    It is stunning to watch that message " I was once like you" terrible situation. I guess that this video is rather educational and gives us the opportunity to appreciate what we have, but also what we can lose in an instant. Let's be more conscious about those who have lost their home, or simply, those less fortunate than us. Let's help homeless people to have a better life and opportunities, after all, once they were like us.

    I pray about the need for potable water and homelessness every night. I'm very grateful to see a video addressing one of my concerns. I'm not homeless. I'm feeling a bit better knowing something could be on the horizon. While a few models were very practical,the last one, while beautiful, looked painful to sleep in.

    In all honesty, build your everyday home to withstand whatever severe weather affects your region. That means earth ship homes in hurricane and tornado prone areas. We have the knowledge and ability to manufacture beautiful homes that will never be blown away so it's kind of dumb that we build stick built homes at all any more.

    I watch a lot of these, and have a couple of recurring questions: … In the hurricane prone tropics, so many of these designs, once set up, would quickly become little more than mobile solar ovens. Mere ventilation doesn’t seem to be adequate protection from the heat. I never see any designs that include as part of the kit some provision for shade. Anyone who lives in a hot climate knows that ANYTHING just set out in the direct sunlight, is going to be very difficult to cool… And in fact, will quickly become uninhabitable. Add any degree of humidity to that equation, and it becomes much worse. I think that in light of the engineering skill and scientific sophistication of this industry, The virtual absence of any new and innovative designs that address the issue of inexpensive, transportable, yet effective methods of providing cooling, especially in situations where the availability of any type of energy to power such a thing, except for a few designs that have extremely expensive solar panels, continues to go largely unaddressed. I was particularly struck by the one that is made in Austin… I wonder if those guys have taken one of their units, and just set it up out in the parking lot, closed it up, and put a temperature sensor inside?… Maybe something was missing in the description, but I lived in Austin for 20 years, and I can guarantee you, even if it had some passive ventilation, when it gets to be 105°F during the summer, you could bake cookies inside that thing, and probably fry an egg on the exterior roof. It strikes me that ANY of these designs that don’t start with some provision for them to shade them selves… Even a lightweight canopy of some sort… is bound to fail in a hot climate. This industry should be the source of cutting edge technologies that address the cooling of a small structure. The other recurring issue has to do with these structures that are meant to float. If you put someone in an enclosure with no windows, no ability to see the horizon, no opportunity for the eyes to match what they are seeing with the motion they are experiencing, I would imagine that at least half the people the board would become incapacitated with motion sickness within minutes, as most of these designs have no provision for any kind of stabilization. That one unit that is a sphere struck me in particular… Have they found even one test volunteer who could be closed up in that thing and tossed into even moderately heavy seas that didn’t become ill almost right away? speaking for myself, as long as I can see out, I can ride in a car for hours and be fine, but if I look down to read or look at my phone, focus on something close , I will feel the nausea creeping in within seconds. As soon as I look up and re-focus on the environment passing by, it goes away. It could be as little as providing some kind of windows in these units that could help tremendously. Either no one thought of that, or they tried it and it didn’t work, or they aren’t understanding just how big of a problem this could be.

      Kenneth Vaughan we obviously have a good and active understanding about how confined heat effects people and pets. Just look at the ads reminding people to not leave their kids or their dogs in a hot car; people will risk being sued to break a car window in order to save a kid or dog. So it confuses me that we make such items without this concept in play, it’s ludicrous.

    Simple, sturdy, cheap structures that assemble in minutes are the best route. However the units that take no tools, can house entire communities, and can be erected in a matter of hours or one day do have their place. For videos like this it would be nice to add the price list or range of prices in the description as well as the video itself. That way updates can be made to the description as the video ages without losing views to make an updated video.

    These are all temporary shelters.

    We have enough old tents in the worlds military storage to give everyone a shelter right now.
    They go into surplus sales regularly.

    If it's shtf time, then long assembly times are not going to be helpful. These were all great ideas though.

    l love you guys. lm so sad that after over 100 years there are still people homeless and the arthorities make it look like its only a group of people but its all people that dont own their own home. lts not safe living in rental you have to live the way the owner says and tiny homy things like changing the house to suit what you love in living is always in question or not allowed at all. The homeless is a lot bigger amount of people than is being put out there. To tell someone they can live in something like a shelter for a set amount of time is soul crushing because your mind cant rest you're always stressed with the question what will l do then? lts kind to let people own a place of their own, everything else is questionable!!

    Are you sure about your number one design? It’s is a bunch of CNC cut pieces of plywood? Who’s idea was this! Talk about wasted resources in manufacturing and the tremendous waste for shipping to a disaster area? I think the design looks like an amazing piece of sculptured art work but doesn’t belong in a homeless disaster shelter contest. You have put together a thoughtful array of some low cost and rapidly deployable designs in some of the creations but your number one design should top the category for how not to design a disaster shelter. Please do me one favor, calculate the amount of plywood wasted off the build, and the electricity spent on cutting the all these pieces out and all the man-hours spent on creating this Albatross of a disaster shelter and compare all these designs side-by-side and if you still feel it’s your number one I would be surprised. Also the red sphere with the hatch should be constructed out of composite material. Aluminum will puncture from debris that will strike it while its floating, and drown all seven of its occupants before they can unstrap and exit the craft. Actually it more of an escape pod that could be jettisoned off a watercraft. Not sure if it belongs in this group either, but having an emergency transmitter beacon onboard tells me the designer had other ideas about this container.

    • @mindseyedesign
      @mindseyedesign  4 года назад +2

      Good points, but it's more beneficial to focus on the shelters that are more suiting to their need. Rather than single one out and focus on all the negatives. I intended for the list to be reordered. However, the editor didn't get the memo.

    • @MrWATCHthisWAY
      @MrWATCHthisWAY 4 года назад +1

      Minds Eye Design I too like to focus on the positives, but if I’m explaining the cost of expenditures to donators like myself and organization would like to know that the people spending their dollars are going to provide the best solution for the least amount spent. In this video you present some really great designs and outstanding possibilities that would be able to accommodate a large amount of people for minimal investments, but the design you gave the number one spot to in my estimates could house several more people if the designer would take all the sheets of plywood and just make a simple box construction as with most of the designs put fort in your video. I sorry if you feel I am being negative but as a mechanical engineer I always look for the best solution for the least amount of cost. So if you can tell me that your number one design meets this criteria then I’ll say I am wrong? I personally think it would be a great design for your video on the unusual destination hotel accommodation. Maybe on a beach overlooking the ocean in so exotic place? I do love seeing a notification from your channel pop up. Your team puts together some great ideas and innovations so please keep up the great work.

    John 3:16
    [16]For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.John 14:6
    [6]Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.Romans 10:8-9
    [8]But what does it say? The Word (God's message in Christ) is near you, on your lips and in your heart; that is, the Word (the message, the basis and object) of faith which we preach, [Deut. 30:14.]
    [9]Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

    No offense but some are just boxes... shelter isn't just for physical needs but psychological ones too... No culture likes living in boxes okay.... The could've quadrupled the size of the Living Shelter... because of lack of support nowadays people are stranded for days... so the size just be drastically increased to a small home. They can afford to do that much. Japan, btw, is know for neets and societal dropouts, no faith or no practical faith and the highest suicides rate... so a low homelessness rate means nothing if people are suffering in homes and they'd rather be free. Reminds me of this short movie set in America where a man who wanted to bring a homeless child to a home but the child didn't want that and the man understood that she's better off on the streets than in awful homes. Physic, psych & spirit… if these 3 aren't healthy then it doesn't matter what numbers you flaunt.

      Really? How so? This video is one example of people putting their talent, skill and heart into finding ways to give shelter to people made homeless thru disaster, war or personal circumstance. People who are at rock bottom, most likely scared, cold and vulnerable. The designs may have flaws or not be practical/suitable for some environments but at least the designers are making an effort to help. How are you helping people?

    A couple of the designs are worthy of taking a look at. However, credibility is completely lost when you tie anything to the United Nations.
