Love your videos. I've been cutting gems for many years. Still learn from others all the time. Thanks for your great tips. Finally upgrading my antique American factor. Just ordered a brand new Facetron. Getting excited at this point lol.

Very nicely put together video. Would this de-glazing process also work on Lightning laps? I have a D'lite 3K that is not performing as it once did. Thinking this may help. Curious to know the risk of contaminating the lap with the Lava Soap. Thanks.

      Thanks for the comment.
You can de-glaze the D'lite laps this way, though many are having success wiping them down with acetone on a clean scrap of T-shirt.
You do want to be careful with the D'lites because they are not nearly as robust as the Nubonds. And, when you go back to using, keep in mind the four rules of preventing (delaying) glazing:
      1. Don't use them on hard stones.
      2. Do use lots of water.
      3. Use lighter pressure.
      4. Use slower speed.
      Hope this helps.

Exactly the kind of reply I needed. Will see how the Acetone works before doing anything more aggressive. Much appreciated.

Is Facetron your favourite? Lol. I hear every faceter has a different opinion. I want to get a machine and I like the way UltraTec has the screw thread upright - but is that necessary?

Sorry that I just saw this question.
Any faceting machine must have a way to control the height of the head. Many machines separate coarse height adjustment from fine adjustment.
Facetron, Alpha Taurus, and many others do this. Facetron and Alpha Taurus use a smooth mast with a locking bolt for their coarse adjustment, and then use a micrometer that raises and lowers the mast itself.
Ultra Tec (and most other machines that use a lead-screw) integrate both fine and coarse height adjustment in the lead screw.
Both systems work; both allow for precise cutting and repeatability - as well as efficient work.
      Hope this helps.

I tried a nubond lap and it fell to pieces on me. It dropped chunks out of itself every stone I tried to prepolish on it. After about 5 stones there wasn't a single usable area on the thing. It was a horrible waste of money and time and caused no end of headaches every time it damaged a stone.

Raytech had some issues when they were forced by regulation to change their formula for the paint. While working on the new formula, there were some production runs that did indeed fall apart. We had some of these items appear in our classroom. They were an aggravation to work with, but Raytech made good on every single one of them.
The product line has now been sold to Rick Scott, producer of the Raytech-shaw faceting machine. As of the date of this reply (look at date) he hasn't yet begun shipping his iteration. I'm confident that he will return the product line to its former glory - and that he'll make good on any hiccups that occur during the process.

      Hi, RocDoc,
The Nubond is not presently available in the market. There is one alternative - which is not really recommended. And, there's at least one company doing serious R&D toward entering the market void. Anyone subscribed to my newsletter will receive information on any of these things as soon as it develops.
