The cx60 was launched june9 2023, and I got mine last august 2023. It had very few local reviews back then but I still bought the car for what it has and understood what it hasn’t. I didn’t buy it for the daily drive in the city traffic even if the reviews said that fuel consumption was better than the cx5 ( I didn’t believe it). The cx60 I think is best in long drives where you can appreciate the comfort, the fuel efficiency, the driving engagement and engine power. When I drive in the city I turn off the I-stop function to eliminate the transmission hesitancy and I don’t mind the difference in fuel consumption because it is not much difference whether I-stop is on or off in the city. What Caco said about transmission is true but what he failed to say is that when I-stop is off the transmission hesitancy is few and far in between (at least for my experience). The review of the ride quality is true but if you plan to buy this car it should be expected because the engine is powerful and I think it is unsafe to put very soft suspension on such a powerful inline 6 but I think it can be improved with smaller wheels may be 18s. As I have said, I bought mine because of what it has and understood what it has not ( no car is perfect anyway), I am very satisfied with my cx60. My advice for potential buyers is to look at it and test drive it with no prejudgment or bias because it is very easy to compare it to other luxury cars and previous Mazda models, the car is not for everyone but if you think it’s for you then go for it!
Came across this page for the first time, watching all the way from South Africa and I must say I love your style & personality you put into your reviews - you are one of the best I have seen world-wide.
Appreciate the honest review on the transmission. It's really disappointing to hear that jerkiness on a Mazda. I can't believe that they change from torque converter transmission to a DCT.
Had mine since October. The only thing I don’t like is the consistency of the driver id. It works only 60 percent of the time for me. Ride is a lot harsher than the SK forester which I also own which is really really plush, but you get used to it. Note that when I say harsh , you feel the road. That said, everything is dampened and muted. Some switches are plasticky but it’s not really a big deal. You eventually learn how to take off smoothly with the transmission which is can be jerky initially especially coming from a cvt. I do drive with the iStop feature turned off as it only saves a very very minor amount of fuel but a majority of jerkiness is eliminated right away. In any case, all is forgiven when you overtake most everything in metro Manila at only 2000 rpm. That 6 cylinder is worth it, believe you me. I would have bought a CX-8 but all the goodies you get for around 600k makes the step up a no brainer. This car should easily cost more considering everything that comes with it. It's a gas guzzler in traffic and gets around 4.5 km/L per tank in pure city driving. But then again, if you're fretting about gas prices, you shouldn't be looking at this car and get something smaller with a sub 2.0L engine. Oh yeah, I used to get flagged down on coding days when i first got this but since December my flag downs are down to zero. Having an LTO compliant 'hybrid' green temporary plate helps a lot.
The hybrid monicker is a joke. It’s a mild hybrid in Mazda’s international website as well as other countries. Mazda has talented lobbyists who convinced DOE, LTO (probably lining their pockets in the process).
I am glad about the honest transmission view, was only worried about the stiff suspension being the main topic from Western Auto Media’s feedback but with the horrendous traffic crawl we need to do here in the Philippines, I think we need a smoother operation of the transmission.
Great video, there were some issues early on in the release cycle, CX 60s built post September 2023 have these shortcomings addressed via various software updates, revised dampers and a change to the rear prop shaft.
Awesome review as ever! I still feel like the CX-8 is the best value is Mazda's line up - 7-seater, powerful, spacious, and good feature set. That being said, seeing the CX-60 and CX-90 in person, one cannot deny the sort of "majesty" they exude. Thanks Autodeal!
I agree with everything you said and I trust that Mazda will take all of this feedback onboard and that the next update will be so much better. I waited for so long to purchase a CX-60 Azami PHEV (in Australia) but was very disappointed when I drove the car. I ended up purchasing a CX-5 Akera Turbo which is also a fantastic vehicle. I will happily upgrade to a CX-60 in the next few years once Mazda addresses all of the issues.
Finally, a Diesel hybrid. I’m considering a ‘25 model to replace a ‘00 Toyota Revo. I’ve been doing exhaustive research on Tuscan, CR-V, RAV4, and CX-5. When I went to Mazda Cebu to eyeball the CX-5, I learned about the CX-60D. I would have even preferred a tiny diesel that only powered the generator. The diesel sips fuel, will idle all day without overheating and electric performance is well documented. In California, my Dodge/Cummins 4X4 MegaCab and my Porsche Cayenne are diesel. Performance and fuel efficiency is so impressive. My only concern with the Mazda are the 20” wheels on the harsh Cebu roads.

people think mazda has stiffer suspension compare to others but it's not. they just have low profile wheels which makes your feel and hear the bump. But if you really look in to it like the cx90 with 21inch rim, the suspension are really good given the size of the rims compare to other suv. My cousin was following me in a pickup with big tires and good suspension while i was driving our cx9 2024 at night towards province. He was familiar with the road and thought the bumps and pot holes on the road was fixed since he didn't see my car moved at 60kph, and then suddenly they were shook inside the pickup. CX90 is my next target in couple of year. hopefully by then it will be perfected.

Very entertaining review. Test drove the CX-60 inline 6 in New Zealand. I expected a 2024 vehicle at this price point to have a digital rear view mirror, connected services, highway assist to name a few and CX-60 has non of these. Also, the wireless charger did not have a proper grip with the phone, and the rear passenger entrance is a tight squeeze. Hope Mazda would fix these in the next iteration.
