Transformer Oil Sampling Training: Part 2 Bottle Sample

There are some sampling techniques better suited for certain types of oil tests than others. The techniques described in this video should be sufficient to sample oil when common chemical and physical properties are analysed, such as Breakdown Voltage, Interfacial Tension, Acidity (or Neutralization Number), Colour and Visual Inspection.

To avoid trapping air into the transformer, the outer valve should be opened first (noted in IEC 60475). This was done the other way around here. Was this intentional, mistake or my intepretation wrong?

Hi, That's for expansion as he said. If the bottle goes somewhere warmer, the oil will get larger and if there is not enough space to expand, it will put off the cap and spill. We experienced it. Hope this helps.

It should be dark glass or aluminium. Transparent glass is not OK because sunlight deteriorates oil pretty quick. And plastic can react with oil, so, dark glass or special aluminum or steel bottle.
