Back in the early 90’s I used to run a Metal Zone into a Fender M80 power amp section with a 10 band eq into a Carvin 4x12 cabinet. Straight up 90’s death metal tone.
I appreciate your emphasis on dialling in tones that you could actually use in a song/mix, as you said, usable tones. Thanks for demonstrating what excellent tone taste sounds like!
Wonderful demostration, you have sold me on the Waza version to pair with my Joyo California. Some youtubers cling onto the idea that cuz Boss doesn't confirm it is a preamp then it isn't, even if there is proof of it,so silly. Again, excelente video amigo!
I've never owned a Metal Zone, although I've probably been using Boss pedals since 1985. I have a friend, a phenomenal blues and jazz player, who's been using a Metal Zone for decades, and he loves how it boosts his leads. My favorite Boss pedals are the DS-1, SD-1 and Blues Driver. I also love their Chorus, Flange, Delay, EQ, etc.
i have used a mz for decades. it sounds great into almost any amp or power amp. its all in how you turn the knobs. it can also do a great low gain sound.
Fascinating! I know nothing about music distortion but I looooove the sound of your guitar playing and the lingo used is incredible! Thank you Richie Castellano for the lesson in acoustic! 😂
Love Metal Zone! I wont be without one. But.....i dont use it very often. My go to is one of my many Zoom 606 pedals thru the loop of my Marshall MG100GDFX. I love Zoom 606. They are obsolete now so I buy em every time i see them reasonably priced.
My first processor was a zoom 606. Man I remember that thing. I had banks amd patches setup for all kinds of different things. For what it was I loved it.
I'm hearing a buzzsaw with zero mids or bass until around 7:00-then it starts sounding pretty sweet! For a less $$, I'll bet putting the MZ in front of a Quilter Phantom Block, used Crate Powerblock or the like would be a dirt cheap fly rig.
The only problem with the MT2 is they are so sensitive, and it takes a while to find that sweet spot dialed into react right with your right. But once you find it. Take a damn picture or glue the knobs down! haha!
I've been using the metal zone models in the helix. They're the only good high gain pedals IMO. There are a few versions and they're each excel at different things.
I have been using the BOSS SD-2, pre the Epiphone Valve Jr head into a VOX 30 watt 12" speaker. It's OK, might can do better with my LINE 6 original POD. But now I want to get the MT-2, been a long time since I had access to a variety of pedals. Thanks for sharing.
It feels like the Metal Zone makes it a bit of a 1 trick pony. Might be fun to try this with a Blues Driver BD-2... or maybe a Keeley Super Phat Mod? or maybe stack the 2 for graduated gain stages/stacking. It could be interesting. BTW - I saw you play down in Hollywood in February with BOC - loved it!!
Playing is great. Powe amp and cab is great. You have great chops and have given me some great ideas overall but man , I gotta ask. Where did you get that little pedal stand at!?!?!? Seems it is a mini guitar stand made for pedals. I’d go broke if I knew where they sold em !! Thanks bro. New sub here!
Yassuh! Why is there so much hate out there re: the Meat Zone?! I LOVE this thing and now have two of ‘em. I can make ANYTHING, (5W guitar amp, laptop with audio interface, whatever) sound instantly awesome. I will NEVER understand gear snobs… ‘til the day I die.
Someone help me out. I've used a metal zone for years through a Line 6 Flextone 2, clean channel, fx loop. I liked it. Now I have a boss katana artist and I cannot get a satisfactory tone, running the metal zone the same way. Someone help me out please.
Yeah i dont think that 57 is catching that low end. When u first cranked the low i heard the opposite. Sounded like you cranked the treble or just made it louder.

The moment I read your post I instantly felt the hate crawl inside my loins for the sh1t tone you had..... I can hear it already lmao
The Metal Zone has made a huge comeback. It's like, "Look at me now, mfers!!!!!" If only people plugged it in the right way to begin with. 😂😂😂😂
Everyone saying use it in the loop.... mine is in the front of the amp and I get great tones. It's dialed in nice and nasty. Heavy but tight

@@dilloncox1238 they can still be found on reverb sometimes. Usually reasonably priced.
Great video
Sounds great to me man, but I am a fan of the pedal. You just really need to spend time dialing it in. At least I did anyway haha. Rock on! \m/
amazing sound

Great video!! Love your content

I tried this with my Peavey VTM60 / 412MS half stacks back in 1994 :)
I'd love to see you do a series with other pedals into the power amp and cab. TubeScreamer, SD-1, HM-1, BE-OD any others.
5:45 Reminds me of the sound Neal Schon got on the studio version of "Where Were You."

Fun!
Great video man!
Was wondering how long/depth of the power amp?
Well, that was interesting ...
Reminds me of a dumble overdrive special
Any thoughts on new line 6 helix 3.50 updates , Richie

I sold my MZ when I was broke, with spine surgery.
At the Gates used a Metalzone with a HM-2 boosting it

Lol, it’s a stand for a camera phone

Richie, more Line 6 please.
Helix (firmware 3.5), Powercab plus, Variax. Thanks in advance.
You should try the AMT S2 or something from the AMT SS family with real preamp tubes. I love my SS-20.
Love that pedal straight to the amp, The sound ranges from a convincing "Anthrax" tone into a Corrosion of Confirmity "Blind" very easily
Newbie favo😁👍🏼👍🏼
Richie, I got my MetalZone in 97 & it's always sounded like a damn chainsaw. I eventually got it modded by AnalogMan but it sounds the same.
The woman tone
I'm interested in thrash and death metal myself.
run it into some effects too Richie.... intellifex in between may be awesome!
Can you do the patch for this for the HX STOMP if it can be done your the guy to do it !
Surprising, but still sounds scooped and fizzy?
I've heard that in the past! Let's see....hear! .... somebody can re-package it is an instant Woman Tone sim lol....
The mid frequency needs to be set to 1 o'clock on this pedal.
I like cheese! 😁
Lova d'cheese
Just goes to show that it's a poor craftsman who blames his tools! Sounds great!

How come when you boost your levels you get earvana, while when I do it I just get yelled at?
Use an eq pedal for solos you don’t wana be fuckin around mid song with an mt2 eq controls
Really good idea!
sounds germanium.... I just throw a blues breaker pedal in front of a steel singer pedal and pick my own level of froth.
Meh
Metal zone is the best. I run mine through a 10 band EQ to get heavier tones. Under ratted pedal for sure ....
