I'm a big fan of this video series and with this being episode 16, a future video idea might be to go back and list the best games you've found while dumpster diving and do a follow up on those that seemed promising, but were still in development to see how they turned out.
At this point it might also be a good idea to go back and put an episode number in the corner of the thumbnails / in the name of the videos as well so it's easier to tell them apart?
@@GameDevYal Generally speaking RUclips's algorithm does not like numbered series, nor does somebody who has never seen a series. Weird RPG is one of the coolest things I've seen in gaming in ages. The potential for a game like that if it was actually taken seriously to create an immersive and massive unique world is incredible.

It's kinda boring tho and after first world if choose to go to wrong world you will have to grind from start or restart game as you absolutely will not be able to progress. It has potential but it's little too grindy.
I played this game before. The gimmick wears off quickly. There aren't many items with interesting mechanics in the game. There like less than 10 ive seen with something "unique". Its still mostly just a really generic and ugly diablo clone with mobile ui. All the enemies are generic, all the environments are generic, and worst of all it is grindy as you get further in. ACE team also made The Eternal Cylinder, which is one of my favorite games. It’s a bizarre, story-driven survival game that involves avoiding a giant crushing cylinder.
The Deadly Tower of Monsters deserves more love too. Simple twin-stick shooter that turns into one of the best homage/parodies of B-Movies I've seen. Excellent stop-motion effects and truly insane fourth wall breaks.
I love how involved the intro has become, not even 30 seconds into the video and you've already dropped like 5 visual gags back-to-back (that also get each point across perfectly)
The mechanic of having your skeleton find your corpse in Clash is very similar to the game Mortal Shell. That's also a Souls-like and currently on sale btw. I think the devs even said they were trying to do their own twist on Dark Souls or something like that. Otzdarva did a playthrough when it was released.
The editing of this video is outstanding. They're all good, but I have noticed that each video has been better than the last. Great work, that hard work is seen and appreciated.
That first game looks awesome, super unique and interesting! Like something that came put in the mid two thousands! I really miss games like this! Everyone plays it so safe these days!
What the fuuuuuck. That Zeno Clash is something I remember watching a playthrough of YEARS ago, and for so long it's been one of those things that's been in the back of my memory but I didn't know enough to Google it and find out what it was. Apparently "first person shooter with giant chicken aliens" isn't enough detail to bring up any search results. I literally couldn't find anything about it and had only vague random snippets of memory, to the point where I was starting to believe I'd just made it up or imagined it. Randomly clicked this video on a whim and now my years-long personal mystery has been solved! Thank you! That in itself deserves a subscription.
I feel like that blind mechanic would work really well in a game, but as like a level gimmick rather than a "This is always the case" type deal. Like a Cyberpunk game where your cyber eyes get hacked or something like that. Just feels like a bit much to have for the whole game imo
I think one of the Deus Ex games had a segment like that, where the MCs augmentations get shut off and you have a boss fight with fucked up vision to deal with
funfact: ACE team's first game was the Batman Doom mod. A pretty fantastic total conversion mod where you play as the Azrael Batman (the 90's batman that had guns and flamethrowers on his wrists) gunning down various villains in gotham
The trailer for Clash was the first time I watched a youtube ad and went "hmm, let me check this out" in the years I've been watching videos. Wishlisted immediately.
I just recently bought and finished Northern Journey, which was pretty incredible and I absolutely never would have heard of if it weren’t for your video on it, so THANK YOU for shouting out these obscure, often bad, but always interesting games!
In defense of Pain Party, in multiplayer, you don't die in 1 hit and you get back up when you get hit. you only get sent back to the beginning if you fall off the level. Also I think the souls-like comes with the boss battles where the janky combat system becomes the main focus, but boss battles are single player only
yeah the game started off as 'gym souls', but then somewhere along the way it turned into this weird fall guys rage game thing. seemed like it was supposed to be like fight dudes in a giant gym dungeon from all the early twitter previews, but then the dev just decided to turn it into a party game? idk why. they made gone golfing, which was a fun horror game where you have to mini golf quickly or get killed by monsters, but then pain party and their new demo for godfist just are unfun. also gone golfing had like a weird amount of updates, most of them just odd compared to the main game mode, not bad, but just like strange. it feels like icehelm made a fun game on accident one time and since then just like have been ignoring if the game is great to play or not.
It was just yesterday when I rewatched all episodes in hopes of getting a new episode, the fact that it indeed came out just made my day 100 times better
I have to say that the microphone based damage in Weird RPG is pretty awesome. I don’t know how it’d hold up thru a whole game, but innovative idea anyway. 👍
Could be fun in a magic game where you have to say the spell you're casting. Would probably still need to be a supplemental element where your basic spells you can cast innately. Those old Harry Potter games where you had to trace the spell pattern in the air to pass classes is what I thought of first. Something like that.
The animator of that boss here: Don't even mention it. It was a complete pain in the ass to make this big guy work. He has a bodybag on his back, with the lantern so it's asymmetric. But the way the turning around is done in the game makes is really hard to do asymmetric stuff work. So I had to fiddle with them around in the turn animations and eye it so it doesn't jerks around when he's going from one animation to an other. Long story short, it's nice to see someone noticed it. At least now I feel like all that extra work was not in vain :D
Dude, I love ACE Team. I was all over them back in the day because of how surrealist their work is. It doesn't seem as solid as Zeno Clash (even though that was buggy as well), but I still love their world design. Another game they made which I liked a lot is Abyss Odyssey.

Zeno Clash 1 and 2 were such fever dreams, but quite entertaining regardless, so i'm really happy to see them return with yet another game, thanks for showing that to me.
This series always has such good recommendations, Lucah: Born of a Dream ended up becoming of of my favorite games, period. I'm absolutely keeping Clash on my radar. It's the first project from a tiny dev team, and I think it has a lot of heart to it.
When he got hit by that falling chandelier you could hear the chain snap before he even got to the bridge. So any future hits taken from it is all on the player. More games should use audio cues to warn you of traps, it’s pretty cool.

I used to be obsessed with the first one when I was younger, hearing about it again just sent me into a nostalgia trip
The art style and creativity in that first game is freaking awesome!
i dont know if its only me but it reminded me a bit of the Borderlands art style
@@St4rKill3r14 yeah it have some of its cartoonish/comic-ish vibes
@@St4rKill3r14 to me, It felt so much more like Oddworld type stuff. Abe's Odysee etc. etc.
@@GentleMannOfHats had to Google for that and now I remember that game, ur right
Reminded me of Giants Citizen Kabuto
The mechanic of having your skeleton find your corpse in Clash is very similar to the game Mortal Shell. That's also a Souls-like and currently on sale btw. I think the devs even said they were trying to do their own twist on Dark Souls or something like that. Otzdarva did a playthrough when it was released.
He's covered it on this channel, I'm almost certain. (Otherwise I wouldn't have commented.)
I've heard mortal shell doesn't really have any varied environments and that it was mostly just inside a forest or some shit
@@user-lh7mt7zo7l it has seperate environments, it’s a very good game but has its moments
@@user-lh7mt7zo7l tried it and was bored shitless ngl...
I swear, every time a new one of these is released, I end up rewatching the whole series. They are just so entertaining.
I love that each video in the series gets longer and longer . Seriously I will be so happy for a 2 hour episode.
Every time this series gets another entry I am filled with joy
Clash looks like one of those arts you did where you had no idea what you were doing but it turned out really good. The game looks super interesting
I love weird sort of janky but not janky games like that.. comes out early March on playstation, def gonna grab it
Feels inspired by Moebius and the like, who definitely knew what he was doing
I feel like that blind mechanic would work really well in a game, but as like a level gimmick rather than a "This is always the case" type deal. Like a Cyberpunk game where your cyber eyes get hacked or something like that. Just feels like a bit much to have for the whole game imo
I think one of the Deus Ex games had a segment like that, where the MCs augmentations get shut off and you have a boss fight with fucked up vision to deal with
Man I absolutely loved the Zeno Clash games. Don’t even remember where I learned about them. Thrilled there’s a new Clash and that it looks so wild
The blind fate concept seems dope af imo, some bigger company should do something like that and actually put the time in to make it good.
Pine can straight up release a video with the same name an infinite number of times and I'll still be here to immediately click on it
Because we know, that he delivers great content - weird, funny and interesting.
I get so stoked whenever i see it
I wish every time he made a new one he would add an "ever" to title, like " souls games you've never ever ever ever heard of"
The gift that keeps on giving.
Dude, Weird RPG is absolutely inspired. Giving buffs to sub-optimal PCs? Beautiful.
The art style and sound effects in mandragora were really impressive, I didn't expect such impactful sounding combat from an indie game
That first game has a great art style and looks like a lot of love went into it. Mandragora looks like it could be good.
I honestly really like that first game. Just needs bug fixes and it could actually be a viable game.
Also that camera needs to get fixed/loosened. Really dislike it
Viable? it looks amazing, it is a work of art.
Its looks amazing fr
It’s not out until February next year, so hopefully they’ll patch up a bit. ACE Team is always interesting, even when their ideas don’t quite work
"skill issue" has to be the funniest death screen ever
Yeah, I hope I can mod this in Elden Ring.
33:19
overused and unoriginal meme like “ratio”
@@fulltimeslackerii8229 don't make me say it.
@@fulltimeslackerii8229 give us an original funny meme then
Damn that first game had surprisingly good sounding voice acting.
Some of the best VA in an indie game that I've seen. They hired pro actors for that.
funfact: ACE team's first game was the Batman Doom mod.
Whoever made the Art for the Arifact clash game should get hired by every studio ever.... it's so unique i love it
Bro whoever made the animations for zeno clash and artifacts of chaos need a raise. They look so good
In defense of Pain Party, in multiplayer, you don't die in 1 hit and you get back up when you get hit. you only get sent back to the beginning if you fall off the level. Also I think the souls-like comes with the boss battles where the janky combat system becomes the main focus, but boss battles are single player only
This still sounds like they have a lot to reconcile.
@@CaptainDoomsday oh yeah it's a bad game for sure, but multiplayer does solve the greatest frustration he's had with the game
yeah the game started off as 'gym souls', but then somewhere along the way it turned into this weird fall guys rage game thing. seemed like it was supposed to be like fight dudes in a giant gym dungeon from all the early twitter previews, but then the dev just decided to turn it into a party game? idk why. they made gone golfing, which was a fun horror game where you have to mini golf quickly or get killed by monsters, but then pain party and their new demo for godfist just are unfun. also gone golfing had like a weird amount of updates, most of them just odd compared to the main game mode, not bad, but just like strange. it feels like icehelm made a fun game on accident one time and since then just like have been ignoring if the game is great to play or not.
@@teddyras his games are definitely just hard for being hard's sake. he's like the puppet combo of soulslikes😅
@@cactuss33ds...puppet combo games aren't that hard my guy, save for their early stuff like Nun Massacre and Power Drill Massacre.
Oh dang, I wasn't ready for the upgraded production value of the intro. This just set the tone for another amazing episode.
The Clash game looks like so much fun tbh definitely gonna keep an eye on it
It was just yesterday when I rewatched all episodes in hopes of getting a new episode, the fact that it indeed came out just made my day 100 times better
"The monsters is getting more". That's basically what happens when I spend my night overthinking.
I have to say that the microphone based damage in Weird RPG is pretty awesome. I don’t know how it’d hold up thru a whole game, but innovative idea anyway. 👍
I mean it's a good item for streamers or youtubers who do have to talk a lot but likely not good in a normal players build.
My partner plays games by freaking out until they die or succeed. I could see that making them very successful
Could be fun in a magic game where you have to say the spell you're casting. Would probably still need to be a supplemental element where your basic spells you can cast innately. Those old Harry Potter games where you had to trace the spell pattern in the air to pass classes is what I thought of first. Something like that.
This series is long enough now that it officially qualifies as a souls like in of itself.
Iron Pineapple is the embodiment of the mother meme telling their kid they have dark souls at home
Wow - at 30:10, the big boss has animations to keep the lantern on a stick in the background, even when he turns around to face left.
The animator of that boss here:
Don't even mention it. It was a complete pain in the ass to make this big guy work. He has a bodybag on his back, with the lantern so it's asymmetric. But the way the turning
around is done in the game makes is really hard to do asymmetric stuff work. So I had to fiddle with them around in the turn animations and eye it so it doesn't jerks around when he's going from one animation to an other.
Long story short, it's nice to see someone noticed it. At least now I feel like all that extra work was not in vain :D
@@bookfish Was the boss inspired by Yorick from League of Legends or is the resemblance coincidental?
AH! So that why that intro felt familiar! Googley is a great animator, happy to see him around
Dude, I love ACE Team. I was all over them back in the day because of how surrealist their work is. It doesn't seem as solid as Zeno Clash (even though that was buggy as well), but I still love their world design. Another game they made which I liked a lot is Abyss Odyssey.
The only one I know from them is rock of ages, and it was terrible. : /
I am forever indebted to you for reminding me of Zeno Clash. I loved those games as a kid and could never remember what they were called or enough about them to find them. THANK YOU!!!
I fucking love the intro, mad respect for taking such time for the sfx, sheer liquidity of the animation, and the funnies along with them.
This is the series that got me to play my first souls game a year ago, and the souls games are now some of my favorite games and this is now one of my favorite series on youtube.
Clash actually looks amazing. Gonna give it a try for sure
Pretty cool of you to have your older brother introduce the games in this one! His voice sounds really cool!
????????
Zeno clash is a core memory for me. You just unlocked the terror that is mother-father
Love the art style of Clash. It would work for an animated series.
“Bread make bread go up. High bread good. Low bread bad.”
Truer words have never been spoken. 🍞
It's so cool looking at the evolution of this series in terms of quality! I'd be interested to know how you originally thought this series would turn out
Clash: artifacts of chaos just seems so weird that it's oddly good... idk how to explain it lol. 4:39 idk why, that scene just threw me off so hard, but I guess I can relate to it lol. 6:31 It's like old school corpse runs. Lmao, 7:00 it takes the best of what dark souls has to offer.
I will literally never get tired of this series
You don't understand the amount of joy these bring me. I rarely rewatch series on yt, and I have with this one. Happy holidays and happy hunting
I love everything Ace Team has done to date, especially Zeno Clash, their work is just so unique! I am looking forward to going back to Zenozoik!
Thanks for bringing it to people's attention, I am hoping this gets more traction than Eternal Cylinder!
33:40 calling knock knock from takeshi's castle the fall guys thing should be a capital offense
Zeno Clash 1 and 2 were such fever dreams, but quite entertaining regardless, so i'm really happy to see them return with yet another game, thanks for showing that to me.
I fell in love with Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. That game is something else
This series always has such good recommendations, Lucah: Born of a Dream ended up becoming of of my favorite games, period. I'm absolutely keeping Clash on my radar.
If nobody's recommended it yet, I recently finished Moonscars, which has EXCELLENT pixel art and some smart combat mechanics.
First one is straight up God of war/Demon Souls mixe up with goofy "badass" characters and it's amazing freaking piece of art at times
The Clash: Artifacts of Chaos looks very cool actually
This made me want to play zenoclash 1+2 again, man I love those games. So happy that Clash is on it's way, I know I'm going to love getting lost looking at that world.
so glad to see someone else super geeked about how weird zeno clash is, i love it
4:42 what the heck was the tone in that "yes"? LMAO
It's like:
