I’m all for this, but couldn’t agree more about it being tight and contained! Just the two of them on an awesome adventure that doesn’t have to tie into or rely on other characters to succeed.
Totally agree - I don't like it when it feels like they're filling in the blank spots or using Mando's popularity to plug upcoming new shows, or tie him into a larger story. Just let Mando and Grogu have their own adventure.
Honestly, the movie I’m looking the most forward to is that Dawn of the Jedi movie James Mangold is doing (if Mangold wasn’t already quietly fired after how Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny ended up being a box office disappointment).
The 4 movies I have ranked in anticipation: 1. Dawn of the Jedi 2. The Rey movie 3. The Mandalorian and Grogu movie (it might have been higher if it weren’t for how mediocre S3 was.) 4. The Filoni movie (after Ahsoka, I don’t have my full confidence in Filoni like I used to.)
He won’t be fired as it wasn’t really his fault with Indiana Jones. Disney bought the rights to Star Wars and Indiana Jones, and only one of those properties had games, comics, books, TV shows and movies year in year out, to introduce the franchise to a younger generation as well as satiating older fans as well. Whereas with Indy, the last thing we had was Crystal Skull, and pretty much radio silence, so it wouldn’t connect with younger audiences as much. And I’m not saying Indy is unknown but content certainly does help. Dial Of Destiny was well received by audiences and critics for the most part but again, hardly anyone knew it was released as the marketing wasn’t there over the years, hence why the box office numbers don’t track. His job is safe!
I have Dawn of the Jedi so low because it won’t be anything that is consistent with the force. The film looks to establish Disney Force. I don’t think they’ll explore the Whills or the spiritual/religious journey that can be great.
@@IsaacV24 The Rey movie will be horrendous, especially because of the director who's putting her political agendas and activism in the movie who also pretty much hates men. I hope it gets canceled, but only time will tell
She spoke about honor killings and acid attacks in Pakistan in an interview from FIVE YEARS AGO. She says she wants to make people uncomfortable in regards to Pakistani men who hated her documentary about the terrible things women have had to suffer through in her country. People need to stop running with that narrative, she wants to be the first female theatrical Star Wars director and is excited to shape that with a female lead, which makes sense. Anything else is BS being peddled online and has nothing to do with the actual subject, like the "Force is Female" NIKE MARETING for their AIR FORCE 1 release that people made into a Kathleen Kennedy bashing practice since she started wearing the shirt. Be critical of the film when it comes out, by all means, but we need to understand context and have some media literacy...
This is probably the wisest decision they could have made. The Mandalorian season 1 and even parts of 2 are some of the best Star Wars content put to screen. It was such a lightning in a bottle idea, and all they have to do now is NOT TO SCREW IT UP. Just make the film a simple sci fi adventure with these two characters, that’s all they need to do, focus on Mando and Grogu as the MAIJ CHARACTERS.
From what I understand, there was originally going to be a season 4 of the Mandalorian, but because interest in season 3 dropped off a cliff, they settled on a movie. I personally feel like the show could have ended at the end of season 2, and season 3 walked back on all the character resolution of season 2, but hey. I'd probably still watch this.
They really NEED audiences to come and watch the next film and I think, in this day and age, a Mando/Grogu movie coming out first would be much more appetising than a Rey movie or a James Mangold directed film after Indy 5s failure.
I find it funny that the Mando movie is likely going to be kinda similar to Cars 3. Hear me out: You have an initial hit that makes loads of money and is popular (I know Cars has some haters but I love it), you make a continuation that is SO different in story and tone and focuses on a completely different character out of nowhere (Cars 2: Mater, Mando S3: Bo), so you then make another continuation that goes back to literally EVERYTHING that worked the first time round (Cars 3: it was about Lightening McQueen again, it was a sports movie and Randy Newman was brought back to do the score instead of Michael Giacchino) Don't be surprised if Mando and Grogu ARE the main characters again, they bring back Ludwig Goranson to do the score instead of Joseph Shirley and they also bring back Greig Fraser etc.
Very much agree, I want the movie to lean more into season one. I’d love them to go full into space western territory. What I fear is that they might try to turn it into a movie series. Now if this had a slight tie in to the Ahsoka movie? Not as in directly flow into it, but lean towards it, I’d be okay
As long as they keep the budget modest and the story simple, this could be pretty great. This movie doesn't need Boba Fett, Bo Katan or any other Mandalorians. Just make a fun adventure movie that's accessible to people who haven't watched the show and get back to what fans enjoyed about the first season.
@@fundhund62 I found season 3 extremely disappointing and mediocre. The retaking of Mandalore was very anticlimactic to me, but hey, to each their own.
I'm excited, though I am skeptical as to the motivation behind this announcement (yes, I realize that the money is the motivation behind any project). Why wasn't this announced at Celebration last April? Was it simply not ready to be spoken about at the time, or was it not even on the Lucasfilm slate then? And how does this square with the statements made by Iger about slowing things down and not pumping out so much content. Now we have 4 movies coming out in relatively quick succession....is that slowing down? Layer the Disney+ shows on top of the theatrical releases and I struggle to see any sort of slowdown. And I'm with you, HG - let's keep this movie between Mando and Grogu. I don't mind of Bo-Katan shows up, or other Mandos, as they seem integral to Mando's identity and character motivations. But I don't really want to see Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Luke, etc etc in this film. They will all undoubtedly show up in Filoni's Mando-verse movie, so let's just keep this one neat & tidy.
Boy, I can’t wait for CGI monster Luke Skywalker and Leia to show up and blow up a few star destroyers that all have death star laser canons on them. Honestly I just rolled my eyes at this announcement. I really loved Mando s1 and 2, but season 3 really dropped the ball and i’m losing hope in the current direction Disney is moving. Maybe a proper movie will elevate it but I feel like the original appeal of Mando was the small scale, episodic stories they could tell. I’m just afraid the charm will be lost in a movie
I also kinda miss the long wait before more Star Wars which made the new movies so exciting when they were announced, I remember all the hype before Episode 7. And yes, I also agree that The Mandalorian was cool because it was all about this new character. While I think that season 2 was a lot more interesting than the first one, I missed that.
It will be terrible. Jon Favreau is a very business film maker. And it will definitely be filled with familiar characters. I might be wrong though. Might be surprisingly good.
I’m kinda expecting Mando S2/S3 quality, honestly. And EVERYONE showing up. Literally everyone HG doesn’t want. 😂 Just kinda average Filoni content. I definitely prefer Andor-something that actually has things to say over fan-service just existing.
We’d all want it to be a contained adventure, but let’s be honest, EVERYBODY is going to be there: Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Chewbacca, maybe even Cara Dune; and it’s either going to be the end of all the Disney+ shows or the beginning of a trilogy that will finish the stories of all of these characters and make a more seamless connection between the OT and the Sequels in an effort to fix them and bridge the gaps. Save this comment, maybe 🙃
Between Season 2 & 3 would have been ideal. I've honestly lost interest in the Mandalorian when it became clear he was no longer the main character. It's a safe bet movie in that Lucas Film wants to renew the faith in going to see a Star Wars movie.
The worst part about Disney Star Wars has been the lack of Quality Control. Lots of projects that should never have gotten made and lots of cancelled projects that would have been really interesting. Hopefully this is better than Mando season 2.
I hope they will go further in the direction of tying the "Mandoverse" in with the sequel trilogy. More world building, more Coruscant, more Elia Kane, more of the New Republic.
I personally think this movie is going to flop, regardless of it's actual quality. Disney is asking audiences to go out and buy tickets at a movie theater to watch a character that we're already used to watching at the comfort of our own homes. Most casual audiences are going to see that and think "well I don't have to see that now since its just going to be on Disney+ in a few months" and pass on it.
I really wish that movie could be like Mando season 1... But I don't think Filoni is capable of making a movie like this. He is less a real storyteller, more an operator of a Punch-and-Judy-show... "Heeeeeeeeewwo, children.... Looooooook, it's Ahsokaaaaaa...!!! 😲😲😲😲" *frantic cheering*
What does your comment have to do w/ this announcement? Jon Favreau is directing this Mando & Grogu film & going into production this year (& so presumably a reworking of his writing for S4 he previously said he’d done). Filoni’s film is a separate project announced @ Celebration along w/ the Mangold movie & Rey movie. Ahsoka is still in a completely different galaxy & Filoni is confirmed to be working on S2 to continue that story first.
If you think, Greedo, that Jon Favreau is an expert on Star Wars and think his film is gonna be any good, You're kidding yourself. Even when Jon had more control over Mando in the first two seasons, he caused just as much damage as Filoni and Kennedy did with their own projects. The characters in his two seasons didn't talk or act like Star Wars characters, he let several plot holes slide (Mando could've easily destroyed that one scout walker with his own ship as opposed to wasting time destroying it with more primitive methods), and he allowed the creation of Grogu, which was a betrayal to the character of Yoda and destroyed his uniqueness. Also, if you want more proof that Favreau is not that good of a filmmaker, go watch YMS' takedown of the Lion King remake. It doesn't matter whether or not that was a project Favreau wanted to do. That film was a complete embarrassment to his career and to the legacy of the original film. Jon is fine when it comes to the original Iron Man, but not with Star Wars, and I wouldn't want him to work on it ever again. I believe the only reason that people gave his material praise was that they were so jaded by what KK had done with the saga that anything that wasn't overseen by her didn't look as bad initially. However, once people were able to put their biases aside and take a more detailed look into Favreau's work on Star Wars, they began to realize that it wasn't that good in the first place and was still an insult to Lucas' legacy. My personal advice to you, Greedo, is to give up on Disney Star Wars and put up the helmet.
I feel whenever a new Star Wars show comes out now I’m always just hoping it isn’t bad, since last Jedi everything bar the animation shows has been hit and miss
