My fav fact about the Together Forever ending is that if you go back and check on Garry after he dies, Ib thinks he's just sleeping, because she's too young to understand death. :(
And just to add it here, if I remember it correctly Garry gives Ib a candy at some point in the playthrough which will give an extra piece of dialogue of Mary eating it if not already lost some other way
Fun fact: In certain endings, including Together Forever if I'm not mistaken, the Hanged Man painting changes to a painting of Garry slumped against a wall, labeled "Forgotten Portrait"
The reason Mary starts to act strange after Garry finds the truth about her is because a painting (called Severed Ear if I remember correctly) overhears him, you can see it move up and down during the scene. That connects to a painting of lips upstairs (named Tattletale) which tells Mary that her secret's been found out :) Thank you so much for playing Ib, it's one of my favourite games of all time and I always love seeing people get to experience it
It's 'Strained Ear', I just replayed. There's also a painting of an eye looking to towards the bookshelf with the secret in it before you can get to it called 'Enlightenment'.
yeah! also if u walk down after garry finds out about mary being a painting, there's text outside of the borders of the room indicating more clearly that the strained ear overheard garry ("I HEARD MARY'S SECRET ♪")
If I recall correctly, there's a book somewhere that reads something along the lines of "Through an exchange of existences, the imaginary can become real", in A Painting's End, Mary just kinda assumes that Gary and Ib being stuck counts for the exchange and fades away because she was wrong. This is also why she brings up only 2 of the 3 being able to leave, and why she kills Gary in Together Forever.
I've always head-canoned that the reason why both Ib and Garry can't be exchanged is because Mary still needs someone to teach her how to be human outside the gallery. It'd be either Ib becomes her sister and she has a mother and father, or supposedly she becomes Garry's sister and he teaches her how to behave as her big brother. By herself, she'd never survive because she doesn't know anything.
A nice detail I don't remember you bringing up, although it might just have not been in the original, was the differences in inventory/health between the 3. While Ib and Mary have 5 petals on their rose, Gary actually has 10 petals. Besides that, Mary's inventory is different, being a crayon drawing. A minor detail in the Ib and Mary ending is that after Gary dies you can rummage through his pockets to grab the lighter, but you have to get rid of the candy he gave you to hold it. Mary's dialogue at the end changes a bit depending on which item you have, either eating the candy or disposing of the lighter. There was an ending I remember, that I later learned was a fan made ending, where Ib actually could sacrifice herself to let Gary and Mary escape. In that ending Gary and Mary became siblings, but Mary was able to remember the painted world. They do run into Ib's parents who just never had a child, and it ends with Mary finding the portrait of The Hanged Man being replaced by Ib and breaking down infront of it.
The difference in health is indeed present in the original, as is Mary's unique menu. Ben glossed over a lot of very neat details in this, which is very unfortunate, including the True Gallery. He also... kind of violated the EULA. You're not allowed to use the original version for monetized content, as outlined on the translator's website, but if Ben missed the font detail he definitely missed that. He did show at the start that he owns the remake though so... I guess it's fine?
21:42 “I don’t want to lie to you…but…I don’t want to tell the truth either. If you need help…I’ll come running…” Gary, the true MVP. Sacrificed himself for Ib in an instant and then told her to run because he didn’t want this little girl to watch him die. I’ve never played this game and he’s my favorite character
I would like to note, for posterity, that VGPerson (the translator of the freeware version) does note that the font may not display properly and provides a link to a download page for the font on the page for the game. The font needed no tracking down, it was right there. Glad to see you cover Ib though! There's so many amazing old RPGmaker horror games that don't get as much time in the spotlight as they deserve! I hope to see you cover some others VGPerson translated in the future!
When I first played Ib, I was like everyone else, just fanboying over Garry and thinking Mary is a psycho. But after replaying it way too many times, Mary became my favorite character. For most of the game, she is actually just a scared kid. Technically, nothing was stopping you from just leaving after the toy box, but having Garry forces you to burn her painting. Various routes also show that Mary actually likes Garry, but she is kinda forcing herself to treat him like a villain because she will have to kill him if she wants to escape. The gallery is the true villain of Ib, though even then, it is not an evil entity, but it is a possessive one, to unhealthy levels. The sketchbook area is pretty much Mary's home, she is the one drawing it. Which really shows how innocent she is, and looking at the mural reveals that she really cares.
I don't remember the part where Mary actually likes Gary, apart from her drawings in the Sketchbook World just before opening the Pandora's Box. Could you please elaborate that further?
@@AlzeroyGalcone It is not directly stated, but there's the drawing, there is the fact that she calls him in Portrait's Demise, she asks him to teach her stuff at some points and she comes back for him in Welcome to the World of Guertena. Well, she mostly comes back for Ib, but she doesn't dislike Garry being there too, since when he's not in the way, she doesn't mind him. And if you unlock True Exhibit, she holds no grudges there either. Basically, it's subtle, but she envy him, she needs him dead, but that doesn't mean she hates him.
@@akumuryuu Ah yes, one of the more interesting details that players can missed with their first playthrough. Come to think of it, there are many interesting details where players are going to miss the first time they play this game.
Also, I think a lesser game would've had Mary be sinister or have some evil plan upon escaping the gallery, but nope Mary's just happy to be in the real world living with her sister Ib. What she did was pretty terrible, but it's hard to truly hate her
*YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO--* ...ahem. Looks like it's finally time for the final member of the Big Three. To clarify some misconceptions: The version of Ib's mom that tries to stop her *does not actually exist.* As shown with the bunnies and implied by Ruin of the Heart, Ib has started to hallucinate. If both Garry and Mary are dead, Ib will hallucinate Garry instead. Yes, this means that the dolls are the true form of Red Eyes. Ib is later able to see this through the Sketchbook gallery and the Toybox. Mary's change in demeanor is because she _knows_ Garry knows. The painting "Strained Ear" heard him say what he learned out loud and "Tattletale" relayed the information in a very sing-songy manner. This is bad because of the following lore point: In the Purple Zone library, a book says that "via a trading of existences", the fabricated becomes real. It's later spelled out in Mary's diary that for a painting to leave the Fabricated World, it has to take the place of a real person. Mary dies in A Painting's Demise because, well, 1 painting doesn't equal 2 people. In the Blue Zone, Ib is being called a thief specifically for taking the key. It is _so_ very worth getting every ending of this game, with my personal favorite being the one where Garry dies but you kill Mary anyway. Additionally, starting a New Game+ allows you to access an extra section of the Fabricated World that unlocks the True Exhibit, which tracks every artwork you know the full name of. In the remake, you can even see the complete version of Mary's painting! Each of the 4 good endings will add an NPC to this exhibit, and in the remake, 100% completion is rewarded, too. Thank you for covering Ib, every time someone talks about it in a video life flows through my veins. I bought the remake before it was even friggin' _translated._ Oh yeah, speaking of, the remake offers a lot of marked improvements over the original! They are as follows, so if you don't wanna read 'em back out now: -Controller support -Higher-res textures -Several puzzles have been replaced with new ones -The labyrinth in the grey area is gone. Worst puzzle, good riddance -The final section of the grey area is overhauled -Several new pieces across the game -You just have to beat the game to unlock the true exhibit and it's its own separate thing on the menu -Fabricated World and the complete Mary painting added to the True Exhibit And of course, most importantly, the feature that justifies the price tag by itself: *-A dedicated talk-to-your-party button with dialogue for pretty much every room* They really did take perfection and improved upon it by adding twice the Garry dialogue. Fun Facts! Carrie Careless has a listed author, though the 4 letter name is X'd out. It's also drawn in crayon, too, as noted... In the rope maze in the purple zone, there's a book that doesn't exist in the remake that says a _very_ interesting excerpt from Guertena's personal journal/diary/something. Check it out if you haven't, it along with the hidden section recontextualize a lot of the worldbuilding. Mary's theme in the original game was the only track that was a MIDI. Awfully fitting, since MIDIs aren't real recordings. The following tracks were changed in the remake: -Mary's theme -Uneasy Air (the music that plays in the room with the toybox) This is because they, like much of the soundtrack, were royalty free and something something paid product licensing. The main theme and I _believe_ Garry's themes and the credits music are all made specifically for this game, though. Garry is the best character in all of fiction. Anyway that's enough rambling from me, love being able to inject more Ib directly into my eyeballs
@@rorygal2991 It's my personal little conspiracy theory that Guertena intentionally created and then later died (probably unintentionally) in the Fabricated World. We do know for a fact he _is_ dead thanks to some gallery patrons, and the whole Cyan Zone/Abyssal Space is utterly rife with implications toward it. He was pretty old though, if my attempt to chronologize his career had any grounding, so who knows?
15:24 You need to remember the paintings that are around during the reveal. Garry reads out-loud which leads to Marry learning something she didn't know before.
Fun fact about this game: There's a modified version out there which probably isn't available anymore called "Ib: Green Edition". the romhack contains a alternative fanmade ending named "Sacrifice", in which Ib stays on the Fabricated World to make Garry and Mary take her place in the real world, and she turns into a painting. It was pretty popular among the fandom.
Oh no, don't you worry, for so long as something is on the Internet, it's available. I used to happen to find a link, which I made sure to save just in case and download it. If need be I can try to sharing the rar with you! It's good to try and make sure things don't be forgotten!

Man I love Gary. He comes off as a complete wimp when you first come across him, but despite being easily frightened and clearly in over his head, he does absolutely everything in his power to keep Ib safe. He’s a brave man, in spite of first impressions.
I will mention of the one with variations, there is one version of the ending that unveils a little more about Ib's past, and one you can get a glimpse of in NG+ *If Garry isn't with you*. The thing is accessible with Garry, but he pulls you out before triggering the ending proper. It's a variation of "Ib all alone", and it's one you get if for any reason: Ib doesn't end up escaping in general, especially without either Garry or Mary. Most variations are easy since all you have to do is to make one dumb move when you reach the portrait to home [either hesitating to jump through after both Mary and Garry are Dead, trusting the fake Mom after Mary dies, or (should Garry be dead) trusting the fake Garry (yes, there's a fake Garry)]. The NG+ version is tied to a Bed in the section of the black area that leads to a bonus room (for more puzzles to drag out the game). If Ib lays on the bed, she will dream about that morning's events on her birthday, when her parents gifted her the hankerchief. It gives you a picture of the life Ib is losing out on if she perishes here, and if Garry isn't there to wake IB up: choosing to stay asleep grants the ending
13:41 im SO glad that this is one of your favorite moments too. I wanted you to play this *specifically* for this room because I knew you’d love it too.
Spoilers 15:22 There's an extremely cool little detail explaining this. As Mary and Ib, you pass by a painting of a mouth named "Tattletale". As you can see in the room where Garry discovers Mary's secret, there's a painting called "Strained Ear" that visibly wiggles as he reads the book. When you return to Ib's perspective, Mary is looking at "Tattletale", and the painting is now whispering something...
I have no idea why the audio didn't record as someone whom plays the game every birthday and has streamed it for at least 2 years now every bday. There are differences between the og and the remake like the labyrinth
I'm so glad you played my favorite RPG Maker horror game. There's *something* about it that just captivates me in a way that the other big ones didn't really do... Garry. It's Garry.
The Garry appreciation in this video made me very happy. I adore Ib and he's also my favourite character, so yeah. I actually made Mii versions of the gallery trio on my Switch a while ago. Anyway, very cool game for sure! I love all the abstract art touches. Totally unique setting.
there's also translator notes by vgperson if u guys r more intrested in knowing about the characters!! one of my fave details is that in japanese, garry's speech patterns are very feminine and ladylike xD e.g. using 'atashi' (feminine) as a first person pronoun instead of maybe 'boku' or 'ore' which is more masculine :3 i really do recommend reading vgpersons translation notes ^^
One little detail I like of this game is that the art is more than just for show, you can actually try to get meaning out of it, not every single one of them, but enough of them.
Eeb - The pronunciation advocated for by the dev Ihb - A reasonable mistake made by english speakers Aib - Very specifically wrong, you may be confusing Ib with another game Pound - You've never seen a sans-serif font before.
I love revisiting these old RPG Maker games, and I'm glad they're starting to get more attention as of late. There's one I think you would love called "Pocket Mirror". It's a pretty but horrifying game where you play as a girl with amnesia (shocker) with multiple endings and a convoluted story.
God, Ib... Of all the rpgmaker greats no game has affected me as much as Ib has. I watched all the ones shown in the video on youtube ages ago. Of Mad Father I remember one of the endings, of Witch's House I remember the tragedy of the ending as well as a couple setpieces and of Crooked Man I remember how much the first encounter with the eponymous creature had scared me. But with Ib, almost all the setpieces had imprinted on me. The game has such a unique mood that it's never left my psyche. Out of everything though what stuck with me the most throughout the years have been two things: the title theme mixed with the main menu art. The main menu art shows Ib, in a dark void, small and vulnerable, her design cute and almost unrealistically classy, the red of her eyes and ribbon striking and her expression oddly serene for the horror of the game. The music box theme added to that gives me so many strong feelings that I can't even name. It's so serene yet sad... I don't even know what aspects of the game make it such a masterpiece. Sure; the setting is clever, the characters fun, the designs memorable etc but there is so much more to Ib. Half coherent block of text aside, I don't think I'll ever forget this game.
Together forever ending is so sad. Especially, if you play Promise of Reunion first. In that ending you find out that handkerchief can help you remember what happened in painting's world. Also, if I remember correctly if you choose that Ib doesn't remember candy will help her with this. So, in Together forever ending Mary is erasing proof of Garry's existence :(
Ib is my absolute favorite of the RPGMaker classics. It just has such a unique and consistent aesthetic, and amazing characters. The gallery setting allows for such a great variety of puzzles and setpieces.
There is another Ib... well, a game like Ib, including the "Garry closed the book" moment. Forest of Drizzling Rain. Definitely recommend checking it out.
I love Ib. I adored it when it came out, and i adore it as a fully grown adult. Hell, i adore it even more now that i am older. It is an absolutely fantastic story with interesting characters and just, so many cool things and ideas in it that i cannot help but smile every time i see people talk about it. Hell, it was inspiring enough for me to start writing short stories of my own.
Omg!!!! I’m so excited for this video! Ib is one of my favorite games! I’m doing an Ib cosplay for a Halloween RPG maker horror group & just finished making one of the dolls last night! ❤️
Ib was that one game I found out as a middle schooler that stayed with me forever and influenced bits of my creativity growing up. It's one of my fave games and I'm excited to see you play it! I will say, I actually prefer the original because it felt more spooky compared to the remake, but I have bought the remake on both Steam and Switch because I love Ib so much (and 100% everything multiple times, the game is so special to me).
I'd like to suggest trying out Aria's Story (An Ib-like that's more spooky-cutesy and set in a library), Grimm's Hollow (RPG about navigating the underworld as a newly minted grim reaper to find a sibling) and Yuppie Psycho (First day on the job in a cursed office building hunting for a witch and befriending your oddball c0-workers along the way).
Ib is one of my all-time favourites. I love the characters, the atmosphere, the artstyle and the creative puzzles. It's one of those horror games that are more about dread than just shocking you with imagery and sounds. Thank you for covering it! I'm definitely listening to Gary's theme now. Gosh, the music in this game is good.
Ib!!! This was my first RPG Maker Horror Game experience back in middle school and is still probably my favorite. I was so stoked when I saw that you were covering it! So many fun little tidbits I could bring up, but since you covered A Painting's Demise, I'll go with this one, especially since it's one of my favorites: So each of the characters have inventories you can check when playing as them. Ib and Garry's have a pretty standard interface, but Mary's is in the scribbly crayon style of the sketchbook. If you check Mary's inventory while the gallery is dimming during A Painting's Demise, it will be distorted, either covered in dark blue scribbles, or replacing Mary's character portrait with a crudely drawn figure. Super creepy detail
The remaster adds an additional part of the gallery you can unlock on subsequent playthroughs with extra puzzles! It's in the mirror gallery though, just before the final Fabricated World scene, and you need Garry to clear all the puzzles. My second playthrough was me showing my friends the Forgotten Portrait ending, so I ended up having to run the game a third time, but I've played Ib over so many times that I knew what to do, so it doesn't take that long if you're speed running, haha. I love this game, and I love the little things the remaster adds to it, so I do hope you take the time to play it, even if not for the video. I especially liked being able to talk to Garry in every room with a designated button, because he has a lot more to say and I love him a lot, lol.
I'm making a horror game that follows the spirit of the old rpgmaker horror games, so watching these videos are immensely helpful. thanks for making these videos.
God I love this game. Misao is my favorite RPG maker horror game purely for nostalgic reasons and the fact that it was the first one I ever experienced, but Ib has such a special place in my heart. The story, the characters, the atmosphere, everything is peak. So glad you enjoyed this wonderful game.
Amazing video i love watching them! I find the ost of ib to be so hauntingly beautiful. The designs of every is beautiful.. I loved interacting with everything!! btw my favourite character is Mary. I love thinking about the lore and even though the questions answered i wonder things like how did this gallery even become living. BTW marys theme is also my favourite!! Though can i recommend some other RPG maker games ? They are pocket mirror and Little goody two shoes , both by the same developer, they are both as great as Ib and i would love to see you play them!!!
I was waiting for the video after I saw the post yesterday! I lo ve this game and it got me addicted to playing rpg maker horror games back in the day. I remember getting to finish the game in the middle of a stormy day while the internet was down haha. I replayed the game a couple of years later when an update happened and they added a bonus room (more like a museum though). I'm surprised this video didn't mention the bonus room where you could see all of the paintings Ib saw throught the game plus some extras depending on the endings you've gotten (and you could talk to the other characters there, too!). When our computer broke I lost my save files for both of the free versions though. If I remember correctly, the 1st and 3rd endings you got are one of the original endings available when the game first came out. The third of the original ending has Ib leave on her own and find Garry's painting in the real world showing his corpse is now trapped in the other world. I was wondering what your reaction would've been to that ending when you mentioned you liked the character (it definitely devastated me when I got the ending back then since I like Garry, too). Hehe too bad you didn't get it. It was so much fun watching this video! Ib is one of my favorite rpg maker horror games so I enjoyed watching someone play the game after all this years and love it, too.
This is probably my favorite RPG Maker horror game of all time, I was obsessed with it back in the day. I love Garry so much. Glad to see you got a chance to check it out!
I don't know if you take suggestions, but when I think of old, free, creepy, puzzly, indie games with multiple endings that i have nostalgic feelings for, like Ib, I remember The White Chamber. It's a point and click from 2005, set in a space station, and I won't elaborate further, so as to avoid spoilers. It's been a long time since I played it, so I'm not even sure if it was really any good. I know I Used to like it.
Always glad to see indie passion projects getting an appreciative limelight, moreso when they don't hold back on the fridge horror & delayed logic while being able to balance some wholesome storytelling.
Is there a war of "Ib" vs "Eeb"? lmao The letter 'I' in Japanese is strictly pronounced as "Ee". So it is, in fact, "Eeb". If you wanted to say it in English, "Eve" would be the closest since V's in Japanese are usually pronounced with a B since they don't really have V's in the language. Ib is my fave of the RPG maker games! I'm glad you got to play it!! The freeware version is just as good as the remastered version imo. Both are worth playing. And yeah, the font issue...I remember when I got that too back in the day. Also Garry is the best. Also Also someone already explained why Mary changes so drastically after Garry learns the truth. I'm not done with the video yet but I hope you didn't miss out on some of the more secretive and cool world/lore building the paintings have to offer. Edit: Aaa you did miss some. Like the fact...I'm going to go into spoilers: In the Together forever ending, when Mary switches places with Garry, you can find a painting of Garry called "The Hanged Man", something the game hints earlier in one of the art books. ALSO you didn't cover the extra dungeon at the end! That's okay, it's just a little more fun with Ib and Garry tbh. I hope you get to enjoy it yourself sometime.
Ib is one of my favorite games every, and I absolutely adore it. I'm so glad to see someone making a video on this absolute gem. I feel like a lot of people gravitate towards Ib/Gary endings (for fairly clear reasons), but I've always adored Mary's story and I want her to have a happy ending. Because at the end of it all, she's still a little girl despite everything else that has gone on in the gallery and her twisted sense of morals. She was never really given a chance as a painting, and she's been dealing with that neglect and loneliness with only other strange paintings as companions. As someone who works with children like her I just want her to escape, even if it means leaving Gary behind. I think she deserves to try and live a normal life.
I can't express how much I love this game, it wasn't even my first introduction into similar games like The Witches house, or Yume Nikki(which Ben should totally play) and yet Ib has stuck with me for so long. The story is amazing, and never ceases to amaze me with the theories, fanart, collabs etc 96Neko's song for Ib always makes me cry 😭
Ib is one of my childhood games (along with many other RPG horror games), me and my friends loved it very much. I still adore this game, it’s insanely good and the music and designs have stuck with me to this day. Garry’s theme has been my comfort song since I was a kid too, it’s such a lonely sounding song, and yet makes me feel like someone is there to protect me, which is just perfect for a character like Garry. Mary’s theme is perfect too, innocent yet tragic just like her. I especially love the lyrics people had made for her. Old Puppet is iconic to me, helps that other games use the song as well lmao. The perfect horror song for RPG maker games.
Thank you for covering Ib. I have old memories of playing it when I was a lot younger. It was so nostalgic watching this so thank you for the reminder of those good memories. Have a great day :D
I remember being so obsessed with Ib years ago when I was younger I consumed a lot of the fandom's content of it, animations, comics (fuck some of the comics are so sad, one of my favourites iirc was based after the Forgotten Portrait ending where Mary doesn't get out because Ib burns her painting after Garry dies. And I believe the concept of the comic was that Garry was now a painting and Ib got stuck in the world again [not sure if she has her memories] but Garry doesn't remember anything. It was sad as hell and I don't think either I finished it or the author ever finished, it was genuinely so long ago the details are fuzzy.), and side tangents aside I saw as much as I could. What a great game.
I really enjoy watching these obscure RPG maker horror games with tight engaging stories. Thanks Ben!! (Also have been loving your narration and video production, keep up the great work - the snippets with friends on the call are very fun)
I can’t believe Ben would pronounce Ib as Ib instead of Ib. It ruined my entire experience of the entire video and made me unbelievably upset that anyone would even considered pronouncing it Ib. The pronunciation of Ib as Ib is important to the meaning of this game and mispronouncing it as Ib could make the entire analysis wrong. (/s if not obvious)
I was so happy when Ib got released for consoles a few months ago, i thought this game was forgotten by the creator and its one of my favorite games ever made
Adding this in the replies cause I do not want to ruin the heart, I thought my comment was so rude on the mad father vid before and I feel so happy that you still played the original :”) thank you so much!! Im gonna show this video to everyone I know I’m so happy you did a ib video in general!! >:D I hope you had fun playing one of my childhood games!
There's a series of games that while they're not RPG makes they're very interesting narrative pieces. It's called menagerie. And it begins in the game exoptable money, after this comes the sequel presentable liberty and after this comes "the archive". I believe you would like this serie's way of story telling.
I’m so happy you got around to IB! It was my first rpg maker horror game and it really holds up even after all this time. I went so far to buy the Nintendo Switch Physical Special Edition because I loved the game so much. IB is the perfect gateway game to rpgmaker horrors because it’s simple. As a young teen who was new to pc gaming back when the game came out, it was nice just breezing through to get multiple endings.
I'm surprised that Gary is such a fan favourite. When I first played this game (when I was 14 or so?) he gave me major predator vibes and I also thought the game was Ib's story of coming to terms with something horrible having happened at the gallery. I should definitely go back and replay this as an adult now
i’m so glad you’re covering these rpgmaker games, even if they’re not let’s plays. my first exposure to them was through cryaotic and i think we all understand why i want that to not be my only experience of these rpgmaker classics
love growing up. used to have a crush on gary, now i related to him so much, especially around my little sisters. and like- where he see's terrible things and Ib see's sweet stuff? its so!! i love getting to see you go through this game, its so!!
I first got into horror video games through Ib and I adore it deeply for its' characters and distinct setting for horror. There's genuine charm and humor packed in this game, horrors aside.
One of the best RPG Maker games out there. I spent so much time unlocking every piece of art in the post-game gallery, including the new game+ area you may not have played? But it was such an enjoyable experience!
I've always enjoyed puzzles, horror, and story heavy games so RPG maker games really scratch that itch for me. I only recently got into the genre so I've really enjoyed your coverage on games like this. Thanks for showing off games like this in a way that's fun for those familiar and new the title, and being really entertaining while doing so. Great job
I'm so glad you finally played Ib! This game holds a spot in my heart as the first horror rpg maker game I played and convinced me to other gems out there. But no matter how more games I play out there, this game will always be one of my favs! I hope you have fun playing the other endings, and do pay attention to small details! One interesting detail is the theory that Garry might have been a smoker before and is probably trying to get over it. The details that made some theorize that is why he had a lighter and a lemon candy with him :)
This game is an all time great, the concept is excellent, the set pieces are great, its short, its scrappy but for such a self contained experience I recommend everyone give it a playthrough, it really won't take you long.
Still one of my favorite Horror games to date, I got hooked after SomeOrdinaryGamers first played it and started a full blown love for RPG Maker games and horror in general, from the sad To The Moon to Alice Mare, which was my first exposure to ManlyBadassHero, and ofc Mad Father and the Crooked Man. I remember heavily relating to Ib on her journey and it still makes me jump after years of watching many people play it or going back to listen to the OST, especially Mary's Theme.
My fav fact about the Together Forever ending is that if you go back and check on Garry after he dies, Ib thinks he's just sleeping, because she's too young to understand death.
:(
And just to add it here, if I remember it correctly Garry gives Ib a candy at some point in the playthrough which will give an extra piece of dialogue of Mary eating it if not already lost some other way
@@imlivinginyourwalls9413God I remember seeing that dialogue way back when and just angrily thinking "THAT WASNT FOR YOU, YOU RUDE LITTLE...."
Also seeing Gary in one of the paintings in the Gallery hit different.
That connects to a painting of lips upstairs (named Tattletale) which tells Mary that her secret's been found out :)
Thank you so much for playing Ib, it's one of my favourite games of all time and I always love seeing people get to experience it
Dirty snitch painting. lmao
That's some great lore building and attention to detail
It's 'Strained Ear', I just replayed. There's also a painting of an eye looking to towards the bookshelf with the secret in it before you can get to it called 'Enlightenment'.
yeah! also if u walk down after garry finds out about mary being a painting, there's text outside of the borders of the room indicating more clearly that the strained ear overheard garry ("I HEARD MARY'S SECRET ♪")
In Mary and Ib's side, I believe there is a painting of lips called 'Tattletale' as well
IB. WE ARE SO BACK . WE'RE SO BACK.
vash pfp spotted
Vassshhhh aaaa, trigun is amazing
HECK YEAH WE ARE SO BACK
WE ARE SO BACK🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
If I recall correctly, there's a book somewhere that reads something along the lines of "Through an exchange of existences, the imaginary can become real", in A Painting's End, Mary just kinda assumes that Gary and Ib being stuck counts for the exchange and fades away because she was wrong.
@@Gkvfflowergirl I really like that head-canon, adopting it now :D
Thats so sad.
The sacrifice ending is just beautiful. Sadly it never made it into the official remastered game 😭
21:42
“I don’t want to lie to you…but…I don’t want to tell the truth either. If you need help…I’ll come running…”
Gary, the true MVP.
Mary was always my favorite and broke my heart. While I'm definitely a sucker for a tragic villain, I love her characterization
What she did was pretty terrible, but it's hard to truly hate her
*YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO--*
...ahem.
Looks like it's finally time for the final member of the Big Three.
To clarify some misconceptions:
The version of Ib's mom that tries to stop her *does not actually exist.* As shown with the bunnies and implied by Ruin of the Heart, Ib has started to hallucinate.
This is bad because of the following lore point:
In the Purple Zone library, a book says that "via a trading of existences", the fabricated becomes real.
I bought the remake before it was even friggin' _translated._
Oh yeah, speaking of, the remake offers a lot of marked improvements over the original! They are as follows, so if you don't wanna read 'em back out now:
-Controller support
-Higher-res textures
-Several puzzles have been replaced with new ones
-The labyrinth in the grey area is gone. Worst puzzle, good riddance
-The final section of the grey area is overhauled
-Several new pieces across the game
-You just have to beat the game to unlock the true exhibit and it's its own separate thing on the menu
-Fabricated World and the complete Mary painting added to the True Exhibit
And of course, most importantly, the feature that justifies the price tag by itself:
*-A dedicated talk-to-your-party button with dialogue for pretty much every room*
They really did take perfection and improved upon it by adding twice the Garry dialogue.
The following tracks were changed in the remake:
-Mary's theme
-Uneasy Air (the music that plays in the room with the toybox)
This is because they, like much of the soundtrack, were royalty free and something something paid product licensing. The main theme and I _believe_ Garry's themes and the credits music are all made specifically for this game, though.
Garry is the best character in all of fiction.
Anyway that's enough rambling from me, love being able to inject more Ib directly into my eyeballs
Garry being the best character in fiction ia based asf 😂😂🥴
I read your whole comment; this is the lore I live for 🤙🏻 Thank you for you service
I think Mary always knew she was fake, she just realised the ruse was up
Fun fact about this game: There's a modified version out there which probably isn't available anymore called "Ib: Green Edition". the romhack contains a alternative fanmade ending named "Sacrifice", in which Ib stays on the Fabricated World to make Garry and Mary take her place in the real world, and she turns into a painting.

Garebear, my beloved.
Spoilers
15:22 There's an extremely cool little detail explaining this.
IT'S TIME FOR MY SPECIAL INTEREST OH MY GOD
I have no idea why the audio didn't record as someone whom plays the game every birthday and has streamed it for at least 2 years now every bday. There are differences between the og and the remake like the labyrinth
Nice to see another person with autism being so passionate about horror
so real Ib is such ana amazing game
Is that where the rumors about him being gay came from?
One little detail I like of this game is that the art is more than just for show, you can actually try to get meaning out of it, not every single one of them, but enough of them.
Eeb - The pronunciation advocated for by the dev
Ihb - A reasonable mistake made by english speakers
Aib - Very specifically wrong, you may be confusing Ib with another game
Pound - You've never seen a sans-serif font before.
I read it as I-B, as in two separate letters (justification : Non native speaker of both ENG and JP, plus I was very young when the game was out🤣
To be fair, I don't know if I say it right or not, I say it as if it was said in spanish.
animated inanimate battle...
I SAW THE TITLE AND CLICKED SO FAST BECAUSE I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH
W pfp
Gotta love being there for a Ben upload before it's even a minute old.
Bro I have been WAITING to see you cover Ib since I found your channel!!
God I love Ib. That one sequence with the finding the key inside the dolls while the monster slowly comes out of the painting? Chef's kiss.
2012 was a great year for horror in general, IMSCARED first released that year
You should play that btw
So happy you talked about Ib, honestly one of my favorites in this niche, you should also look into Dreaming Mary it's one of my other favorites too
This is probably my favorite RPG Maker horror game of all time, I was obsessed with it back in the day.
God IB is my favorite Rpg horror game and Garry is my favorite. Im so glad you covered it along with enjoying the game
11:36 Thank you for sharing
I’d just like to say that I love Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright music and love how it’s used in this video ❤️
ooh, Ib. one of the old RPG maker games i remember the most fondly, and that says something. I still like Garry a lot.
Always glad to see indie passion projects getting an appreciative limelight, moreso when they don't hold back on the fridge horror & delayed logic while being able to balance some wholesome storytelling.
Is there a war of "Ib" vs "Eeb"? lmao
The letter 'I' in Japanese is strictly pronounced as "Ee".
Like the fact...I'm going to go into spoilers:
In the Together forever ending, when Mary switches places with Garry, you can find a painting of Garry called "The Hanged Man", something the game hints earlier in one of the art books.
I love Ib, happy to see you break down and play it! Also the game pronunciation I feel confused many original 😂❤
IB is a horror rpg that I remember THAFNINE playing!
For me it was Manlybadasshero.
One of my favorite games played it so many times i can speedrun it im so glad you covered it 🙏🏾😌
Angel of death would be a good game to cover
I can't express how much I love this game, it wasn't even my first introduction into similar games like The Witches house, or Yume Nikki(which Ben should totally play) and yet Ib has stuck with me for so long. The story is amazing, and never ceases to amaze me with the theories, fanart, collabs etc 96Neko's song for Ib always makes me cry 😭
I love the games of this era, they are an integral part of my childhood. Thanks for covering them! It warms my nostalgic heart.
OMG YES YES YES I SAW THE TITLE AND I FELT MY HEART JUMP Ib is one of my all time favorite games i am so happy you decided to cover it LET'S GOOOOOO
I can always count on ben again to make a detailed video about a game i vaguely remember but love so the video is always a treat
It’s Ben again! And this time it’s Ib 🥀
God Ib is such a banger game
And the game over music will live in my brain rent free
So glad to see you play Ib.
This game is a classic.
ib was one of those games i replayed religiously, to the point that i could pretty much solve every puzzle without any help.
15:25 The reason she starts acting like that is because the Tattletale painting told her Garry found out
Thank you for covering Ib.
I wish people pronounced Ib as Ib instead of Ib
ohhhh I've been WAITING for this... the final piece of so many medias that shaped my young life.
I was so happy when Ib got released for consoles a few months ago, i thought this game was forgotten by the creator and its one of my favorite games ever made
LETSGOO BEN BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH A NEW VIDEO!
AND ON IB NO LESS WOOOOOOOO!
THANK YOU IM SUPER HAPPY THAT YOU DID THIS VIDEO AAA!!
Garry is a KING and I'm glad you were about his vibe
It has been YEARS since I last consumed IB content and I still get emotional at the together forever ending because of Garry’s sacrifice.
FINALLY, I NEEDED YOU DEDICATING A VIDEO FOR THIS GAME EVER SINCE YOU SPOKE ABOUT INDIE GAMES, WE ARE SO BAACK
Finally ben posted again, love your vids man it gets me through work
This is my favorite game of all time, thank you so much!
3:15 that "ocean monster" is actually a frilled shark!
There's genuine charm and humor packed in this game, horrors aside.
my computer froze and did the ol' sound loop thing at 6:36 and i thought it was part of the video lmao
One of the best RPG Maker games out there. I spent so much time unlocking every piece of art in the post-game gallery, including the new game+ area you may not have played? But it was such an enjoyable experience!
My favorite RPG maker game!! I’m glad you played it and liked it!
LETS GOOOO A VIDEO ON IB I LOVE THIS GAME
I've always enjoyed puzzles, horror, and story heavy games so RPG maker games really scratch that itch for me. I only recently got into the genre so I've really enjoyed your coverage on games like this. Thanks for showing off games like this in a way that's fun for those familiar and new the title, and being really entertaining while doing so. Great job
I FINALLY HAVE THE TIME TO WATCH LETS GO
omfg the music from hotel dusk????? you have S tier taste
This game is an all time great, the concept is excellent, the set pieces are great, its short, its scrappy but for such a self contained experience I recommend everyone give it a playthrough, it really won't take you long.
a fun detail in the remake version there is a full art picture for together forever and you look at the shadows Mary's looks like it's drawn
It threw me how tiny Ib was compared to Gary the first time I saw them in the good ending
