Thank you for this update on catasetums. I immediately rushed to check my few catasetums. They have white lines and second growth of roots, but no flower spikes. Hope to see them soon. 0:01 Please continue giving us these updates!
Everything looking good! Except for the slackers! I have some too! 😂 the weather has been weird! Im so stoked that Catasandra is gonna bloom! Im holding my breath! I cant wait! 😂😊
Hi Stephen. Your new grow space looks really nice. We could use some of that rain here in SW Ohio. Seems like it’s always south of us or north of us. It’s warm though. Have a nice weekend. 🤗🥰
Hi Stephen, I have Cycnoches "Golden Showers" that I grow indoors in regular vented orchid pot. I bought it last in flower at my local nursery. I didn't repot it this Spring, but definitely will next Spring. I'm so excited that not only did not kill it yet (LOL), but it actually has a flower spike! It had three bloom spikes last year. I'm following your videos for guidance and your guidance is very helpful for me. Have a great weekend and thanks, James
Hi Stephen, thanks for updating us. Do you keep on adding fertilizer in those little baskets or one filling is enough? I am never sure on how much I should feed my catasetums 🙏
Hey Stephen, thanks for the update! Was going to ask a question on all the algae - seems they don't care...at the moment! Can I ask you a question as a more experienced grower: I grow in sphagnum and I'm approaching my third season in a similar setup (drainage pot in solid pot with a microfiber wick system) - reckon cycnodes and catasetum would fair alright with 3rd season sphagnum or best to repot? (Australia for context so I'm coming up to repot time next couple months)
@@zacrobertson7257 Sphagnum rots and collapses on itself, which might be too little airflow even for Catasetum. Also, the pH stops quickly, which happens when you see the slime algae form on top. I’d recommend changing the old spag!
wasps are all fine and dandy until you don't notice them and then they get mad and sting you and you have to rush to grab an epi pen or else things turn out poorly.
Hi Stephen, did I make a mistake putting holes all over the pots, not just at the bottom PET. Am I losing to much water. Secondly, whats in your little net pots?
Nah, I see the Brazilians punching tons of holes in their pots too! I have Jim's Purely Organic fertilizer in the little net pots. Gives an extra boost of food to the plants.
I have a problem I have one catasetum and a clo. That I believe is skipping an any type of new growth.i not water I just give enough water to keep the bulbs from shriveling. My question is can they skip a growing season
@@alexandragorchakova439 They seem to have their own rhythm a bit different than most other Catasetums. You can let it dry and treat it as though it were spring. Or you can water it normally and withhold water in late December to keep it on track with the seasons, though you get stunted growths. Either methods will work. And it could still bloom even though it’s pushing out new growth.

Oh, that's a cool hybrid! Not a great name, but definitely a cool hybrid! lol
@@SVKLOrchids LOL, if anyone asks me, I'll say it's called Golden Rain. The blooms smell just like bananas.

About half of mine are spiking. Most have more roots growing.
They sure are getting big..
Looks great.

I have a nice growth on mine but haven’t seen signs of a spike yet. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Hopefully soon!

@@francescamatrunola388 Yes, I’ll add more to the baskets soon! I usually fill them once in the spring and once mid season, around now.

My catasetum has white lines on the bulb with leaves and a couple new bulbs shooting out .. should I stop watering them now?

How about growing them bare root?
