FANTASTIC VIDEO!! - Thanks so much putting this together! I completely refurbished an old Cyclone pinball machine during covid & ever since I completed it. I have a dream of designing my own & this helped so much with how to get started!
Yes finally! I’ve been struggling to just tweak existing tables, let alone start from scratch. So many rare tables need to be converted from VP9 to VPX and I want to give back to such an open sourced community by doing my part while also making sure it’s high quality. For example I’m working on an improved Orbitor 1 at a snails pace because I can’t get the outside perimeter wall to perfectly stop air balls from flying out of the playfield. Such a headache but videos like this are great for motivation to keep at it. Thanks Jack!
Certain VP9 only games are so obscure, that they are way down on people’s wishlist and haven’t been finished being converted to VPX. For example: Special Force, Rotation VIII, Rat Race, Motordome, Dinosaur Eggs, Global Warfare, AG Soccer Ball, Title Fight.
I realize you are not a VPv10 developer, and I appreciate the time you took to create this much-needed video. It didn't take much use of this software to begin noticing its limitations, areas for add'l features, and overall improvement. For example, "layers" needs a complete overhaul. Dual-screen mode with real-time rendered preview would be nice. AI-enabled ball path projection lines (to ferret out skill shots, ball traps, and dead zones) would be extremely handy. It's becoming a long list... perhaps others have recommendations as well.
Nothing is preventing you to fork it and apply said improvements. At it's core it's an old software that indeed would benefit form improvements, but anyone could add all this.
I’m glad to no how to start with this video.Still I would like to no how to add sounds, music and dmd mechanics.I got my virtual Pinball since februari and love it a lot.Got plenty of idea’s inspired by movies, cartoons,Music and videogames. Thanks for this video and have a Nice day😉
hi Jack... i remember when you were at the very start creating your table, and i pointed you to check what VP could do for you... and now this ! its a long way behind, and still a lot to do, but than congrats ;) i wish you success...
After more than a year with VPX installed I finally started to work on a table. It's powerful but still feel limited in the layout if you don't do primitives. Like I can't find a smart way to do scoops, or anything with a curve as a slope. Also a tips : unlock objects to move them on an example table
This gives ne a great overview. Trank you so much. Could you please make a secound one With an eye on the Script. The basics to create simple rules, maybe?
This is really great!! Hope you will do a series including making 3d-models, and more advanced pinball parts e.g. holes, grabs, IF [hits something] Light [something else, building up to an event such as multiball or jackpot], scoring model and DMD control. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for doing this. It's been a number of years since I've created anything in VPinball. Vpinball Beta 6 I believe. Nice to see some interface changes and improvements.
Thank you for sharing did not know you can make your own virtual pinball field layout I've built my own Em style pinball machine and I was thinking about doing a virtual pinball machine
This is a great video! Would be amazing to have a video showing how to add sidewalls to an existing table. Something I've never been able to grasp. Appreciate the content. Subbed.
@@DEADFLIP Thank you for the great tutorial mate ! I have 1 question if you can . When I make a ramp, its easy that the ball gets stuck behind it. What technique do I have to use, place a plunger behind the low end of the ramp or something ?(doesn't look really elegant though)
This is a really great video but I do have a question I hope you can answer How do you get that information on the right hand side of the editor All I have is the layers over there
Recently downloaded VPX. I'm only given one option to start a new table (no drop-down menu from 'new') It opens a new table with tons of ramps and objects. I would rather start with something a little less bare bones. Do people have starter tables I can DL on the Vp website?
Are there any virtual pinball programs that have more a visual design interface? Messed around with FuturePinball for awhile but looking at a hundred layers of wire-frame blueprints seems a little outdated & tedious. Would be nicer if there was just as advanced of a program that would let you drag & drop rendered elements in 3D. Im a coder, not an architect lol.
I was wondering the same thing. He had said in a stream that he designed the Jurassic Park home pin in VPX so I asked him on a couple other videos and Twitch stream if he would release it. He replied that he would see what he could do but it's up to Gary. So I guess it will never happen. I just wish some company would get license to all new stern games and create them so I can buy them. I will never be able to afford a real pin being disabled. FarSight Studios has/had the Stern pinball license for some tables wish they would continue them with all the newer tables.
Hey Jack, I’m new to pcs and visual pinball. Did you install visual pinball from the visual pinball forum or the one in your description. Just wondering if there is any difference
Can you adjust where the flippers, the in lanes, and slingshots are at the bottom of the playfield? Can you put other things down there, like pop bumpers? Can you use banana flippers?
@@DEADFLIP I bought a machine, and I'm renting another one right now. If I wanted to play other people over the internet, would I use the same stuff that would be used to stream pinball? I've never done either of those things. I started playing in tournaments and the local team bar league, the year before the pandemic, and I miss that whole human contact thing.
OMG. Wow. This is awesome. As I watched the video, I instantly started to think this would make a awesome STEAM experience for kids. Wondering if you can give input as to your thoughts of grade level abilities and is there a specific format and or dictionary for the code functions and writing style? Thanks.
Oooh this could be cool. This might be something where you let the kids place parts and you help fine tune! The code isn’t out of this world hard, but it can get there depending on what you’re trying to do.
Question related to VP. How do you adjust the strength of nudging on certain tables? I play on pc with keyboard and it's impossible to have control on the ball :c
Nudging with the keyboard is handled in the script. Look for the text "CenterTiltKey" in the script. There should be code that looks like "If keycode = CenterTiltKey Then Nudge 0, 2". Change the second number (2) to adjust the strength of the nudge. Do the same for "LeftTiltKey" and "RightTiltKey". My preference is to have a nudge strength of 5 for the center nudge and 4 for the sideways nudges.
This is the first time seeing this VP ever so please forgive my ignorance. Can I play this after I build it? And Can I actually build the game I created in real materials without having an electrical engineering degree? Thanks.
An explanation of what the "units" mean: 50 units = 1 pinball diameter = 1.0625 inches. 1 unit = 0.02125 inches, 1 inch ≈ 47 units
I can finally design my Bioshock Infinite pin
i'm going to use this, i'm building my own table, and this is what i was looking for.
thanks.

how do you convert from VP9 to VPX?
@@paulpolizzi3421 wish I Knew! Lol There are a couple of super prolific guys on vpforms like Goldchicco that do it all the time and make it look easy.

just perfect what the virtual pinballers have been waiting for many thanks
Awesome! Glad this series is finally making some headway! (time to start some homebrew ha ha)
Love the DnD background music. Thanks for the video my friend.
If you’re gonna have music, gotta go with the best!
@@DEADFLIP Like I was saying, funkiest music in pinball. Great tutorial.

If you want walls, just shape them with the “wall” tool! It’s pretty simple! 🤘🤘
