I recently got a G&L Tribute JB-2 bass in shell pink and I am really playing it a lot. even a bit more than my trusty G&L L-1000. Working on some jazz stuff so maybe I'm just letting the name jazz bass drive me. Actually enjoying the bridge pickup sound and the Jaco type of tone. I enjoy your bass videos and the fact that you actually respond to folks very polite of you. You are a very very good player.
I have this exact bass….picked it up off of G&L’s website for a steal and I absolutely love it. It also arrived perfectly setup with low action and plays beautifully. Yes it’s a tad heavy but not as heavy as my vintage Peavy T-40. Highly recommended….
Had mine for a few months and couldn't be happier with it! Actually ended up getting it for a paltry £389 on a price match from another store and for that sort of money this bass is ridiculous! Haven't found a pickup setting I don't like although I *love* the growl I'm getting from both open on about a 75% tone setting. It's a fantastic match for my quite old but very reliable Trace Elliot rig. The only thing I would say, just to make people aware, is that I did actually have to return the first one I bought. Had the same fret buzz you found here, the neck was indeed as straight as an arrow. Subsequently discovered that some clown at the factory had tightened the truss rod to the point of rounding out the bolt so it was completely immovable! Probably just an aberration and bad luck but something worth knowing for any prospective new buyers, I think. I'm sure that most people would get a pro setup done on a new instrument anyway so any QC issues would be quickly picked up.
Got one of these recently, after watching your great demo of this bass, its a fantastic sounding bass. I now know why you could hardly contain your excitement when first plugged in! Spot on! Any chance you can get your hands on the swamp ash body version, of the Tribute LB 100 for a demo? Keep up the great demos.Thanks.
I have this bass I got last year for jazz band and I love it every time I open the case I smile and when I pick it up and play it it feels so good like he said it balances extremely well on a strap and it is so comfortable to play. It is about $600 but it is worth the money and I would highly recommend it. But G&L has always been a great company in guitars and bass and stuff. But yeah if you are looking for a bass I would strongly recommend this one. And don’t even get me started on the color finish it looks great on camera but my lord it looks even better in person
Just got mine today. It was a shot in The dark on a trade. I'm surprised. Thought I'd see what others felt about it . I agree very nice bass guitar. No regrets.
Hey Juan, that might be possible, but it’s hard to tell because of the binding. As far as I know, it’s common practice to have 2 different pieces of wood for the neck and fretboard even if they are the same type of wood
@@IvanBassist Thanks for answering! Look, I'm a guitarist and I'm looking forward to starting buying that bass, that's why I came to your very good video. In fender maple, the fretboards and necks are in one piece, and I could detect that your bass is in two pieces because otherwise it would be impossible to insert the truss rod (it should have a mark on the back of the handle to make it a single piece). Thank you!
Hi Ivan! Great video! The sound is fantastic. Just the way I want to have. Please answer me, which bass you think is better, this G&L JB or Blade B1 Tetra (SW). If you didn't own Blade, they have specifications on internet. Your opinion would mean a lot to me.
Hi Goran, i just did a quick google search. Unfortunately I can’t really make any “valuable” comment about that because I haven’t played those basses, but the G&L JB is definitely a SOLID instrument
i know this video is older, but do you recall how bad/loud/annoying the single coil hum is when using each pickup solo? That is one this i can not stand about the J bass is the hum. I have not tried a G&L Jbass so wonder if they are better - thanks!
Hey there! I don’t remember, to be honest. I have the USA version of this bass at home with me at the moment (ruclips.net/video/biBj1hCnWV8/видео.html) and the hum is not that bad, but it’s definitely there. You could: 1) shield the tone control cavity better 2) get some noise cancelling J pickups
I am a longtime Fender fanboy- I got a screaming deal on one of these last year. And I agree- every bit as good and a hell of a better value than an American standard Fender. Total convert
The classic vibes are great, but I think you get higher quality with a G&L. Especially, because the tribute basses habe the same pickups and bridge as the USA models
Thank you for your answers:)! My original plan was to get vintage Jbass produced by japanese factories,(Matsumoku, fujigen etc.). They seem to be around the same price range than G&L. Now I think that this more modern approach of G&L combined with nice vintage look/feel just got me:) Retail price here in Finland is 529€. I think that is reasonable!
Sorry to ne an ass, but when you pay THAT much ( canadian money) dor an axe, these faults shouldnt be there....... NICE review. One' s in my local ads...
The couple of flaws with the nut and buzz (on only one string?), have never been experienced by me on any of the G&L instruments I have ever purchased. But both are easily remedied, by reshaping the nut with a small file and possibly adjusting the string height on that D string. But the rule of thumb when buying an Asian built guitar is to be ready to make these kinds of small adjustments or take it to a tech who can do a full set up. Shouldn't cost too many Loonies and Twoonies...Lol
I’m in love with this tone! Sounds so close to an American Geddy Fender!!!
It’s a GREAT bass :)

Thanks for the kind words! Glad to hear you are enjoying your two G&L basses! The tributes are great!

Great bass at an affordable price :)
Yessss just got my G & L today love it sweet spot.
Glad to hear that! Congratulations 🎊
It has a nice brighter higher pitch like tone that’s nice. I have one from around 15 years ago. Excellent value for the money. Should cost more IMO.
Congrats on a concise, clear and informative review. I appreciate it!
Thank you! i appreciate it, too!

They sound great, right!?
Sorry to hear that you had some issues with the first one!
Well done. Answered all my questions.
Glad you found it helpful, Terry! Thanks for watching!
played one of these today -- everything Ivan says stands up. I wold put this bass up against American Fenders costing much more
Thanks for watching, Mike! Glad you enjoyed the bass!

Hey John! Awesome! Congratulations on the new instrument :) I’ll reach out to G&L. I’ve been getting a lot of requests for that particular bass
@@IvanBassist Ivan, thanks for the fast response. Will wait in anticipation for that demo ,but GAS may win me over!!:) Cheers again.

Great J-Bass :)!
Great demo and review. Appreciate you providing a complete run through of the sounds of different pickup settings and techniques.
Thank you for watching! Check out the demo of the USA version of the JB: ruclips.net/video/biBj1hCnWV8/видео.html
Good playing and very nice sound examples! What, if anything, would you change about this bass?
jay wells Thanks!! Oh, that’s a tough one. Probably would put ultralight tuners and have it plek’d for even better playing

Awesome! Glad you like the bass!
Hello Ivan, good sound and vibe. What's the box you are plugged before your amp?
That’s my DI Box. It’s a Neve RNDI
Thanks for your video! Very good. One question, I think tha maybe the neck and the fingerboard are two diferents pieces, that's correct?

Hi Ivan and thank you for awesome channel! I’m thinking of buying J-bass in price range of 500€. This G&L tribute J bass sure seems nice..
Hey there! Thanks for watching! It is a great bass! Are you looking for an active or passive bass? :)
Passive one. I was thinking about Squier Classic Vibe 70’s but now I think my plans are different:)

Some of those vintage Japanese basses are KILLER
What kind of strap are you using, It looks Great / very wide!
Thanks for watching, George! That is a GruvGear Solo NeoStrap :)
IvanBassist thank you, I have major problems with my neck, and I was drawn to that strap the second I saw you balancing the Bass in it!
It’s very comfortable! I can also recommend their duo strap, even if you only end up only one part of it
Sorry to ne an ass, but when you pay THAT much ( canadian money)
