This is such an iconic moment in Dutch television history.
That whas my reason for request this one . if you didn't like the performance you will remember it till to today after more than 30 years . just like we see in the comments hahaa 😘👍 greets jacco
For me the most powerful moment was the end, where Paul de Leeuw hugged and kissed Rene Klijn. You can tell it wasn't scripted.
Remember, this was the time when the fear of Aids was at its peak, and even being near someone with Aids was a no-go.
I Remember that. Paul set an example of love, not fear.
Didn't this episode of the show win an international reward? What ever you think of Paul de Leeuw, he made a lot of crazy stuff but also use his fame that to normalise things that were controverse in the society in general.
Actually this was after. The peak of what you describe in the Netherlands at least was in the '80's. In late 1992 when this was recorded it was generally known how you could be infected and how you couldn't.
Oh man, I remember this.... This made a big impact on many Dutch people.
When I feel lonely I listen to this song, Renée and Paul wrote history on TV with this performance.
This was back in the days of HIV being a death sentence because the medication only could slow it down to some degree, eventually you would contract AIDS and that was it, end of life in sight.
Sad times when you look back, glad to say we have made a lot of progress since then and you now can grow old and have a full life with a HIV diagnose.
This was the final tv performance of Rene, he could no longer stand or walk for more than a minute or so, even laying down on that sofa was already draining all his energy, and he still was able to give us such a beautiful song, so heartfelt and so emotional, a song so pretty that it still holds the same impact today, as it did back then.
Sometimes life is painful and beautiful at the same time, i think that performance was one of those extremely rare occasions, and will never forget it.
Yes, during that time it was really hard. I completely understand that it was a dark place too and that the best thing to focus on was to focus on the positive aspects of life and focus on what to come is about. We we are warriors we fight until the end. It's that need to fight to survive.
Actually this wasn’t his last tv performance. It was his first as a solo artist….sadly enough in these circumstances. He performed several times on tv after this and the song became a big hit in the Netherlands in 1993. The single version had a beautiful saxophone solo by Candy Dulfer. Btw it’s actually a cover song. The original if from Yazoo. He indeed died a year later..
This is definitely a beautiful song. It hit me in my feels on different levels. I absolutely love this song.
When I look at this I still get emotional.
I cant believe it's so long ago already. He sang his heart out and with all the emotions he still had in him
It also reminds me of the legendary Freddie Mercury, he also died of aids.
HxC, you are doing a such a great job and spreading love with all kinds of music music with your music chanel.
Up to the 50k and much more. Greetings from The Netherlands.
Very touching performance. I remember watching it back then. And the message is still relevant today. Thanks for your reaction 🤗
I still know this song by heart. Rene Klijn was a model and so beautifull. And aids hit him hard. His wish was to have a nr. 1 hit song before he died. And Paul de leeuw (the presenter) wanted that dream to come true. And it became nr. 1. And we never forgot brave Rene.
The studio version he made of this song, includes Candy Dulfer on saxophone. The B-Side is My Best Friend, originally done by Loïs Lane, the two singing sisters Klemann. A beautiful song too.
I still remember this like it was yesterday. So emotional.❤
Memorable performance!
Let love win, and help each other no matter wich situation ❤️
Paul de Leeuw is a homosexual and was the first to so openly break the silence about HIV aids. So much respect for them both. Paul gave him a stage and himself being humble. Beautiful!
R.I.P. Renee .
I remember this, very emotional. I can still sing the song along. It was a hit after he died.
Remember that in 1992 AIDS was still a big taboo. Multiple Dutch artist were asked to perform in the show in which this song was recorded. Only Lois Lane agreed to cooperate.
hey, Johan Derksen
So sad.Now we have the medicines to get old with Aids. R.I.P Rene.
It was amazing i will never forget mister blues 💙 ♥️
Love Jakko's input !... René was terminal of aids .... this was exhausting for him.. remember i was crying when i heard it
Yes.. I remember this as if it was yesterday. Almost 30 years ago. I was 17 and for me it was one off the first people to see that was diagnosed with aids-hiv. It impressed so much... 🙏🙏🙏
We are the same age, but at that age I was studying to become a nurse and we had a girl our age admitted who had aids (attracted it from her first boyfriend who lied to her and told her he was also a virgin). She did not survive and passed away around the time of this song. I still choke up if I hear it.
@@ncoppens That's horrible. I can imagine that this is something you never forget...
@@mirelladevries632 Well it made sure I never took any risks with using protection ;-)
Same! Only I was 11 back then..
I didn’t even know it was a cover song, but it is. The original is from Yazoo. But René totally made it his own. I was 11 when this was aired, but I still remember it vividly. He made a huge impression back then.
mr. blue... we willen never forget in the netherlands ❤
This man stole ànd broke everybody’s heart this evening.
This was in 1992, it gave me chills then, it give me chills now
He was very sick at that moment, not long after this he died..
Oh ja, I remember this on TV. Zoooooo moooooooiiiiii!
Good to see this iconic moment again, we will see this more in the future.
Thankx Paul😇🥰😘
This had a ripple effect of sadness throughout The Netherlands
At the end of the day … you follow orders… and you and your body have to cope ….sad world sometimes … too many times
Have seen him at a other tv programme that time and his ashes have been thrown close to the Statue of Liberty in the water
This version by Rene Klijn is much better than the original by Yazoo.
I remember him like it was yesterday, and now I am still crying 🙏
Great song picks from your subscribers, I was too young back then to really understand the impact of what he sang, but I get it now. And I love your reflexion on the lyrics, I could listen to HxC-radio hear you talk all night long!
Please never stop this channel, the fact that you force me to start thinking about life in general, about the decisions I made and decisions I still have to make in the future are invaluable. It made me realize that I (and I figure that this goes for a lot of people) never really listened or looked for what was or is truly going on.
R.I.P Rene
Paul the Lion (translation) lol
wow, this brings back memories, i remember watching this show on dutch tv, it touched the core of me. We have come a long way since but still a way to go... Love is for everyone!
rip rene klein
Beautiful:-)
Thanx for reacting on this one Paul . love and respect greets jacco ❤
I remember seeing this as a kid. I lost some innocence that day, it really made me feel that death was real. Still makes me tear up.
❤
If I’m not mistaken, the sells from this album was going to aids research fund.
❤️❤️❤️
This whole show was for and about René Klijn, and creating awareness about HIV and Aids. He used to be in a boyband and was aiming for a solo career. Paul fulfilled his wish as Rene's life was coming to an end, this became a hit . Also a beautiful performance that evening was of Loïs Lane with My Best Friend.

A few months later, René would be dead. Pauls performance is a bit underwhelming if you look at his singing, but you got to remember: Paul De Leeuw started out as a comedian: doing funny types and making jokes. He also did some children songs ('come join me under the rainbow' 'kom met me mee naar de regenboog' for example), but he was not really 'a singer'. Its a shame that Paul is now a bit a sell out, he was really avant garde when he started out, but has not made anything worth while in yeaaars. The song 'mr Blue' was re-recorded and released the same year, that René died. It was nr 1. ruclips.net/video/77MM6rwwucc/видео.html
