I actually remember one time when Heat Evolution was the newest game, and I decided to do a full 500 lap Martinsville race as JJ. Since, 9 year old me didn't know how to drive, I did the Hail Melon every, single, lap. I went on to win and cheat that race because yes.
Its a common move in many racing games, but developers realize people try to do it a lot so some games put a penality if you try to do this move. Also theres a question of geometry, if the modeled wall isnt polid, the game's physics will make a collision effect, but if its straight polid it will work perfectly. You can see it was gaining speed on the first try, but then the car was throwed to the side as if he collided with an object on his right side.
Not affective because Chastain said he put it in 5th gear and never let off this dude only in 4th and it sounds like he lets off before the turn each time
@@Heaveaway23 just in general for racing games. Many people never use the brakes. They use the wall or other cars. Forza horizon 5 had this issue so they ghost cars and slow you down if you wall grind.

Developers often make wall riding ineffective by slowing you down or snagging for a crash since it would be a powerful move used by everyone if it worked.
The new composite body will allow it, the old bodies would catch and drag the wall. I'm sure NH5 has imitated metal bodies. I wanted to try it also in NH5, works a little better in Rfactor2 Monster energy mod
It’s not that it’s imitated metal bodies, it’s just video game design. The barrier’s geometry isn’t perfectly smooth so the car’s collision model catches on the edges of the barrier geometry and this happens
The main deciding factor is in the gearing to make it as effective as Ross' move. He upshifted to fifth gear probably for the first time that day, thus the instantaneous torque boost that carried him through even quicker. With equal gearing on the limiter, the cars speed would've just kinda stalled out.
I had an old 2002 sim that would make the car apply brakes to keep you from doing this. You'd go to the replay booth and it would show the brake meter about 1/4 of the way red.
Ross was at 130 MPH when his speed recorder quit about halfway through the turn, the other drivers were in the 60 MPH range on that turn, he went at least twice as fast as everyone else and kept a ton of that speed throughout the entire move.
This may be copied but will never come out of the blue and work as great as Chastain made it work. Absolutely stunning nothing left to lose Hail Mary that worked. Much respect to Ross.

On Door Bumper Clear they stated this is something Josh Wise has had drivers attempt using the Chevy simulators, so it really wasn't as last minute as I first thought. Don't get me wrong, it was still awesome, but it had recently been practiced several times in a racing simulator.

It doesn’t work on this game because these games are garbage and it’s not like how the tracks were built on in our nr2003 or iracing, the only reason why your car did that is because the way these games were made and also the physics
People used to do it In Qualifying. You could also run an inch from the Wall at Daytona and clip the gate. The damage to the rear of your car lowered it and made you faster.

And that's the thing. Any important imperfection in the wall or overbearing too much against the wall would stop you hard. It's a wildcard of a move.

Real life physics vs game based physics with devs that know people don't use brakes just walls and other cars to turn.

Most games are coded to have an invisible "barrier" in place to keep players from doing this.

Nascar Racing 4 and Nascar Racing 2002 Nascar Thunder 2003-05.
Turn down to the 5th gear and put the pedal to the metal.
You gotta smash into it harder. At the end you were riding it more, I think that slows it down
