Joanna Leggett is going to take you a short "Tour de France" to give you an idea of average house prices, and what the different areas have to offer. Enjoy! ;)

I knew a few Irish farmers who sold up small farms in the Irish boom, early 2000’s and bought huge farms in the middle of France for a fraction of the price. They are still cattle farming as far as I know.

You can find a very decent house in many places in Burgundy for less than 100K€, except if you want a house around Dijon or Mâcon.
Bordeaux isn't an hour drive away from Spain, Bordeaux to San Sebastian (Donostia) journey takes at least 3 hours by the A63/AP-8 highways.

I am French from Paris and I think there is no rules on where to live (even at a big city level) as it depends of your lifestyle.
In Paris price are now at 10000€/sq meter . For that price you can find something in an average district like the 11th , a kind of gentrified district .
You will need a budget of 15000€ / sq meter to moreorless live where you want , so expensive but at the end of the day cheaper than London .

From what I gather the best place to live in France should be near a valley with gentle slopes, with some forestry nearby which does not block the view but which provides some privacy and shelter from any strong winds. With a good view of a variety of fields such as pasture, fruit, vines and crops and which is also near a village which has character. Personally I suggest the Gascony/Pericord in the Southwest of France along Vesere, Dordogne and other rivers.

Living somewhere where the language and culture is not your own is quite a challenge no matter how beautiful it is. I say live there for six month to a year - experiencing seasons, doctors, home repair, shopping, social life and of course the legal system when you need your papers to be in order or money issues- the list goes on. As you get older I’d say hospitals and doctors need to be a main concern.

That's a good one. You may need to be young, highly educated with specialized set of skills or possibly bring in investments (money or business) or independently wealthy. The French, just like most governments, rightfully do not want unskilled, uneducated, unhealthy people who will be a drain on the economy.

@@MTMF.london A country can’t survive on lazy people who live from hand to mouth. There are many who do just that depending on hardworking people to fund their existence. So it is right that France expects people who have skills, or funds to finance their own lifestyle when they move there. Nothing wrong with that.

Nice country to visit - but live there, I'm not so sure - carte de sejour, French language and bureaucracy, etc. plus how the French Government will pick on the British once we're properly out of the EU.

    • @MultiElodiee
      @MultiElodiee 3 года назад +10

Nothing personal but France did not vote for Brexit. UK citizens becoming non EU citizens is their own doing. There were perks associated with the membership and it's only fair they are removed once the member leaves the club.

    • @MTMF.london

They didn't kick you out - you lot did it by your own volition. And bureaucracy was invented by the Brits.

      Or... Stand in UK darling.
      Brits are really incredible.
Same as my bros : fuckin US southerns always complaining about France... BUT (!) they came back and settled again. Why ?!
There are rules in life everywhere and yu have to "compose" with them. That s life.
Same as for CEE : yu would like to be in order to take all advantages and avoid inconvenients. then yu chose brexit and yu would like to keep advantages of it but no inconvenients. Try to be fair and have some "constance" in yur behaviors. Just try it.

If you want to live in France, learn the language first, you need a good level to be able to communicate. Also learn the main basics of culture.
Don't buy a house that's too far from a big city, especially if you have health care needs or have kids who need to go to school or college.
Remember to be very polite but don't be especially nice if you don't know the people you are talking to, being nice can make you sound like a jerk.
Remember that in France you can contest anything, including the police, as long as you express yourself politely.
You do not have to taste all the dishes, I am French and I will never eat snails, or frog legs, or tripe, or heavy dishes like cassoulet (we call them Christian stews) ), beware, the cold cuts are wonderful but not very good for your health.
Finally, wine, do not buy too low end, we are starting to find good wines from € 10 per liter.

Don't live in the North or Central F amce, the climate is either meh like in England or downright cold like in Central Europe. The South is better although in no way as nice as most of Spain and Italy

Belgian here, your "in no way as nice a smost Spain and italy" makes me laugh... The environnement of the south of France is trully one of the most enchanting place in the world, like most of the regions of France, the infrastructures and buildings are in more better shape than Italy and urban developpment less chaotic than in Spain.

      Arrogant ?...
      Compared to who ?
      Funny...
But yur advice is right : in every country yu as a settler... Aforeigner have to become fluent in their language. Very sample polite manner.
I lived in several countries and always prepared me before moving during at least a year or 2.. Learning their culture history laws and... Language.
I never had any trouble. Then the natives were surprised to see my true interest to them and they accepted me very simply. I could melt easely in the "landscape"...
My 4 gd parents were foreigners and settled in France they told me how was their own experience...
They were perfectly integrated people and never came in their country (switz and Tirol / and Usa) died here and were buried there. Proud of living here.
