    My mind on this video...🤯
    This was exactly what I needed to aid creative teaching for a child with Down Syndrome. Thank you!

    This was an AWESOME explanation. I've been reading a bunch of things on linguistics, semantics, semiotics, pragmatics, etc and while I understand the general distinctions I keep forgetting which is which and what their precise functions are. This made it crystal clear. Thanks much!

      Hijodeganas1 Wow, thanks for the enthusiasm! I'm definitely glad you're able to peek behind these terms and distinguish the phenomena they label. Even some linguists aren't that clear!

    Nope, but you do need to work on your comedy.
    Unless you were just going for the personal attack, then touché. I'm definitely working on my presentation skills!
    More importantly, what are your thoughts on the TOPIC?

    I love you people, NativLang. I'm doing my PhD on semiotics, semantics and cuneiform, and your stuff is making me incredibly happy. Thank you!

    Does your school have a course catalog? Anyone you can call / e-mail to get a description?
    If you don't do that, you can at least google +"semantics and logic" +"high school". Some info there.

    Sir I do think
    Buildings also have a meaning e.g
    If there is a building which is a factory or any building of businessmen, or traditional building so it also Carrie's a meaning, because when we see those buildings so we would understand that this is the building about trading or businessman's

      That's not the meaning of the building but the meaning of the signs on that building.

    The term "Stand for something" is interesting, does this mean, they stand in place of some other thing?

      @TheDavidlloydjones 8 лет назад +1

      No, it's not interesting. No, they're in different places.

    so if i connect a book with knowledge i will see it as a symbol of knowledge but if i connect it with stupidity it will be the symbol of supidity so i ask you will it stil be a knowledge giving thing because if it is that means there will stil be sound even somebody does not hear it but i dont think it is like that

    Answers to questions that obviously have answers: 1: No, words don't have property without someone to interpret them, that's just silly, and words that refer to universal relationships aren't the universal relationships themselves, unless it's the same shape 2: Yes, you do, but with senses also 3; No, for you could fake the external world by manipulating the internal world very easily. 4: YES!!! 5: In type 3, 2, 1 languages, some degree of context is needed therefore the form and meaning are separate, but type 0 languages has form and meaning 100% connected 6: Dictionaries are like a game of charade, it assumes that you already know at least some basics of the language. 7: A shared meaning across a group of people is how language is formed in the first place, dimwit. 8/9: Meaning is basically just something we value one way or in another, whether it lives in the real world or something we just imagine, but in truth, meaning is too fuzzy and non consistent that there's almost no chance that it really exist by itself
    There, happy?! I've answered your questions, now stop saying nonsensical rhetorical questions
