      @Galantski 2 года назад +19

      @@Chicanaloca Gaye was & Wilson is extraordinarily gifted, and I'm not going to put one over the other. Both had abusive fathers, as you mention, Marvin's life being more tragic, dying so young at 44, and worse, shot to death by his father. Brian, on the other hand, turns 80 this year but has lived much of that time in the throes of severe psychiatric issues, which is quite tragic in its own way. Both of them hurt themselves at one time or another in their lives with substance abuse.

    Good music is timeless. 1964. I was a African American girl living in Newark, NJ and liked this song. Some of my Italian and Irish friends even laughed at me. Because an entirely different group and sound, The Four Seasons, were the local talent, and what we called Beach Music was considered corny -- even though everyone listened to it. But Brian Wilson's genius ruled the day. This song had a unique dreamy sound that captured what all my girlfriends wanted to say to the boyfriend they didn't have. And when we went "down the shore" you always heard it in the shops and on the radio. Played loud. I actually watched the movie DejaVu with Denzel about 5 times just to hear it on film. I played it at a house party a while back, where people from every corner of the world was present, and everyone got up and danced to it. And everyone knew the words to the song! I am certain every guy would love to have his lady say those words to him at some point in his life especially when he's made a bad decision. "Don't worry baby. Everything will turn out alright."

      I can’t agree with you more, but I will say that, while the vocals were always the highlight, Bryan was a modern day Mozart with the instrumentation he uses. Even the simplest songs on pet sounds still have like at least over 15 instruments. Good Vibrations (I know, not on Pet Sounds) is a symphony. Have you seen the biopic “love and Mercy”? As someone who has not only studied Bryan Wilson extensively, but has also had the privilege of meeting him (got my picture with him and Al, signed my Pet Sounds, Paul Dano as young Brian and John Cusack as older Brian are phenomenal. Just one tiny example: Mozart, at age 13, heard for the first time a 3 hour concert given by the Pope's orchestra, knowing that the Pope proclaimed that no one was to ever release that music outside the Vatican or suffer excommunication. As such, all musical scores were promptly collected and placed back into a secured location after each concert.
      Mozart however, and purely from memory, wrote the entire piece down, for each instrument, without an error. The Pope was so amazed he thought it a gift from God and rescinded his proclamation. That's merely one form of his genius.

    Like many people in their 20's me and my girlfriend and a friend of ours drove to California in the late 80's , from the east coast in Florida. When we drove down the PCH, (pacific coast highway) we couldn't believe our eyes at the veiw in Malibu and surrounding areas. To our left looking up were the mountains and homes within the trees and it was beautiful, but to our right we looked way down upon the massive ocean / beach that seemed to stretch forever. I'm sure our mouths were open in amazement, the waves rolled in one after another, i can still picture maybe 8 or more sets of waves rolling in, surfers riding so many of them, it was a beautiful summer day . We pulled over and just stared for a while, trying to take it all in. I know there are lots of beautiful places on earth, but i will never forget the immense beauty of that Calofornia beach - it truly was like a dream come true to view it.

    Just as thrilling now as it was when I first heard it 40 years ago. In addition to his songwriting gifts, Brian had an unparalleled ability to put real, not fake, emotion in his voice. Superb backing arrangement. Most of us have never raced a car, yet through his artistry Brian takes a specific situation and makes it universal. Three minutes of pure, flowing emotion. Bravo, Brian and the BB's. You will never die.

Got to be up close and personal in the second row when Brian Williams sang solo at the Jones bedroom theater in the late 90s. Read the Wouldn’t I Be Nice. He had a very difficult childhood, but was always able to make sweet music.
