There's a much easier way of doing you might have to add a little bit more than just a book a air hose but put a cage and a check ball so you can suck up as much water as you want and not have to worry about getting anything in the unit
I tried it, it kindof works but some water did get into the vacuum even on the lowest setting. With a small amount of water and a vacuum that you don't care too much if it gets wrecked. It's certainly clever, so kudos for that
Hey Philip, try to make the hole for the pipe fas possible from the hole where vacuum cleaner is connected. If they are close each other, might go some water in the machine.
It doesn't go water in the vacuum cleaner unless the bottle is filled up with water, then it will start sucking the water. So, you must stop the vacuum cleaner before the bottle is filled up :)

Add a vent hole to reduce the suction so your container won't collapse. The vacuum doesn't need to be that strong to suck up water.

Maybe.. I haven't tried it. I guess in this case, you will need a bigger tank and higher suction.
yes you can even clean the Ocean with it.
Used a big paintbucket didn't work as i hoped it just crunched the bucket
