    That is awesome that you found that many that far from the mountain. I will have to walk more of the flats next time I am out there. It makes sense that they would erode out that far but I am still amazed. Thanks for sharing your trip. And awesome job turning lemons into lemonade when your plans did not work out.

      Hey thanks for watching! They are much easier to find out away from the mountain that's for sure.

    Whole lot better than a wasted trip! Never knew they were that visible over that kind of distance - COOL! We're kind of planning a metal detecting (nugget) trip to Nevada next fall. Would be fun to do a little of that too.

    Walking into an early morning sun or late afternoon sun is a good way to spot arrowheads, too...You can scan acres at a time very quickly...Great Video

      @3431590 9 лет назад

      That is the way my brothers and I did it. Look for arrow heads after a rain, sheep , cattle or in the spring..

      Arrowheads are great, but antiquities laws in Utah make it illegal to collect them from public lands. Check out the laws in your state before you go hunting.

    You just got a subscriber! Like the gold vids too! I am more of a gem hunter myself mainly because there is minimal gold in my area but keep the vids coming!

    3:20 to the left of top center. You were pointing at something close and there is a huge sparkle in front of three clumps of grass. I wonder how big that stone was...

      It's not diamond, they are Topaz gems. Really not worth a whole lot unless you find a big one.

    So how does this work? You find it and you can sell it? No paperwork or anything whatsoever? :S

    • @UtahProspector
      @UtahProspector  9 лет назад +1

      That's correct. You can sell them or keep them or do whatever ya what with them. If you found something like this in your country would you have to create paperwork? What country are you from?

    • @UtahProspector
      @UtahProspector  9 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching!

    • @markoknezevic6290
      @markoknezevic6290 9 лет назад

      +Brent DeFox Naah, I'm from Croatia. Our country standards are pretty low so the government takes about 35% of your personal gain. So yeah, even if you want to sell something valuable you gotta give a cut to your country because you didn't actually "earn" it, just like Bingo or the Eurojackpot.

    • @UtahProspector
      @UtahProspector  9 лет назад +1

      Yes, it is a free public prospecting area. If you will just Google it you will see there are plenty of informational websites regarding Topaz mountain. It's out by Delta Utah.

      Is there better month to look for gems? Like fall or summer? Spring?

    • @UtahProspector
      @UtahProspector  9 лет назад

      no, anytime is good for looking. The key is to look in the direction of the sun. Thats when they show up. If you're not looking in the direction of the sun you can't see them. high noon is also a good time.

  • @latengocomoburro

    looks to me like broken glass from a car crash.

    • @Rt395minerals
      @Rt395minerals 9 лет назад

      To the untrained eye, yes, they might look like glass, but if you look closely you can see some are terminated, some are included and I'm sure some have fire in them. These three characteristics can quickly help you separate them from glass.

    • @susanhulett185
      @susanhulett185 9 лет назад

      +latengocomoburro We went to Topaz Mountain about a month ago and found nothing when we hiked around. On our way back to the SUV we looked in the gravel of a couple ant hills (these can be a good place to look) and found some little crystals. We figured they were broken safety glass because they didn't have that vitreous sparkle of topaz. For the quantity we found, none of them had the typical crystal structure of topaz. Our final clue, we found them near the road.

    These are all bleached clear in color, worthless.... Youneed to find pockets in the rock that have topaz, it will then be smokey in color.......

      Mike Hale I read topaz loses color with sunlight.....you have to find a pocket n get a uv sunlight bag to preserve the color that's why most are clear they were on the surface
