Why do they sit there and wait forever at full power before takeoff?

I can only assume it is too make sure the engines are OK..... are they waiting for something to go POP!
There is a thread here to look at.... www.pprune.org/tech-log/349833-why-does-antonov-wait-4-minutes-engines-50-before-take-off.html

It may have appeared since the time of the An-124 crash in Irkutsk in 1997. Then, at take-off, it immediately stalled 3 engines. The plane fell on the residential area. The reason for the failure of the engines to find out finally failed. Whether the ice in the fuel was and blocked the tube, or something else. It was in the winter in Siberia in the terrible 90's. Probably since then they are first tested on the ground.

I wish! They come when something BIG needs to be delivered. Luckily we do get a few throughout the year.
