how the bar family interact and bounce off each other. The melee combat is a lot more simple but sometimes it hits a good Arkham-y flow. It really is a grindfest though. I would say if you're a big fan of the Batfamily then go ahead and get it, otherwise wait for a sale. It's not a bad game, better than Marvel's Avengers, but not mind-blowing like Spider-Man or Arkham.
Yes, you do have to reset the night when you run out of crimes to do but you can do up to like 10 or so crimes to get more you have to do the smaller ones and interrogate the “interrogatable” npc. That’s how you do nights with 10 or so crime encounters
I don’t get the problem with the system that people have to me its better than in Spiderman when I’m trying to stop demon crimes and I’m stuck swinging in circles until one pops up on the radar.
You have to reset the night to enter all information gathered into the bat computer and to upgrade your weapons and gear, if you haven’t noticed the enemies get harder each night and with some missions, you can’t finish the game in one night, that’s why some missions send you back to the belfry.
I'm sorry mate but I disagree with a fair bit of things you said here. As someone who also played the game on release day with my mate in co-op and who has 100% the game, I mean no offense in what I say here but a lot of these points are just a lack of understanding of the game from you. I do agree with some issues like optimisation and that but gameplay wise basically all of your information (gameplay related) is absolutely incorrect. If anyone wants me to go through it just reply to me but you've barely played the game and complaining about issues which are entirely your fault.
When I first played it I wasn’t too sure about it, especially bc I was expecting it to be almost identical to Arkham city and Arkham knight, but after playing for a while I’m really starting to love it.
Most people go into it with a negative bias from months of negative talks and now the exagerated bad reviews. It's a decent game. People have been saying for months "let's not compare it to the Arkham games" and now they do exactly that, ridiculous.
True. 30fps doesn't make it a bad game, but it does mean that if you compare it to another action game that runs at 60 or higher 30fps is going to give you a worse experience overall. Action games often require you to be quick and precise and a lower framerate is a detriment to that.
This generally is needed in fighting games. In a game like this the outcry is definitely an exaggeration. God of war 2018 was 30 and impeccable. These game is a beat ‘em up
Gotham Knights isn't an "Action Game". It's a RPG. The Witcher: The Wild Hunt is a good comparison. It's also 30 FPS. A lot of thinks happen in Gotham Knights that need the game to scale to 30 FPS including playing Co-Op. Imagine the Witcher having a co-op. It would destroy those 30FPS .
@@javierlandaverde4108 brother two things. 1. It’s an action rpg. 2. They definitely could have fixed performance man, I’m enjoying the game but I know it’s optimization issues on the developers end. They knew they didn’t optimize it 6 months ago which is the real reason they canceled last gen versions. At least they were honest with themselves and didn’t rob people like cyberpunk did on last gen consoles
I'm actually really loving this game. I was nervous with all the reviews coming out but once I got used to the systems (combat and progression) it became really fun for me. But to each his own...I would still consider checking this out if you're a fan of the Arkham games once it goes for sale if you're hesitant...
I completely agree. It’s a bit janky with movement and combat, but really enjoying it so far. Definitely don’t think it was worth the money for the deluxe edition, but I’m having a blast playing through it. Nothing groundbreaking but fun enough to warrant its existence
I know when the industry decides it wants to join together in taking down a game, they don't hold back. I was getting regardless, taking advantage of Steam refund if needed. I needed to get "my" hands on the game to test drive it. What I immediately noticed is that the "dead" city that Skill Up harped so much about was a straight up lie. In Arkham Knight, where is the fully working traffic system & trolley system? Where are any pedestrians walking about outside? All I every found were thugs & their vehicles approaching me for a fight? Pick your bones with game for its faults, but these Disney/Marvel leaning critics need to curb their bias just a bit.
@@jynxce I don't get the Gotham criticism either, it's like people are just making shit up to hate on the game. The city looks absolutely amazing, and is 100% more alive than in Knight.

@@thilankavithanage1891 same here. I don’t agree with Luke often. But honestly? Grinding to get a glide? Maybe “grinding” for 40 minutes isn’t a long time when you are 17… Trust me when you’re nearing 30 and get out momma’s basement, you don’t have time to waste 40 minutes of your life just to be able to glide in a mediocre game. Especially when a 10 year old game allows you to do off the get go
i’ve had up to 7 premeditated crimes appear. you have to do the little white triangles bc they are how you gather clues for premeditated crimes, and by gathering clues, more premeditated crimes appear
I’ve been enjoying the game so far. Sometimes grapple becomes confused and targets something behind me 😂 and I haven’t mastered Robin’s teleportation yet - the teleportation seems to stop exit too early (short of target). Overall, I like the game though. The homages to Arkham are very fun, like the Asylum music rendered as natural atmospheric sounds.
I can’t say I’m surprised. Hopefully Rocksteady Studios can make another Arkham game once they’re finished with that Suicide Squad game that nobody asked for.
Lmao. suicide squad has been done to death. And it kinda looks like a fancy 3rd person shooter. Plus there are rumors it’ll be live service trash. It’s overhyped
@@jamesgratz4771 Where is the hype, lol. That one trailer got a good reaction but I don't feel like it's highly anticipated. And it's likely gonna be microtransaction filled trash.
It isn’t that hard to get the 10. You must do minor crimes to build up the investigation meter. The more you do the more it goes up. Once it’s at like 6-7, go to base then go out again. You’ll see 6-7 of those missions. It’s simple and takes 40 minutes or less to get traversal once you figure it out
Yeah it's not a big deal, it took me 45 minutes to do 10 crimes for Robin and I was on and off because of my kids. Plus when you level up one character I think they all level up too making the leveling grind easier. This is way easier than Division, Destiny and Avengers where you have to level up all characters individually
@Bloofa honestly it’s like swinging around in Spider-Man and beating people ip in “forts”. Some people rob banks, some people and trying to break into buildings or cars, sometimes you’re inside a big building or sometimes underground. It’s like any other game. Go here, beat people up. Which is why I don’t understand peoples complaints in that end. It’s nothing new to video games. On the other side, it SUCKS to have to do it per character to unlock traversal and it wouldn’t be so bad if they felt very different from the beginning, instead of as you progress through the story their differences come out.
@@BOBBYdigital31 I have to say though avengers had better combat. As they leveled up you could unlock timed combos, delay an input for a bunch of other combos, just more individuality and variety. To the point I think this combat would have skyrocketed if they did the and and added delayed input combos…like X, wait, then X for a different combo string. It’s so simple and fits in this style but they stopped halfway. That’s my complaint with the game. A lot of bad things, but a lot of good things that are never great because they stop halfway.
The game isn't quite that bad. With the performance of the game being not great, it was still manageable to play and have fun. The story was great up to a certain point but felt so anti-climatic with certain parts and some feeling forced that could've easily been avoidable. The visual of the game were not great but not terrible. The gameplay feels sluggish at times such as the split second when waiting to grab a stunned enemy, but overall felt great with having different abilities to use and unique combos and the challenge of having to use timed strikes perfectly. If you're wanting to buy this game because you think it's an arkham successor, this isn't the game for you. However, if you want to play and explore the batman family and fight criminals to save gotham, this game is for you. Again, this is just the early stages of the game and I'm sure there will be major updates and fixes to make the game they intended for their audience.
Performance is sh**, shadows are flashing(In my case), Ray tracing makes stutters, you sure it's "not great"? But yeah, it can be fun... unless you play on very unbalanced hard difficulty and enemies literally cheat trough the mechanics just to kill you...
I will say the New Game+ is definitely way better than the base game. At that point the characters actually feel different. Nightwing being great at fast-paced, freeflow combat. Red Hood deals a bunch of damage but is slower, and his gun is insane. Batgirl feels the most like Batman from the Arkham Series. Robin is the best for stealth/predator because of his size/speed. This game feels like Batman Arkham Origins in terms of combat (especially if you take off Enemy Health Bars in the "UI"). And it makes sense considering both are published by the same studio. If you're a big Comic Book/Story Fan this game is for you. If you are an Arkham fan and want more Freeflow combat this game is for you. If you are an RPG/Souls player, I would recommend Valhalla over Gotham Knights lol. If anything, this game has made me appreciate Origins more. Just like Origins, the story is great, but the gameplay seems to lack/play it safe.
that's a fair take, but I almost never play new game+ lol I barely have time as it is to play games these days, I'd like those differences to be there when I first start playing. Tbh, my biggest superficial complaint about this game is just what I've seen of Red Hood. I hate how he has to have his guns in hand ALL the time. I get the class difference stuff, but idk I just don't dig it.
@@eddiev39 yeah it does suck that in order to experience the game how it should be, imo, you have to get to New Game+. But I feel like the same argument could be made for Spider-Man PS4. I think the reason Red Hood has guns in his hands constantly is because all the characters do, so I guess it's somehow baked into animations. During melee combat it never really bothered me too much since I was more focused on which enemy was attacking and blocking, etc.
@@orngbutrcream3767 I'm not sure if you can replay missions. I have yet to complete New Game+. There is an option to start a "New Game," but I believe there is only one Save Slot, so I don't want to test it right now.
The thing with witcher and rdr2 being 30 FPS is that they were cinematic enough for it to look good still. Rdr2 in particular feels like watching a film sometimes, and in that case it would be running at 24-25fps, so it just feels right
The biggest problem I've had is occasionally getting stuck on a door/table. Like the invisible wall actaully has a corner and it's not rounded to let the character slide past.
I think it mainly has to do with the clunky and non-responsive movement. The character tends to stick to weird corners and making small turns while walking is slow and not responsive at all.
@@GoodXylophone another problem I have is of I press O while perched on a gargoyle/ledge, my character (instead of dropping straight down) will leap across 20ft infront, totally ruining some stealth sections. But that could be a me issue.
@@TheOriginalDx1 Yeah it's almost impossible to drop straight down. They always leap forward like 20ft in front of the enemies instead of straight down behind them. It's a mixed bag for me. I think if the performance wasn't an issue and the movement was more responsive and fluid, I would like it a lot more.
Game is hella fun in co-op, especially if you're just looking to run around and blow off steam. Can't really recommend for pure single-player, but worth it with a friend (mileage may vary, ofc)
@@vrASMR180 Extremely fair. I guess I “lucked out” with having one friend interested who happened to be on the same platform, but it’s def unfortunate for a general squad
I am so glad I pre-ordered this game. I am having such a great time with it. My buddy and I have been playing and it's such a blast. It looks amazing and is a lot of fun. That's all I care about. I played co-op with my friend for 7 hours straight on launch day. Literally zero issues. (Though, we are on PS5)
at 10:18 AI isn't dumb they were induced with fear which makes them less likely to wanna fight and they'll sometimes run away. For an actual proper review you need to understand everything about the game first.
I'd like to add some clarity (if you find this comment). If you are grinding to get your knighthood you can most certainly get all ten crimes in a single night. All you have to do is interrogate one of the random enemies thrown about the city. It will then place a new crime on your map - that being said it does and will take a good amount of time, but I hope this helps some people. The game has its ups and downs. Luckily the story is one of its ups
I’m absolutely loving the game despite the few bugs I’ve seen. The traversal felt a bit too slow at first but I’ve gotten used to it after playing over the weekend
5:40 I think the complaint about how long it takes to get knighthood is a little exaggerated. If you interrogate an informant goon it will give you a new event to do. I think it caps out at 5-6 per knight and it makes enough clues to max out the next night after the first, took me a little under an hour for each of them. But I assume it can happen naturally over time if it’s not your main goal.
I think the fact that it’s repetitive and tedious is why. Because doing the same thing is a slog and is annoying. Doesn’t help that nothing feels fun or interesting
@@BabyGirlTiny I'm 40 hours in the game and still finding new crimes and new stronghold setups and the further you progress in the story the more varieties of crimes there will be
I have to disagree with Luke on this one. Saying that they are all the same, because the buttons do the same thing, is like playing Tekken and saying the characters are all the same because they are punch and kick but dressed up in different animations. I've played the game nonstop since it came out and I loved it, I've mostly played as Jason and I can tell the difference when I jump to another characters. Grayson can hop between enemies with ease and his ranged attack comes out slow and are mostly to interrupt shooters, Batgirl is inbtween the two with a beat down approach and quick batarang throws, Robin does more AOE and Elemental damage while his ranged attacks don't don't too much damage. Locking the traversal behind the Knighthood progression is annoying, and the stability is very annoying but underneath it, it's actually a pretty fun game.
Yea I dont get why all the RUclipsrs milk the smallest glitches/mechanics and base there whole review around it I love gotham knights and all the problems that exist can be fixed
Just so you know. You can unlock more premeditated crimes on your map by interrogating criminals at the white and purple triangles. The higher you fill that red magifine glass the more crimes pop up. * Very important you can either scan the criminals to figure out who to interrogate or look for the person with the higher level. I suggest leaving that person last
The level up points are actually given to all characters even without playing them. So really you have to play one character for a few hours to get some level ups then you can use those points on all characters.
Honestly wish that the skill points weren't tied into your level system and making it separate to earn for only as the character you play as and not as a whole. Would've been better in my opinion
I'm waiting to see if this ends up being half price on Black Friday. Considering that Guardians of the Galaxy was released on October last year and was then on sale for about $26 on Black Friday at Gamestop makes me think its seriously possible.
@@theoutsiderjess1869 It was good but it also didn't sell that well; at least not when it first came out. I think Avengers left a bad taste in people's mouths so they held off on Guardians. When word of mouth started getting around that Guardians was actually pretty good, it was probably past when it had its prime money making opportunities.
Wait for black Friday, it should be about 30 dollars. It is actually really fun when I learned how to play it. It is similar to Spiderman Miles Morales play style with an Assassian Creed Odyssey fight style. Performance is spotty, graphics are great.
@@josephruffin6360 Thanks, I enjoyed both of the Spider-Man games. I'm also wondering if they will make some improvements to the game as time goes on similar to what they did with Cyberpunk.
it's definitely not for everyone maybe when it's smoothed out more people might go back but at it's core if that's not your game this won't be. I like not being the ultimate batman but pieces of him that all work if you stay with that character. batgirl seemed to be the weakest when I first got her but after a few levels her move set opened up more and I found her to be super fun after. story is very comic like which can be good or bad. I'm currently 24 plus hours in and I think I only did like 5 story missions
Gotham Knights is the other side of Saints Row's coin. Saints Row is a hollow, manufactured feeling product. Gotham Knights is full of passion but misses the mark. Its good ideas feel hollow despite the clear intentions on the part of the devs. You can tell they tried and that there's heart put into it (unlike Saints Row), but it falls short. The combat is fun but shallow and traversal for everyone except Batgirl feels off. Graphically it's good but not what you'd expect out of a triple A title (although the lighting system is legitimately fantastic). It's got an awful and overly complicated gear system and ugly, clunky UI. And lack of a performance mode is strange. Overall the game feels floaty and unpolished. But there's so much there to work with and build from. It's really not as bad as some of these reviews suggest. There's fun to be had, and the story does a lot of heavy lifting. Just temper expectations and you'll have a good time. This reminds me of the first Assassin's Creed. Great ideas, great concept, mediocre execution. But a sequel could really nail it.
I think it’s fun. It’s satisfying to patrol Gotham and stop thugs. And the writing for characters is a little cheesy but overall good. I really dislike the wonky feeling traversal though.
@@jamesgratz4771 I really feel like they were overthinking how to implement Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood into an open world way too much. All they had to do was make the grappling they already have faster and snappier, and create a legitimate parkour system similar to AC. That would have been enough to make exploring Gotham as cape-less heroes work. The glider, transportation and mystical leap are unnecessary and feel very off.
If you’re a fan of the bat family you’ll like it. The only thing really holding it back is optimization/performance. For that reason I cannot recommend it to everyone. Even mid tier PCs struggle to maintain a decent frame rate. Sadly it’s a story of devs being forced to try and make something run on old consoles (was never going to happen) instead of focusing on new ones.
I hate when people say if you’re a fan of.. I’m a fan of the batfamily and this isn’t something I like. It depends on what you like about the batFamily. If you just like them and don’t care about anything else, sure. But if you like them based on characterization and story, then this may not be for you. For example, this Jason is not for me.
This game was DOA from the very beginning, the obvious stain is too large to ignore. This game was obviously meant to be a live service game. And the devs had to pivot direction when the avengers game failed. A court of owl centric storyline involving the bat family without Batman is an awesome concept for a game. But it was wasted, hopefully one day we can see a proper court of owls story with the bat family as a game.
Eh. People hated it from day one because “old game good new game bad.” It wasn’t Arkham and didn’t have Batman so therefore bad . Everything else was just icing on the Reddit cake
Saying the the combat and enemy design is miles morales is kind of wrong I think. Because Arkham knight had enemies kitted out with gear and attacks like the one you was facing. Also Spider-Man just took Arkham’s combat and just added swinging into it…
To be fair, the game does state that in order for more premeditated crimes to show up the next night. You have to collect clues by stopping small crimes. Extra larger crime operations will even show up during the same night depending on the amount of clues you collect. So while you start with three large crime operations, there's a good chance five or so will pop up if you collect more clues. But as you said, it is rather tedious but as you progress the story line. More unique small crimes will show up with some even set up to ambush you.
I got the game last night and played all night to 3 am with my buddy co-op. I’ve watched and read multiple reviews good and bad. Honestly so far I like the game. I think a lot of people are getting far too hung up on thee fact that it’s not as good as arkham, which I understand. But its also not trying to be an arkham game. The one thing i find silly is that their unique travel mechanics are locked behind a skill tree. It makes sense for some of them, since it’s like oh you need expertise to engineer this thing, but batgirl not knowing how to glide, for example seemed weird
Man, all of the traversal cutscenes were kinda wonky except for Red Hood's and his was even goofier than the rest of Bat fam xD. I'm loving the game. Playing with my bro, but Batgirl just going, "Huh... oooh.... huh.. Ahh? Huh!" with the iPad was just hilarious to me.
His tought on the matter is completely worthless also considering that most of those games are getting 60fps next gen versions becasue playing at a higher frame rate is just objectively better.
When you review a game either play it more or learn its mechanics through other sources.Xp is shared among the 4 characters...so you dont need to grind all 4 to unlock their talent trees
He was saying you have to grind them individually to unlock their Knighthood, which is largely pointless because they are all slower than just using the magic materialising Batcycle.
Honestly, i feel the game is pretty decent. Not great , but not bad either. With future optimization patches and DLCS , i can see this game become one of the most loved one and underrated.
"I'm trying to give this game a fair shake" is like saying "i'm tryint to belive my wife when the shirtless guy in my bedroom is just the "poolguy" even though we don't have a pool and its clear he was busy with my wife"
So basically, the devs decided: "let's remove what made the Arkham games cool and put some mobile gameplay mechanics to pad the game time as much as possible to a point where some kids might pay for the cool stuff with real money (even if they dropped the actual real money part)". Amazing, graphics and performance are just the cherry on top, even if the game ran better, there is no "bug fix" for the gameplay loop.
I don’t think the low frame rate on its own is the reason people dismiss the game when they see the gameplay. AAA games are expected to make up for what they lack in creativity in technical quality. You brought up red dead redemption 2s frame rate as an example of a game that doesn’t need a high frame rate to be good but red dead redemption 2 was one of the most impressive looking games of the 8th generation. It still was very technically impressive. Arkham knight was able to look infinitely better than Gotham Knights at 30fps on a base ps4 and that game was built in unreal engine 3. Seeing the low frame rate and dismissing the game does not mean that refuse to play every game that doesn’t have a high frame rate. For many it may simply be a refusal to give one’s money to big game studios when they are being lazy.
I actually quite like the night system. Especially when you play on the hardest difficulty, part of the challenge is prioritizing which crimes you're going to stop and doing as much as you can on your patrol before you use up all your healthpacks and the thugs you fight whittle you down to the point that even trying to stop a small mugging is potentially dangerous. It adds a risk/reward element where you can gain the rewards for another stopped crime but suffer the penalties of being defeated if you fail.
Yeah it's definitely not worth full price it's definitely fun but I still play arkham knight til this day and it's a much more detailed game even though it's older
I get the argument that “it’s not an Arkham sequel” and everything, but how did they manage to make the combat this bland? Rocksteady had the same characters and made each of them feel unique with the free flow system and this same studio made Arkham Origins which was on par with Rocksteady. It just blows my mind.
It’s not the fact that it’s 30 fps on consoles that’s stopping me personally it’s more the fact they waited a week b4 to talk about it and not a grand scale but on their discord server…
All the characters are not even remotely the same. Their talents and momentum skills really set them apart. By the end of the game, you have 4 or 5 momentum bars and should be using them a lot. You can also clear the main story in 7-10 hours which is the best experience per time if you are in a hurry to get more levels. All the reviews have been overly harsh in my opinion. My son bought it and shared it with me and I have been pleasantly surprised.
Thank you, almost everyone I see dogging it and saying the characters play the same, only talk about the main attacks. Ok sure they all punch, they all have ranged, however the skills is what sets them apart. They all do NOT have the same set of skills at ALL. Red hood is really focused on guns and crit damage, Robin is stealth/predator type attacks. He can string people up on perches and take out big brawlers with stealth attacks. Other characters cannot. Red hood cannot take them out, however in a fight he can grab the bigger enemies and grab them place a mine on it and then can shoot it to detonate it. No other character can do that. ......failing to see how they are the same. That's just me I guess *shrugs*
I've quit enjoyed this game. Is it game of the year ,no. Is it one of the best games I've ever played, no. But do I think its a good game & a fun game. I don't get the hate honestly.
Loving the game solo, and co op with a buddy, the side missions really blew me away, no spoilers but the one side mission for a certain chilly foe was unexpected. The easter eggs and little comments made around the city about your character (got asked if I was Deathstroke playing as red hood) really make it more immersive than I expected. The devs really put in some thought into the story and details in the city. Go in with an open mind and you might enjoy it, also for my biggest complaint would be the combat can be slow at times, but that's because I just came off of playing Arkham Knight and you can zip around a whole room in seconds.
Co-op worked from the get go for my friend and I on Steam, so I guess it was the lucky few it worked for =) Also the further you get into the game, the more premeditated crimes are available, I have seen 5-8 crimes in progress, with co-op it's even faster as you can take one each and just do a round on the map. So it's not as tedious as it might seem at first =) With New Game+, choose a new character and you can do it while doing the main/side missions. Also AI hiding, notice the icons over their heads, which is "fear" so they run away and hide from you etc. Characters do actually play differently, once you unlock abilities, again. I appreciate people doing Reviews/Previews of games, but most of the time, it seems like people do not really take the time to learn about the mechanics, and just give it a poor review, or bash things that they don't try and learn =) To me it seems like you, and other youtubers/streamers go into the game already biased with negativity, and then make a video about it. I think it's quite sad, and it's a reason why I always play games myself to make up my own mind. Issue comes down to when people have higher number of viewers, and keeping them from playing a good/decent game (not just gotham knights) spreading false information, or biased information.
Calling it false information is a reach. Just because a system is obtuse and not figured out in the first 5 hours of gameplay doesn’t mean the reviewer is “spreading false information.” Chances are high many people didn’t figure that out until grinding the basic abilities, aka it was represented accurately. All that aside the game just runs like ass so it doesn’t matter how mediocrely satisfying the systems eventually become for those of you with low expectations.
Funny how console players spend years defending 30 fps lock, saying it makes no difference at all. Now they get outraged when a game is only at 30fps. Make it make sense lol
The more the game goes on the more I'm digging it. At first I was feeling underwhelmed but the story and characters are feeling way more different. Might not be a game for everyone but feels like it's for me lol also you don't just get 3 premeditated crimes a night you just haven't done enough in the world to unlock more for the next night
Gives ability points 39 - leveling 4 - Each character's Knighthood questline 1 - 60 batarangs 1 - 12 street art 1 - 40 historic sites 1 - All training exercises 1 - 5 talon stashes You should have 1 extra ability point if you get them all Does NOT give ability points| All Batcycle races All Character Trials All Voice logs (Secret caches) All Identity compromised All Villain files All Historia Strigidae All character stories
A little bit of non-intentional misonformation here regarding pre-meditated crimes. If you have none at the start of the night. You go do the live crimes (small white triangles,) and you scan the enemies to find the informant (has a question mark above their head.) You grab them, and interrogate them, and they should mark a pre-meditated crime on the map. Along with doing pre-meditated crimes, interrogating or defeating informants gives you clues that build up your "clue bar" for the night (the red bar with the red magnifying glass.) And to my knowledge the more bars you get the more pre-meditated crimes you'll have the next night, but it still is a somewhat random amount. Usually if I get 12 bars I can get anywhere from 5-11 pre-meditated crimes the next night. Get it was non-intentional, but also a downside of needing to push a review out. Not being able to really get in depth with game mechanics. Pre-meditated crimes are rough after awhile if you can't handle repetition.
The cutscenes in this game is amazing the choreography on the action and the story is pretty good I can’t complain but the gameplay itself just looks so generic as soon as I saw that goofy ass spirit jump and fortnite glider I knew this game was gonna be hella goofy It’s just a shame cause this game could’ve been cooler if it was more gritty and realistic and emphasize on hand to hand combat with a blend of gadgets it’s okay if it’s alittle goofy but having the gadgets act like powers? Yeah, idk that just never seemed right with the bat family
I completely disagree. The gameplay is the only thing keeping me playing because the cutscenes, world building and characters are so bad and cringe. I knew something was up near the very beginning of the game. Batman tells the sidekicks that the police are corrupt and can’t be trusted since Jim died. One of the first missions you’re sneaking through GCPD and hear two cops talking. They’re saying how this freak they took in did something awful outside of one of their kids schools and one of the cops says something like “I’d pay money to get some alone time with that freak” but he gets talked down and decides not to. These are the evil corrupt Gotham police? They’re making the morally and professionally correct decision based on their rules while they’re alone in the GCPD? It was just really weird
It’s really interesting when certain games come out and you really get to see just what kind of gamer a person, or yourself, is. Technical issues yeah, there’s plenty and that’s something that can usually be fixed or adjusted, valid complaints Ofcourse, but the main issue I see people have is that it’s not arkham and it’s the dumbest thing ever. Judge the game for what it is and is trying to be not what you want it to be because then you’re as bias as anyone that likes the game just because it’s a Batman game. For me it’s been super fun, I’ve enjoyed the combat, the banter, the running around the city with my friend and doing cool stuff together, it’s checked a lot of boxes for me, watching gameplay had me concerned I wouldn’t like the combat but for me it felt way more fluid playing it and I’m still getting comfortable with the system and attacks. You can like what you like or don’t but don’t spread misinformation or bash the game for things it’s not tryna do. The chars definitely have a different feel even from the start of the game like if you really wanna be that way go play Arkham knight and press the same buttons with those chars and really ask yourself does it just look different or actually feel different. People already corrected the crimes thing and needing to interrogate which was a massive oversight in trying to upplay the “grind”. The game is very intentional with its use of the belfry and for me it’s added to the immersion because you do what you do and you go back to gear up and prep for the next night and come back with better stuff. It’s not that big a wait between, a lot of these complaints just feel so nitpicky and biased but you’re gonna feel however you feel at the end of the day. I’ve had these arguments with people miscalling naruto shinobi strikers thinking it’s a xenoverse 2 clone when it’s not trying to be, so it’s funny I’m in a similar situation with this game. But yeah go into it with a fresh mindset and see it for what it is and you might not be as disappointed as you think. Tech issues aside they’ve really got something goin here and I hope they expand on and polish it up even more, sorry so long. 😅
30fps looks quite bad on many OLED screens due to pixel persistence. Nicer OLED screens can simulate the LCD duty cycle by inserting black frames to make things looks smoother and some can interpolate between frames at the cost of input lag. As OLED becomes standard over time, 30fps will really show its age.
Is this why the game looks broken on my oled? It really does look like slow motion and motion sickness is around the corner. I even moved it to 100fps and nothing changed.
So they said the performance was capped to 30fps on consoles because of the co op, but yet in singleplayer on a PC with specs FAR above any console, the performance is barely hanging in there? Sheesh.
The thing is once you play a game at 60 it's hard to go back to 30 for a lot of people. Myself included. Those masterpieces that ran on 30 frames were also pushing new ground in their fidelity usually. We've kind of plateaued on fidelity and now people want their games to run better above be shinier. And Gotham definitely is lacking a lot of the soul that Arkham Knight had. The way the vehicle is spawned in is a great example of that. In Arkham Knight it roars with an echo down a roadway as your camera turns to watch it swing into view and you jump in. In this game it literally just... materializes before you.
In Arkham asylum, Batman could do 4 things: hit, counter, glide, throw batarang. How is it that those four basic things 15 years later are the hardest and most unsatisfying things to achieve in a game all about those four things
Definitely. this game never stood a chance because Arkham fans had already decided it was bad before it even came out. It's a very fun game and i can't wait to see what content gets added in the future.
So they brought back the systems from Origins where you HAD to complete a few special objectives. But instead of using actual skills, it looks like you need to complete side objectives on the map… to earn the ability to glide, something that Batgirl can do in the Arkham Knight’s expansion… Again, I’m asking: why must she earn the ability to glide?
I’ve actually really been enjoying this game so far. I personally don’t care about bugs as long as their not game braking. Yes, the performance sucks, however, all games used to run like this only 5 years ago so when you think about it, it shouldn’t ruin your whole experience. I’m a huge Batman fan so I decided to buy this game at launch but if you wait for a sale and some patches then you’ll most likely enjoy this game
You do not have to reset the night to get more premeditated crimes, you just interrogate the enemies with question marks above their heads and new ones appear in the city. Knighthood can literally be completed in one night
This is definitely one of those "wait a couple years till all the kinks are worked out and its on a deep sale" kinda games
Kinda like Arkham Knight was? I still remember when that game was released lol, it trashed on so much
Or you can play a better game from your back log. This doesn't seem to be worth of a try even on PS+ type of service, simply not worth the time.
@@Jay9966 well except there was a great game beneath the horrendous technical issues unlike this game.

Calling in the Batmobile in Arkham Knight always felt badass. It never got old. Doing the tank stuff did but just driving around felt very Batman.
I loved the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. I even liked some of the combat with it until it started getting annoying & repetitive. But that cloudburst tank can go drive over a cliff.
I’m sorry but that was one for the worst parts of the game for me. It felt more like a chore than a fun time imo
@@kbrownevan Driving the batmobile was a chore? I can only imagine how much worse the Batbike must be for you.

Yeah glad you pointed that out. Also combat is timing based “timed strikes”.

What you said doesn't contradict what he says in the video tho
@@meurer13daniel it’s at 6:10 he says it only generates 1-3 a night but if he would interrogate and do the non premeditated crimes around the city he would fill up the meter and go back and he would have ten crimes the next night it doesn’t take multiple nights in game/ real life hours
With having to reset the night once you run out of premeditated crimes issue
if you complete a smaller crime, and interrogate one of the enemies with a ? above their head, they will tell you about another premeditated crime happening in the city

@@x0gucx lol that's your opinion which is subjective not facts. Let other people enjoy the game
Yes, you do have to reset the night when you run out of crimes to do but you can do up to like 10 or so crimes to get more you have to do the smaller ones and interrogate the “interrogatable” npc. That’s how you do nights with 10 or so crime encounters
I was gonna comment the same thing. I usually have between 8 and 10 a night.

Love this game
It’s not as bad as everyone is saying but I was the same way until I realized it’s not in the Arkham knight universe. Gothem knights is its own game .

I needed to get "my" hands on the game to test drive it. What I immediately noticed is that the "dead" city that Skill Up harped so much about was a straight up lie. In Arkham Knight, where is the fully working traffic system & trolley system? Where are any pedestrians walking about outside?
Performance is sh**, shadows are flashing(In my case), Ray tracing makes stutters,
you sure it's "not great"?
But yeah, it can be fun... unless you play on very unbalanced hard difficulty and enemies literally cheat trough the mechanics just to kill you...
14:50 After giving the game some time and unlocking their abilities, they all DO play VERY differently
Can you do another run through the campaign after doing new game plus?
@@orngbutrcream3767 I'm not sure if you can replay missions. I have yet to complete New Game+.
There is an option to start a "New Game," but I believe there is only one Save Slot, so I don't want to test it right now.
Batgirl is going to be the best character for that raid mode. She is a combat, stealth, support and Medic character.
I think if the performance wasn't an issue and the movement was more responsive and fluid, I would like it a lot more.
we need rocksteady for another batman
Game is hella fun in co-op, especially if you're just looking to run around and blow off steam. Can't really recommend for pure single-player, but worth it with a friend (mileage may vary, ofc)
Personally only been playing in single player and have been having a blast
Me and the boys are disappointed it's not 4 player co-op. Also the lack of cross-play and cancellation of the last gen version messes us up too lol
@@vrASMR180 Extremely fair. I guess I “lucked out” with having one friend interested who happened to be on the same platform, but it’s def unfortunate for a general squad
@@bleppyboo5969 I think I gotta get further in, still in the really early stages. Gonna dive back in solo tonight thanks to this comment
@@vrASMR180 I’m pretty sure they’re working on adding 4 player co-op to release in December
I am so glad I pre-ordered this game. I am having such a great time with it. My buddy and I have been playing and it's such a blast. It looks amazing and is a lot of fun. That's all I care about.
I played co-op with my friend for 7 hours straight on launch day. Literally zero issues.

at 10:18 AI isn't dumb they were induced with fear which makes them less likely to wanna fight and they'll sometimes run away. For an actual proper review you need to understand everything about the game first.
I think I’ll wait for the day it goes on sales 😌

I'd like to add some clarity (if you find this comment). If you are grinding to get your knighthood you can most certainly get all ten crimes in a single night. All you have to do is interrogate one of the random enemies thrown about the city. It will then place a new crime on your map - that being said it does and will take a good amount of time, but I hope this helps some people. The game has its ups and downs. Luckily the story is one of its ups
I’m absolutely loving the game despite the few bugs I’ve seen. The traversal felt a bit too slow at first but I’ve gotten used to it after playing over the weekend
Word to your mother bro
5:40 I think the complaint about how long it takes to get knighthood is a little exaggerated. If you interrogate an informant goon it will give you a new event to do. I think it caps out at 5-6 per knight and it makes enough clues to max out the next night after the first, took me a little under an hour for each of them. But I assume it can happen naturally over time if it’s not your main goal.
exactly he doesn't understand it took me and my gf bout 30-40min
I've gotten 10 total for the max so it's really fast tbh
Right my friend and I
Both unlocked ours at level 5 and we were playing for almost an hour
Also the "shotgun blast" attack is the same for all characters bc it's meant to be used as a counter for certain enemies later in the game
Gaurdians of the Galaxy was good so thats surprising
@@joshalan5125 I hope so, but I'm still enjoying the game
it's definitely not for everyone maybe when it's smoothed out more people might go back but at it's core if that's not your game this won't be.
@@miguelitoreyes5514 for sure
If you’re a fan of the bat family you’ll like it. The only thing really holding it back is optimization/performance. For that reason I cannot recommend it to everyone. Even mid tier PCs struggle to maintain a decent frame rate. Sadly it’s a story of devs being forced to try and make something run on old consoles (was never going to happen) instead of focusing on new ones.
Yea they shoulda just scrapped it earlier on old gen would have been better for people having issues with performance
@@jamesgratz4771 or it was the fact that it was a avengers live service game with a Batman skin and that’s not what people wanted

Nobody talks about the momentum system, which adds a little more skill to normal Batman combat
Nobody talks about the positives because it doesn't sell on RUclips.
Saying the the combat and enemy design is miles morales is kind of wrong I think. Because Arkham knight had enemies kitted out with gear and attacks like the one you was facing. Also Spider-Man just took Arkham’s combat and just added swinging into it…
The whole ui/menu just makes the whole game feel like a mobile game
Fortnite either
No
Because it is.
And an incredibly cheap mobile game at that. There are many mobile games that have better menus and UI designs than this one.
I started to wait before getting the game decided to get it and I enjoy it alot. I’ve glitched a few times and crashed once or twice but overall it’s been incredibly fun especially with co-op.

All those game you mentioned weren’t released during a time when 60FPS was feasible on consoles. No excuses
30 fps targets in this generation are unacceptable, end of story
His tought on the matter is completely worthless also considering that most of those games are getting 60fps next gen versions becasue playing at a higher frame rate is just objectively better.

When you review a game either play it more or learn its mechanics through other sources.Xp is shared among the 4 characters...so you dont need to grind all 4 to unlock their talent trees
This isn't a review it's more of an impression video
He was saying you have to grind them individually to unlock their Knighthood, which is largely pointless because they are all slower than just using the magic materialising Batcycle.

Think you should use afterburner for performance portions of the videos. It's much more detailed and also is activated with a button click.
Yeah I'm skeptical about this one
What WB did could be construed as deceptive advertising of the product.
Probably gonna get this with my sister when it goes on sale. Doesn’t seem like I’d be happy to spend $60 on it but for 30-40? Looks solid.

I get the argument that “it’s not an Arkham sequel” and everything, but how did they manage to make the combat this bland? Rocksteady had the same characters and made each of them feel unique with the free flow system and this same studio made Arkham Origins which was on par with Rocksteady. It just blows my mind.
Exactly! Same studio that made Arkham origins which had damn good combat like probably the Second best in the franchise behind knight
Robin plays very differently even early on imo
"below the like button" - luke must have been studying marques' ways
Thank you. Did not want to have to buy it to see if it is worth it.
Co-op worked from the get go for my friend and I on Steam, so I guess it was the lucky few it worked for =)
Also the further you get into the game, the more premeditated crimes are available, I have seen 5-8 crimes in progress, with co-op it's even faster as you can take one each and just do a round on the map.
I appreciate people doing Reviews/Previews of games, but most of the time, it seems like people do not really take the time to learn about the mechanics, and just give it a poor review, or bash things that they don't try and learn =)
To me it seems like you, and other youtubers/streamers go into the game already biased with negativity, and then make a video about it.
😂😂
"They'll probably patch that later." Sure, but that's unacceptable. It was sold on a feature that doesn't work on launch. F that.
The more the game goes on the more I'm digging it. At first I was feeling underwhelmed but the story and characters are feeling way more different.
The cutscenes in this game is amazing the choreography on the action and the story is pretty good I can’t complain
but the gameplay itself just looks so generic
as soon as I saw that goofy ass spirit jump and fortnite glider I knew this game was gonna be hella goofy
It’s just a shame cause this game could’ve been cooler if it was more gritty and realistic and emphasize on hand to hand combat with a blend of gadgets it’s okay if it’s alittle goofy but having the gadgets act like powers?
I love the look and gameplay style this game is trying to do. It does look bugged, so I'll wait. But I can see myself enjoying it when it's working.
Yeah. I've finished the plot so i definitely recommend it. But maybe wait for some of the bugs to get patched. It's a good time though
I honestly am playing it and enjoying it so far tbh
The game is amazing cant stop playing
I’m loving this game from graphics to gameplay and the story.

@@caesarion4596 you alright bro
So they said the performance was capped to 30fps on consoles because of the co op, but yet in singleplayer on a PC with specs FAR above any console, the performance is barely hanging in there? Sheesh.
This game is amazing! They are doing more updates and patches as well! So good!
Nightwing’s Knighthood travel ability is pretty sweet. Probably my favorite of all four characters.
In Arkham asylum, Batman could do 4 things: hit, counter, glide, throw batarang. How is it that those four basic things 15 years later are the hardest and most unsatisfying things to achieve in a game all about those four things
Love the game. One of my personal favorites this year. Bandwagon hate is real with this one
Not for 70$ maybe 40 or 30 but not worth a next generation price.
Definitely. this game never stood a chance because Arkham fans had already decided it was bad before it even came out. It's a very fun game and i can't wait to see what content gets added in the future.
So they brought back the systems from Origins where you HAD to complete a few special objectives. But instead of using actual skills, it looks like you need to complete side objectives on the map… to earn the ability to glide, something that Batgirl can do in the Arkham Knight’s expansion…
Again, I’m asking: why must she earn the ability to glide?
Was super fun watching the livestream, keep up the great work Luke and I'll see you in the stream!
YESS. Loved all your coverage of this game leading up to launch and been waiting for your video on it now that it’s out
You do not have to reset the night to get more premeditated crimes, you just interrogate the enemies with question marks above their heads and new ones appear in the city. Knighthood can literally be completed in one night
