Really handy Jean, especially for Christmas decorations or things that just eat batteries within a few days. I would say in a year they pay for them self. Thanks for watching and commenting Jean :-)
Your home is looking lovely. It's so nice to see the changes you've made in the house. It looks so different from last year. Great Job! Your Christmas decorations are beautiful. See you next weekend. I truly enjoy your videos. Hope you both start feeling better soon.
Hi Ellen. When we came up with the idea of showing clips from last years "A Very Different Christmas" video and we watched it, we couldn't believe how different it looked and we were pleased last year, if a little chilly. Curtains, blinds, carpet (a big rug) chairs and so on. It really is a nice space to sit and relax now watching Christmas films. I am feeling much better thank you, Dawn is still feeling quite rough. Hopefully the next few days we will be back to normal. Thank you for such lovely comments Ellen and thank you for watching :-)
That battery change is genius. Ben and Dawn please consider yourselves before your viewers, and recover from illness first, we will always follow the pair of you. Use wall insulation on the heaters it will help with the freezing xxx. 😘 😊😊😊😊😊
You are just lovely Maria. I think Dawn has already said thank you for our Christmas Super Thanks, but from me, thank you too, so much. The heating wire arrives yesterday so hoping to get the pipes wrapped this week. Then it will just be the gas regulator. I think this one might not be working properly. Again Maria, thank you :-)
Last year might have been rubbish year for you but I think you guys have done a fabulous job you have definitely definitely come a long way. Happy Christmas 🎄
Sorry to hear you’ve been poorly. Loved the tour of the house - you have come so far in a year! Just think where you will be in another year. You are making such good progress. Well done! Your hard work is paying off. ❤. Barbara Olson, San Antonio, Texas
Thanks Barbara, we are feeling brighter, not fixed but brighter. You are right, we never though about this time last year with still sleeping in the kitchen, the ceiling in the bedroom not "finished" and closer to getting in the bedroom, we popped off to collect the large dining room table for the kitchen. So yes, when you look back to last December, we did quite a bit. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and reminding us on our progress :-) We hope all is well in Texas :-)
Thank you so much Janine for the welcome. We love it here. Rural, windy, cold and living in a work in progress farmhouse. We wouldn't change it for the world. Now we have real heat in the house it is a game changer. Thank you again and thank you for watching and commenting :-)
I just adored that little live tree! All the progress. What a good thing you did turning this old corner house into this home. It will be more functional and definitely more beautiful each year!
It’s a lovely little tree and looking very healthy. Fingers crossed bringing it indoors doesn’t kill it 🤞aww yes, we are so pleased with how it is all starting to look. Lots still to do but we can definitely see it turning into a home now! ♥️
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting :-) The little real tree from Tesco did real well over the year. It was completely ignored and just lived outside, on it's side when it was windy or got knocked and stood up when we noticed haha. We are pleased with it's growth though. Hopefully it will survive being inside for Christmas. No idea how much water we need to give it. The warmth really makes the whole house feel cosy. Have a nice rest of the week and thanks again :-)
We like your way of looking at it Alida and you are right. It was only when we watched the video from last year did we really see the difference. Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
I sympathise! We have been hit by the same storm in rural North Wales - roads closed, power off for 3 days, lots of future firewood all over the place. But as you must know, these occasional upsets are well worth the rewards of living in such an idyll.
Oh yes, we don't mind being without power for a little while. My own fault we were out of petrol, should have got some weeks ago, it isn't like a power cut is unheard of out here. The large tree that blocked the road on Saturday is still blocking the road today, Tuesday, but al the rest have now been cleared and I think most places have restored power. Thanks for watching and commenting and hope you are back to normal now :-)
It says so much about the two of you that despite being sick, you decorated in such a lovely and warm way, fixed stuff, and put together a video. I just read that couples that get along well age slower-you both are defying time. :) Foil-covered bubble wrap works wonders as insulation over things like regulators and batteries. I love Lucas's room; it is such a reflection of his character. Carry on, regardless, as my mom often said.
Ooh that’s good news then with aging slower! 😉 The Christmas decorations look lovely and we’re very glad we carried on and put them up as it’s been so lovely in the evening to have the stove burning and tree lights twinkling away when we’ve been feeling rough. Have to say it does seem to be dragging on this one, we did realise though that this is the first time in a long time we’ve been this poorly 🤒 so maybe that’s why it’s hit hard…we’re not used to it! 😂 Ooh I wonder if I have any foil bubble mailing envelopes…I’ll have to have a look in my stash of packaging. Lukas very much liked your comment when I read it to him, he is very proud of how his room is looking. So thank you Sharon for making his day! ♥️
Hi guys nice to see you back together Ben a little tip change that regulator on that gas bottle re-new that pipe coming out of your gas bottle as that pipe looks discoloured, plus put a bit of lagging around the pipe wrap a tea towel around the regulator I would use butane gas as that is okay up to -20. We have the same in Ireland don’t have a problem never frozen That fireplace looks lovely well done 👍👍
Hi Truth, I could be wrong, as it has been known often lol but LPG has the much lower freezing point and Butane much higher. This is why LPG is used outside and Butane, on a whole, inside. With that said, it is unusual for Butane to freeze even outside. I think our problem is the gas regulator is no good and needs replacing. I wrapped it up tightly a couple of nights ago and still in the morning it needed warm water on it to get it working. The pipes weren't frozen either so it wasn't cold cold. I may stick a temporary boxing around the gas bottle and be done with it. With both ours and your fingers crossed we will have a range in the kitchen next year with huge amounts of hot water from the back boiler. We will see lol. Thank you as always Truth for joining us and commenting with valuable information :-)
What a beautifully decorated home. I just sold my home and moved to a senior living facility and will be unpacking forever 😊. But I will be putting my tree up when I can clear one little area up ❤❤❤. Loving your decorating ideas 😊
Oh yes, make your new home HOME with a Christmas tree, it brightens up any room for 4 or 5 weeks doesn't it. The downside is it looks so dark when you take the tree down again. We hope you are very happy in your new home Deb and get settled in really quickly.
As soon as you started talking about everything being super cold around all of your outside services, I thought that you needed to make some housing/ covers for everything. It doesn't have to be super nice just functional until you have more time. Just stay warm and safe.
Hi Jill I do need to get the pipes boxed in and you are right, it doesn't need to be super nice, so I might try and crack on with that soon. The heating wire for the pipes has arrived though so that will stop the pipes from freezing (we hope). We are very warm in the house and now the winds have passed, safe too. Thank you so much for watching and commenting Jill :-)
Hi, Dawn and Ben!! Maybe last week was tough all over! Our deck replacement was one upted by a toilet leak that leaked through the ceiling and led to the removal of the wood floor! Phew! Glad it’s over lol! It’s very impressive that despite being sick, you plowed on and got your decorations done! Hopefully next week will be better for all of us!! See you next week!!
Ooh no! How completely annoying! Why do things have a habit of going wrong just when good things are about to happen eh? I hope you’ve had a better week so far. Ours continued a bit longer as our electric went out on the Friday before the video and didn’t come back until yesterday afternoon! Luckily we have our generator so we weren’t completely in the dark lol. Also even more lucky for us is our rain water collection as most people that were without electric were also without water for the same amount of time. The Christmas decorations being up are lovely though especially when you’re feeling a little sub par! ♥️
Oh it really was, it was hard to sleep with all the noise. So surprised to see no slates missing from our roof! Our power finally came back on Monday. Lots of people around us had no power or water, so really we were lucky having rain water as our supply and a generator too. Glad to hear you had no trees down and the power stayed good. 😊
i love your warm cosy house and the christmas trees and decorations are really beautiful. I’m so happy that ye have all the fires going and that you’re nice and warm. Lucas s tree is really cool too and his warm fire so cosy. Big shout out to your daddy Dawn with the cute ornaments
Hi Annie, we hope you are well. The house is looking very festive. Tomorrow or Thursday may see the outside lights go up, which will be nice. Yes, Lucas always does a good job on his tree. Dawn has loads of lovely ornaments, the cat is a great one. Thank you Annie for always watching and commenting :-)
The difference from last year to now is amazing and very well done and your both looking so happy. Look up a product called Vicks First Defence which is a nasal spray and squirt up the nose when you first get a sore throat and stops it dead and nothing develops from it. Great idea with the battery converter and will save money. On the gas bottles can you make a frame to where you could slide in a thick sheet of polystyrene over the top to keep valves frost free. Very glad the fires are doing their job and giving you free heat. Keep safe and have fun and keep warm guys.
Thanks Simon. We were quite shocked by last years video with how sparce it looked, except for the corner full of boxes. It is a nice room now, warm and cosy. Although it still needs plaster doing, a ceiling and what-not, it is a lovely room. Ah, we will have to have a look for some of that Vicks if you think it is good. Thank you. The battery convertor is working well and hassle free so far. Time will tell how it goes. We may just need a new regulator as this stop working with the mention of the word cold. We are loving the stoves. The walls are all warming up and even our bedroom is benefitting a little bit as we have the other doors open to let the hot air circulate around the house. Hope all is well with you Simon :-)
Hi Kelly Dawn's dad is very clever, can do pretty much anything really. The years feels like we haven't done anything huge, but I suppose huge things will stop and it will be the little bits that will bring it all together. Thanks so much Kelly for watching and commenting :-)
The Christmas decorations are lovely. Dawn you dad is very talented. I love how green your grass is still. Even here in sunny Florida my grass is not that green. Hope y’all have a Merry Christmas and a very productive New Year. And get well soon 🎄🎄🎅🪨🪨🪨🌲🌲🌲❤️
Thank you Brenda. Ah yes my dad, he is so good with everything that he does. He paints, draws, makes, fixes….just everything really. Wood carving was his most recent obsession lol. Ooh yes everything is soo very green here, it’s lovely to see. It really could do with a trim but it’s gotten so cold at the moment…it makes it not so inviting to get out there and do it.
I watched this video and I must admit I was slightly annoyed at a memory of some snob who said you lived in a hovel… You have created a wonderfully warm and welcoming home and its a testimony to you both that you can continue to evolve your once abandoned house into a home and always be cheerful about the hard work, this last year alone has seen phenomenal changes when you saw the Christmas flashback. Stay strong and stay positive, much love from Glasgow
There have been such awful viruses going around. Take care. The decs are absolutely lovely. So pleased to see you warm and cosy. The property is looking so good.
Yes, we have kept everyone away from the house as we really didn't want to pass thi on to anyone else. Even last year it felt like Christmas but this year is so difference. Curtains, carpet, chairs and a lovely, oh so warm fire in the living room and the bedroom is sooooo warm. It is lovely. We will plod on, but by bit, and one day we will get there. Thanks for much for always watching and commenting Jean :-)
I saw your first videos long ago. You two buying a house with woodworm everywhere. look how far you come. Love to see your progres, even if you don't see it. We see what do guys are doing.
That feels a lifetime ago. Oddly enough we watched some of it the other night. It shocks us what we took on when you look back. Some things haven't changed, like the plaster on the wall, but hopefully that will change soon. Slowly but sure, we will get there. Thank you for continuing to watch and seeing what we are up to. Sometimes, not much lol.
We have been clearing fallen trees from around the houae here in Mid Wales but we are lucky to still have electricity , internet and sky. Apart from sheds and polytunnels we are all still intact. Heres to anyone that is suffering with wind damage and flooding that surrounds us.
That doesn't sound good with sheds and polytunnels Colin, hopefully not to much £ involved. One good thing for us is that we can't lose the roof on the one outbuilding. Hope you get sorted soon.
Hi Vickie. We got off Scott free really. Even people who have commented on here had worse. Tiles gone, damage to cars etc. We were lucky and proud of the house for holding on to it's slates haha. Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-)
Thank you Tracy. Same as last year with a few more added. The big difference is how tidy it looks and how lovely and warm it is. Oh I do like the warm haha. Hope you are both well and looking forward to Christmas :-)
I love your decorations, your place looks really nice with all of it, especially the ones that have been hand made or have a good memory attached. I hope that you both feel completely better before your birthday Dawn, and that you have something special planned.❤️
Aww thank you, yeah it’s lovely having certain decorations for Christmas that you have lovely memories attached to. It’s what Christmas is about isn’t it? Ooh I hope so too for my birthday, nothing planned at the moment. Just feeling back to normal right now would be present enough 😂
Sorry you guys haven't been well, I had it the week before and so did all my family, really bad colds going around! The Christmas decorations are lovely, and I love the hand carved one by your dad, and that he watches all the videos! Hope you are all feeling better now ❤
This is the first real cold we have had since being here Ash, it is a real pain in the bum. Normally we have a bit of a sniff and that's that but this time is us feeling poorly and not really being able to do much. Dawn dad is talented. He has done stain glass stuff, he paints water colour, he makes rings, knives and everything else. It is a pleasure knowing him really. Nearly better, a few more days hopefully and we will be all sorted again :-) Hope you are doing OK. See you soon :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject Glad to hear your all almost better, we had the exact same thing - I haven't had a cold in years and whatever this cold I had a week or two ago it really knocked all of us and the energy and motivation was zero!! So glad to hear it's on the way out for you :)
Hi Kaye I did thing of an electric blanket as well as boxing it in but I think the regulator could just be no good. Ours doesn't work with the mention of the word cold haha. Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
You guys should stay in the warmth and get a good rest while you're mending, I can still hear in your voice that you still haven't healed properly yet. Take care and hugs from Cape Town ❤️
Yeah I must admit this is quite the lingerer! We thought we’d be done with it by now but it’s made of tougher stuff than that 😂 The stoves are burning bright though so that’s lovely! 🥰
Hello thank you for your information about the batteries. I have had the same problem. I spotted the real catten asleep on the bed and sofa. I might get one of your fireside cats it certainly makes a home when you do not have areal one. Stay warm and Bless you all
Hi Anna My mum has the exact same "fake" catten and he used to live sleeping on an old bird table in her garden, it really did look real. The battery savers are great if you have power sockets available, certainly for indoors. I see no reason why it won't continue to work for the hot water heater, but we will see. Have a lovely rest of the week and thank you :-)
Dawn & Ben the decorations look wonderful. There is a woodstove in your bathroom, does it work? I am so glad that you have wood fires for heat, I can't imagine not having a wood fire and running out of petrol for a generator when the temps are so cold. Now that you have all been sick you should be able to enjoy your Christmas with good health!! That was some wind storm you had WOW! Glad you all ok, dry and warm
Thank you very much Janie, we are really pleased with it this year, such a difference 12 months make even though we haven't actually done anything with the living room yet. Oh we love the stoves, everywhere is so warm, even our bedroom benefits a little. The wind was something else. I know we haven't been here long but we have had lots of storms, this one was the biggest yet. In the end, our power came back on Monday 2pm. The generator is a god send though as we can run a close to normal house with that running. We are on the mend. Dawn is still poorly but I am feeling much brighter. Our first big cold since being here. I blame the plane trips. Hope you two are well as I understand there was some snow in Ottawa over the last few days. Look after yourselves and thank you as always :-)
Thanks Kate! Yes it was nice to look back over this time last year and realise a lot has changed. Still lots and lots to do but it is definitely nice to see a change! Xx
Awww thank you Kate. Fingers crossed we will be fighting fit again soon. Yes, we didn't think much had been done until we watched last years decorations video. Thank you Kate for being a valued channel member and keeping an eye on us as we plod along with our restoration / renovation. (I could have just said journey, but not a huge fan of the saying) hahaha. Have a nice rest of the week and thanks again :-)
You are getting there with the house. It's looking nice and cosy with the 3 stoves lit. Are you having a range with back boiler for heating rads and hot water? Imagine a UK new build in Scotland that's all electric heat pump and no chimney when the electric fails! Can't beat a nice reliable multifuel stove.
Hi James. Yes, a large range with back boiler in the kitchen for the hot water and radiators in the future. Opening up the huge fireplace in the kitchen will be first but deciding if winter is the right time to do it. We must admit that having a solid fuel range with back boiler won't come with it's own complications as we can't have a water tank in the loft space as there is no rafters to put a tank on, only collar ties. This makes an oil fed combi boiler look more appealing. We have some ideas though with how we can work the water tanks. Thanks for watching and commenting James :-)
My son and I have had a cold bug for 3 weeks now, can't seem to shake it. Glad you survived the storm without damage, we took a hammering in the foot of the Brecons but are still standing thankfully. Hope you all feel better soon. Your dad is talented and your tree looks fab. Take care.
Yes the Brecons can really get it can't it. I remember years ago as a computer engineer being sent over there from Worcester for a job. Middle of winter, no idea where I was going, it wasn't a pleasant trip haha. Pleased you got away with it as did we. Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-) Have a nice Christmas :-)
Hi Dawn and Ben..it's nice to see green grass...in my town on Ontario Canada, the piles of snow from me shoveling and a guy cleaning out the driveway with a plow ,are about 6 feet high or more..just today it rained and took the piles down a bit...but it's early and we get lots more..the past few years have spoiled us as I only had to shovel the drive 3 times all last winter.Glad you're warm and cozy and your house is starting to look very comfortable.
Hi Ann. Snow for us is lovely to look at but I don't think we would deal with it being 6ft high, especially when you know you are going to be getting more. I know Ottawa has had some snow already, not 6ft though, not yet anyway. We are very warm and cosy this year thank you, it is so nice. Lack of water and being cold are my top concerns, now the cold part is a thing of the past. It is also helping the house dry out no end. Have a nice rest of the week and thank you for commenting :-)
Thank you very much indeed. Oooh, can't not put the decorations up on the 4th in our house lol. We have been doing it 27 years now. And we have good news.... the plaster / lime putty "should" be with us this week. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Like you we did'nt sleep all night, eventually got up lit the woodburner and listened to the horrendous noise the wind was making!! We did have tiles coming off which put a few dents in the car!! Never had a storm like it ! Glad you are better and had no damage. all looking very Christmassy, love it.🌲🌲🌲🌲
Awww no not the hitting the car. Losing tiles is enough without damage like that too. Hopefully you can get everything sorted quickly in time for a Christmas break. Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
This one video is my Sunday treat. How marvelous everything looks! I feel so lazy, have only gotten out a poinsettia plant (huge and fake) by the fireplace. Need to get going. It has been so very, very cold here in Idaho. Icey and bitter. What a difference in the corner house!!! The tree is beautiful. When you pan to the tree from the kitchen.....wish you would do that next year as well. That scene is going to change so much as your renovation continues. It is a special view through the house. I noticed right away the difference it made outside at the edges of the house. There is no water puddled around; everything looks just great. And, added bonus is a Santa in the window upstairs! How wonderful that Lucas displays his love of the holiday in his room. That is just so magic to me. You've done an amazing job considering all the work that you both did outside this year. The big deal is warmth and that was important and you have achieved that in some of the rooms. Have a wonderful week and get well both of you!
Hi Bobbie, a Poinsettia makes Christmas even if that is the only decoration, fake or not. The house has changed a lot in the 12 months since last Christmas but we don't reall notice. Hopefully we will get the fireplace in the kitchen opened up soon(ish) that will make a big difference. The house has never felt so dry and warm. The heat helps rid of the damp, the damp gone helps with the heat and it feels lovely. Yes, Lukas does like his decorations and loves his new stove, his room is soooooo warm. Hopefully you have a nice week ahead and it warms up a little for you. Thank you Bobbie for always joining us :-)
Hi Rebecca. Hopefully soon, once the lime putty and plaster arrives we can start making it look less industrial on the walls. Marry Christmas to you too and thank you :-)
Thank you Irishgranny. It really feels like a proper home now. It has always felt like home, but now it is warm and cosy too. Thank you for always watching and commenting :-)
I’m just getting to watch your video today, because I’ve been sick too. Guess i need that big old plague x on my door. I was hoping to get decorations up this week but just no energy. Might try this next weekend or just enjoy seeing other’s, like yourselves, spread Christmas joy. Ben thanks for the battery idea! Hope the weather lets up for y’all. Till next weekend.
Oh Dory, you are not supposed to be sick and we hope your start to feel brighter really soon. We have posted a big X for you to put on your door hahaha. Weather is all good again now, other than trees in fields down in various places, you wouldn't know there had been a storm. There isn't a branch or leaf moving on the trees and it isn't raining lol. We hope you feel better really soon Dory and thank you as always :-) x
Thank you so much for information about the batteries and the cold (obviously having a blond moment) I was having a battery issue - but now I understand why!!!!! 😂
Yes the cold just stops them from being at the best until they are warmed back up again. Although the boiler sounded like it should light, the spark the batteries produced wasn't strong enough with very cold batteries. The battery saver makes a huge difference. Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
Hope in a day or two we will all be back to normal. The coughing has been and gone now, just the heady feeling. Thanks for watching and commenting Mark :-)
Glad you made it through Storm Darragh. We lost power too but it was restored later the next day. You don’t know how much you need it till it’s gone eh!
Hi Maeve. That's good with being restored quickly. There are still places up here without power at the moment. We got ours back Monday 2pm, which was a day earlier than expected in the end. The house did well in the storm though, we are quite proud of it managing to hold on to it's tiles lol. Some places here were without water too. That is something we have plenty of. Yes, even though we got fuel for the generator, having mains electricity is lovely. And back to peace and quiet without the generator running. Thank you as always for watching and commenting :-)
Hope you feel better soon, guys😊😊 and I hope you’ve got your power back where I live in East Anglia. It was a bit windy blustery but we definitely missed the worst of the storm.
Hi Ron. Power is now back and the generator ready for next time. It was really bad over here. We have had several storms in the last 18 months but that was the worst so far. Hope all is well with you.
Oh no, you as well, I don't know anyone who hasn't had this cold, it's rampant so I'm pleased you're all over it, its been awful. Your home looks just beautiful in it's Christmas finery, and I can tell it feels warm and cosy. And that staircase!! How I love your conker brown staircase❤. As always lovely to see my favourite couple.❤
We are nearly over it now Pat thank you. Hopefully you haven't caught it. The house feels so nice, apart from our room. It is still quite cold but we don't mind. The rest of the house is lovely and warm and dry. Haha, we wondered if you would mention the staircase. We know how you love the conker brown. Have a nice week Pat and thank you so much x
Glad to hear you all are on the mend. Our daughter’s birthday is Dec. 15th. One year, when she was about 8 or 9, we put the tree up on her birthday. She as not happy about that! Your living room looks so cozy. Rubbish year!!?? You guys have accomplished so much this past year.
Hi Ed, how are things with you? Yes, on the mend, hopefully the next could of days we will be normal again. Our daughter couldn't wait to get home from school on her birthday to see the Christmas decorations. For her 16th, which was on the 15th December and a Friday I think, we got home at midnight after her party. When the kids had gone to bed, we snuck the decorations down and were decorating about 1:15am, so when she woke up it was all done for her birthday. We must be mad. The year went far too fast and we didn't really seem to get started after April from taking a 2 week break. Then August happened with my Dad and it has been really rubbish since then. 2025 will be much better :-) We are pleased with our achievements though :-) Thank you Ed, as always, for watching and commenting :-)
I love your house so much..even in its current state. It's not a race to the end :) I love you guys too! That is dang brilliant with the batteries...he's a smart one! even having been a shit year, ...same, the progress on the land and house while settling into life in a different country is worth mentioning. Living it, seeing it everyday makes it less dramatic, like watching the grass grow, but go away for a month and a place is dramatically different. You brighten my day every time you post, truly thanks for that :) Manny Blessings!!! edit: I was just falling to sleep and realized it was a shit year because of your personal loss.I am so sorry, I'm slow on the uptake sometimes and I didn't even put it together.
What lovely things to say Heather, thank you so much. It amazes us how lovely everyone is who watches and commenting, it warms our hearts it really does. Ah it doesn't matter, a shit year is a shit year for whatever reason, it just so happened to be this reason this year. Hopefully next year will be what we hoped this year would be haha. Thanks for editing, a really nice thing to do. You say thank you to us? No really, we are the ones who thank you Heather. Have a lovely week :-)
I got some of those battery eliminators off your recommendation for window decorations. Never heard tell of them before They're really good . Means I can have them on a timer . What A difference from last Christmas. You'd only just moved your bed out of the kitchen . . House is looking great . Very un-hovel like 😋 . See youz in the week .
Great little things Mitch aren't they. Save a load of agro each year finding batteries. Yes you are right. 23rd December we moved our bed upstairs into our bedroom having just "finished" the ceiling. That is a very loose "finished". My sister phoned me crying with laughter after reading your comment with it being Very un-hovel like hahaha. See you soon. Stay warm.
Oh we can't compare to you over there, we don't think we could deal with the cold and snow you get. I don't think we would be able to leave the house. Saying that, now we have so much warmth in the house, we are struggling now haha. Thank you Billy for always watching and commenting :-)
Glad you are feeling better. The tree looks lovely. The house is coming along. The shortest day of the year will soon be here and then the days will start getting longer.
Oh my goodness I can’t wait! I took a wander down the lane a couple of days ago and thought….”ooh we’re nearing the middle of December, won’t be long until spring!” I love spring ♥️
Only with the little bits I know Carol and there aren't many little bits hahaha. I had the not radiator radiator cover idea and needed a good lie down after having it hahaha.
We will see what we can do. No, we really will see what we can do lol, this cold we all have is a right pain in the A. The plaster is now due sometime this week, but as it is Tuesday, we may not get any plastering done. That will be a new thing to learn. Thanks Nigel for watching and commenting :-)
Thank you Eileen. We though of an electric water heater but the cost of running them is high as we always like hot water available on demand if possible. The future holds a large solid fuel range in the kitchen which will feed a hot water tank and radiators. If we do keep having problems with the gas heater though, an electric one may be a solution until we get the range sorted. Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
It's been one of those weeks here, too. Illness, mechanical failure, dogs trying to kill each other, vet bills, frozen water tanks, computer failures.. the list goes on and no sign of it all stopping. Lord have Mercy!
Oh my goodness, yes we are definitely with you on that! Our car is acting up too! 🫣 it’s all sent to try us isn’t it?! Still feeling rough and wishing that would just do one and leave! Roll on the spring….not sure that will stop the dogs trying to kill each other but it’s one less thing!
That is a lot worse than our week Heather, so in a way, thank you for making our week feel better. It does happen to everyone doesn't it when nothing seems to go right for days or weeks on end. Fingers crossed things get better for you very soon :-) Thanks for sharing your rubbish week with us :-)
Well done, I am relieved you got through the storm ok, apart from the power cut you are having, it looks very Christmassy, you made the right move heading back home, after the petrol run, Ben sounds full of cold, and the log burners are doing the trick, by the sound of it you will be nice and cosy over the Christmas period. xxx♥♥♥
They changed the time and date for the electric to the 10th originally and then to the 9th. It all came back on at 2pm, 6 hours earlier than planned. We got petrol the following day so had the generator running for 18 hours, that helps haha. Yep, this cold really got us. Hopefully the next couple of days and we will all be well again. It is now always warm here Rob, Well, you know how I like my warmth Your Father Christmas carving is popular :-) XXX
I know it may be a long way away but when you worry about a roof and lucky being around farm yards. I think a screwed down roof would elevate worry they have so many different ones I had wind that lifted the carport roof and that was frightening but lucky she was screwed on. Just an idea me sitting here thinking lol
Hi Ben and Dawn! SO glad you have weathered the storm and all of you are safe and sound if a bit "under the weather" with colds or flu!!! You have accomplished so much since this time last year and it shows!! What a marvelous job you have done in everything. I hope that 2025 is a banner year where all the "jobs" you plan come out as you wish. Thank you for sharing your progress with us and look forward to learning more come the New Year. Take care and see you both next week.
Aww Cristy us too! This year just hasn’t gone the way we had hoped but like you say bring in 2025 to get all those things done that we thought we’d have done already. It was quite nice to look back over the last Christmas and see how much had changed since then though which is very nice. It looks like a home now rather than just a series of rooms. Which was lovely to realise. ♥️
You can also take old 5v cell phone chargers and use a cheap circuit board called a "buck converter" to step down the voltage to anything you want between 1 and 4.5, it's very handy.
I read your comment Jim and could have kicked myself. I have two buck convertors in my 3D printer for an upgraded fan and light strip I added and I probably have 4 convertors in a box doing nothing. But, in my defence, I do like the simplicity of the purchased battery savers as they are all wired up and done for me. I will now keep this in mind though as you may have saved us a fortune on future projects :-) Thanks for always watching and commenting :-)
Hope your all feeling better, there is a really nasty virus going around with an never ending cough. It was lovely to see your Christmas tree go up in the living room, so I went back and rewatched your 1 year catch up video, and I'm amazed how far you have come,I would highly recommend anyone to watch it,it shows how much hard work you had to do just to make it livable and into a home. Hope you have a fab Christmas and pat yourselves on the back for what you have achieved. 😊
That was so kind of you to go back and watch the 12 month catchup. Not much has really happened since then, not anything big anyway. Lots of small bits and pieces. I say small, the log burners are a huge thing really and have changed how the house feels completely. We are proud of ourselves so far and by the end of it all, we hope we can sit back and relax. Maybe.... haha Thanks so much for watching and commenting :-)
@ Virginia has had some comfortable temperate weather this week. Next week it will be much cooler, which I love. Walking my dog, Jim, during winter is one of my favorite things. Thank you for asking.
Hi John Thanks for the suggestion. I certainly need to get the main pipes boxed in and I have heat wire now so can get that on them. I may box the bottle in though but it stands a good chance the regulator is not good. Thanks again for your suggestion. It is always nice to hear from you each week. Have a nice week ahead :-)
I wish you a warm and safe festive season Ben and Dawn.... whilst we come into a hot Christmas summer here in Australia. Maybe one day we will meet (and no I'm not some weirdo - actually a child psych) until then I will continue to support you in small financial ways. Good people always recognise good people. Much love Haley xxx
Awww 🥰 that is a lovely thought, never for one second thought you might be a weirdo 😉 That must be an interesting but also most likely a very soul destroying/heartbreaking (at times) job you have? We truly appreciate your financial and just being here contributions immensely. So thank you very much. Xxx
We are always here Akiva, Every Sunday at 5pm GMT. We are doing well apart from the cold we all have at the moment. It really has been a bad one. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Aww Maria thank you so much. So sorry the delay in thanking you, we’ve still feeling quite under the weather but fingers crossed on the road to recovery now ♥️
You have accomplished so much! Hope you all feel better soon and such a clever workaround for the batteries. Could you use an insulated wrap on your propane tanks?
Thank you very much indeed. I think the regulator just needs replacing. Another commenter said theirs works down to -40°C - Ours just doesn't work haha. Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Hi Ben, what a great way of getting rid of the batteries, I didn't even know that you can buy those adapters. I'm definitely going to be looking at it for a few things that I usually have to recharge. I stopped buying single use batteries years ago but rechargeable ones are not cheap.❤️
They work so well, that was the main reason why Ben looked into something else. A few of our Christmas decorations are battery operated and we’d turn them on then forget to switch them off….you go through batteries like nobodies business when you do that and you’re right rechargeables are expensive.
last year you wondered would you have power to light the tree and you have done loads this year i'm wondering will i have power to watch this Video as it has been of and on light flashing Christmas lights all weekend from Storm Darragh's havoc
Haha very true Tom, we forgot to mention the lack of mains electricity 12 months ago and that it was all being run on solar power. This year we were running on generator power due to the storm. We finally got mains power back Monday 2pm, a day earlier than the revised date of Tuesday 8pm. Hope all is well with you up there :-)
Hi both have you ever thought of putting a water Cylinder Tank Jacket on your gas cylinder i dont know if it would help with the temperature problem but might be worth a try 🤗
We wouldn't have anything to lose from it. We think the regulator is the probable cause more than anything else though at the moment. I kept it wrapped up last night and it still wanted some warm water to get it going in the morning. I just don't think it likes the cold haha. Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
Loving the Xmas decos and the cat with hat ❤ i want one too! Plus your Dads Santa is amazing! Does he sell them? Happy days and bless you all❤🎉from Oz🦘🎄🦘⭐️
The cat with the hat looks so real. Peach, the real cat, sometimes looks just like it when she is curled up asleep. Yes, Dawn's dad is talented . No, I think he just makes things to stop him from getting bored haha. Have a lovely warm week in Oz. It is nearly Christmas BBQ time for you. We want photos please :-)
Happy Christmas. It looks wonderful. I still have my belongings in storage after needing to move into my parent’s house to care for them. I know what it’s like to not have the little things that feel like home. It’s family so it’s comfortable but it’s not the same. You pick up little things over years full of memories This year I’ve only put the snow man runner on the table. Now my brother isn’t well & with an extra person to care for I don’t know if we’ll even get a tree this year. 😔 I’m determined to do some decorating & to bake though. We’ll see how that goes. Good recovery news. A screw moved on one of the plates in my leg. it’s ok & I’m allowed partial weight bearing & after 3 weeks I have no restrictions !!! Woohoo!! The pain is a lot worse now that I’m walking on it but it is a relief & I’m getting around a lot faster. Thanks for your support along the way. Wait. I just saw the end of the video. Way to go with members. That’s awesome. I’m so happy for you both. 👏 👏👏 I know it was a tough year. We’ve had too many recently. I hope next year is a lot better for all of us. I’m so happy you’re getting even more settled in. With all of your hard work, you deserve every comfort & happiness in your Corner Home. Get well soon. Take care of yourselves ✌️💚♥️🎄 🧑🎄 🥶⛄️⛈️❄️
Aww Dish you really do have your plate full right now especially with your own health issues too. I know what you mean, there really isn’t anything that compares to your own home and your own belongings for making you feel at peace with life. I hope you’ve been able to do some baking as I know you are determined to get to that. Absolutely fantastic news with the no restrictions in 3 weeks…..you must be sooo pleased with that? How long has it been now since you injured it, it must be quite a few months now? Oh I hope for a better year next year for all that need a little relief from the feeling of never ending tough times. May 2025 be a year of productivity and nice things! ♥️🍀🤞 Happy Christmas to you and yours too and I hope your leg lets you do all the things you’ve been longing to do and also your brother gets well soon too. ❤️🎄
That battery adapter is a brilliant idea. ‘Cause it has the Uk three pinned plug on and not the French two pin round plug, I take it I could order one to use in the UK? 👍
Hi This is the first sort I purchased for the Christmas decorations. I liked this version better as it has both AA and AAA sizes in one pack. They are still working well this year. www.amazon.co.uk/Battery-Re-placer-Eliminator-Adapter-Electronic/dp/B07ZVX538K/ref=sr_1_8?crid=V2H8FM0HE36N&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.jBey6ZOiACHFeT2Uh_07KOWo3FNorgyFu5n9KHVXi0LpaBSoqtv7fu9b4npxPwxyfb2WkelIooYD9toRoFwi4o8-z-j9u154gxujekRUklC82uDD_PW9sKCrDSGQpsvhacLPiNTn-nKQ79IXEGfOk1FKpL1QLWhEeY4dTGPcMtR3915naRcupr8AEWk84AHO7ShJexuNBvP_gDOeQakZfoX9n6meHxOIA0rEe2r72tbY-D81K_gM_Eh3qWOpJgIKbj2vmJ5C8_7-lBbaJQkdIh3aIce9tAtMKrYHxHySTgs.ooqn71j-cGC8ZQ7DyAvj92-C3HI6hu1IaDs2YExruHA&dib_tag=se&keywords=battery+saver&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1733844619&sprefix=battery+saver%2Caps%2C95&sr=8-8
We use these outside in the Canadian winter. Canbat Low-Temperature Lithium Batteries: The Best Cold Weather Lithium Battery for Extreme Conditions. Canbat's Low-Temperature Lithium Batteries are designed to provide reliable performance in the harshest cold weather conditions, making them the best lithium battery for Canada's extreme climates. If your pipes outside freeze and burst water will pour all over your extension cord. The house looks great for Christmas.
Hi Heather. I will have a look into these batteries, thank you. Sometimes we can't get things over here that you can as we never get to such a cold temperature as you. I must say I am pleased, I don't think I could cope. We were talking to someone the other day and it was -15°C outside..... I would be like a bear and hibernate. We have the heat wire now for the pipes so will get that done soon and also box it all in. Hopefully that will solve freezing pipes. Thanks so much for watching. Info from Canada helping with the cold is always helpful. Thank you again :-)
Well hopefully by the summer we will have a solid fuel range in the kitchen heating the water and will be able to put the current heater into storage as it is only a temporary solution for hot water, just been an 18 month solution so far. Fingers crossed we will have a productive years Thanks for watching and commenting with the idea :-)
Very clever use of those battery adapters! I had no idea those things existed, very useful.
Thank you so much Cheryl. Happy Christmas to you too :-)
Sorry to hear you’ve been poorly.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting and reminding us on our progress :-)
We hope all is well in Texas :-)
You are a precious couple we live in the north of Ireland and welcome you to this lovely land and looking forward to your exciting journey
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting :-)
The little real tree from Tesco did real well over the year.
It’s clean and tidy and each room has the right furniture in it - I think you have come further than you think - love the decorations x
Ooh I wonder if I have any foil bubble mailing envelopes…I’ll have to have a look in my stash of packaging.
Lukas very much liked your comment when I read it to him, he is very proud of how his room is looking. So thank you Sharon for making his day! ♥️
Hi guys nice to see you back together
Ben a little tip change that regulator on that gas bottle re-new that pipe coming out of your gas bottle as that pipe looks discoloured, plus put a bit of lagging around the pipe wrap a tea towel around the regulator I would use butane gas as that is okay up to -20. We have the same in Ireland don’t have a problem never frozen
That fireplace looks lovely well done 👍👍
Hi Jill
I do need to get the pipes boxed in and you are right, it doesn't need to be super nice, so I might try and crack on with that soon.
The house is looking nice and cosy.🤗
Thank you so much :-)
Storm Darragh was a really bad one, i was up most of the night too here in Offaly. No trees down and power stayed on.
That's good Bill. It certainly was a big one and I think other than the power going off, we were lucky.
Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
i love your warm cosy house and the christmas trees and decorations are really beautiful. I’m
so happy that ye have all the fires going and that you’re nice and warm. Lucas s tree is really cool too and his warm fire so cosy. Big shout out to your daddy
Dawn with the cute ornaments
@@thecornerhouseproject
Yes for the moment it is , I have not bought or used LemSip in the last 5 years and saved a fortune.
Sounds good to me 👍👍
Well,I think you guys have done a wonderful job considering 👍🥰
Thanks for the video despite you not feeling so well. Your house looks lovely with the decorations! hope next week week you all are better again!
We feel much better today, hopefully a couple of days time we will all be great again.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting :-)
You guys have done a great job this year! So much work accomplished! The decorations look fantastic! I just love your dad’s carving work!!
Thank you! He’s pretty good isn’t he, my dad! We’re so pleased we looked at the video of last Christmas to be able to see the difference. X
Hi Kelly
Dawn's dad is very clever, can do pretty much anything really.
The years feels like we haven't done anything huge, but I suppose huge things will stop and it will be the little bits that will bring it all together.
Thanks so much Kelly for watching and commenting :-)
The house looks great and really cosy 😊
Thanks. We do like how war it is everywhere, even when it is freezing outside.
Decorating look so sweet 👍🥰
I watched this video and I must admit I was slightly annoyed at a memory of some snob who said you lived in a hovel…
You have created a wonderfully warm and welcoming home and its a testimony to you both that you can continue to evolve your once abandoned house into a home and always be cheerful about the hard work, this last year alone has seen phenomenal changes when you saw the Christmas flashback.
You two are adorable. Stay warm! 🤧😊
Awww thank you very much. Oh we will. The fires are all lit and giving out so much heat.
Have a nice week and thank you again :-)
You're such troopers. Well done for all that you've done. I really admire your tenacity.
Awww thank you very much indeed, that means a lot to us :-)
Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-)
We have been clearing fallen trees from around the houae here in Mid Wales but we are lucky to still have electricity , internet and sky. Apart from sheds and polytunnels we are all still intact. Heres to anyone that is suffering with wind damage and flooding that surrounds us.
That doesn't sound good with sheds and polytunnels Colin, hopefully not to much £ involved. One good thing for us is that we can't lose the roof on the one outbuilding.
Hope you get sorted soon.
Nice decorations and the fireplace ❤🎉. Sorry for the storms.😢. Glad you are safe and warm inside.
Hi Vickie.
We got off Scott free really. Even people who have commented on here had worse. Tiles gone, damage to cars etc. We were lucky and proud of the house for holding on to it's slates haha.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-)
Hey guys, your living room decorations look lovely. Glad to hear you're all feeling better.
Thank you Tracy. Same as last year with a few more added. The big difference is how tidy it looks and how lovely and warm it is. Oh I do like the warm haha.
Hope you are both well and looking forward to Christmas :-)
Thank you for showing us the progress. You both have done so much!!!! Please keep take care of yourselves and rest.
You are most welcome Lin and thank you very very much :-)
I love your decorations, your place looks really nice with all of it, especially the ones that have been hand made or have a good memory attached.
Nearly better, a few more days hopefully and we will be all sorted again :-)
Hope you are doing OK.
Your home is very festive. When we heated with propane we had an insulated blanket over it to prevent the gas from freezing off.
Hi Kaye
I did thing of an electric blanket as well as boxing it in but I think the regulator could just be no good.
Hola frim Spain, glad your feeling better, take care. House looks very Xmassy & very cosy. Love & hugs ♥️🌲♥️🌲♥️
Thank you :-)
We hope you have a lovely Christmas Patricia.
Hello thank you for your information about the batteries. I have had the same problem. I spotted the real catten asleep on the bed and sofa. I might get one of your fireside cats it certainly makes a home when you do not have areal one. Stay warm and Bless you all
Hi Anna
My mum has the exact same "fake" catten and he used to live sleeping on an old bird table in her garden, it really did look real.
Wow, so much change in a year, fantastic guys!! Get well soon! Kxx
@@thecornerhouseproject you too all x
Dawn and Ben, good on you with your Christmas tree/decorations! Well done! Your home is slowly coming together!❤ 🎄
Thank you Bobbie for always joining us :-)
You have done so much! Green and beautiful there. Merry Christmas❤
Hi Rebecca. Hopefully soon, once the lime putty and plaster arrives we can start making it look less industrial on the walls.
Marry Christmas to you too and thank you :-)
🙋♀️❤️. What a year! You've done so much though, and your home looks so cozy! Love to see the holidays in your hearts!
Thank you and yes it does look and feel very cozy. It’s that kind of house that lends itself well to coziness! We love it 🥰
Even with your bad week, your video made me happy!
Awww thank you so much :-)
Your home is coming along nicely. The decorations are lovely, and it look so cosy and warm. ❤
Thank you Irishgranny. It really feels like a proper home now. It has always felt like home, but now it is warm and cosy too.
Thank you for always watching and commenting :-)
Your getting there x takes time xx 😘
It does indeed. With one foot in front of the other though, we will get there Jayne.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
ah, bless you both, glad youre well on the road to recovery and hope you're back to 100% soon. take good care
Amazing knowledge of batteries
I wouldn't say amazing Miriam, just an understanding of them lol.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Thanks for the annual tour…you guys convinced me to decorate for Xmas. Your views out the window were lovely…thanks!
It was our pleasure Chris. Hopefully we haven't caused you too much time decorating for Christmas :-)
Thanks for watching :-)
2025 will be much better :-) We are pleased with our achievements though :-)
Thank you Ed, as always, for watching and commenting :-)
@ All is well. Got our tree up. House not as festive as yours but enough for us.
A tree up makes it as festive as ours Ed. It is all in the heart.
Have a nice rest of the week.
Love the Christmas decorations stay safe 😊
Thank you Deborah. You too :-)
I love your house so much..even in its current state.
Stay warm.
Wind storms suck we get one every week here on Cape Breton Island nor easters in the winter bring snow and wind we call them wintercaines..
Loving the Xmas decs in the reno, we might have to do this to haha. Keep up the good work folks, all be warm and worth it in the end!!
Very nice Lucas, and mom and dad🙂
Thank you Sandy :-)
Looks lovely!
Thank you very much Ann :-)
Ben, you are so clever.
He is pretty good isn’t he? 🥰
Only with the little bits I know Carol and there aren't many little bits hahaha. I had the not radiator radiator cover idea and needed a good lie down after having it hahaha.
Its all progress guys. Great decorations and this time next year i think you would have advanced so much more.
Hopefully we will have Andrew. Not a great year so hopefully 2025 will be better for us.
Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
Looking good!
Thank you Linda :-)
Great work guys as usual, can't wait for next week.
Nice holiday decor is an indoor water heater tank or flash not possible there?
Fingers crossed things get better for you very soon :-)
Thanks for sharing your rubbish week with us :-)
Well done, I am relieved you got through the storm ok, apart from the power cut you are having, it looks very Christmassy, you made the right move heading back home, after the petrol run, Ben sounds full of cold, and the log burners are doing the trick, by the sound of it you will be nice and cosy over the Christmas period.
It is now always warm here Rob, Well, you know how I like my warmth
Your Father Christmas carving is popular :-)
XXX
@@thecornerhouseproject Great news 🙂
I will now keep this in mind though as you may have saved us a fortune on future projects :-)
Thanks for always watching and commenting :-)
Maybe.... haha
Thanks so much for watching and commenting :-)
Hello from Virginia 🇺🇸
Hello Carol in Virginia 🇺🇸 from Dawn in Leitrim 🇮🇪
Hello Carol, how is Virginia this week and how are you?
@ Virginia has had some comfortable temperate weather this week. Next week it will be much cooler, which I love. Walking my dog, Jim, during winter is one of my favorite things. Thank you for asking.
suggestion, ( Gas tanks being notorious for freezing )
suggest consider constructing a housing cabinet ( note this must have airflow )
regards: John..
Hi John
Thanks for the suggestion. I certainly need to get the main pipes boxed in and I have heat wire now so can get that on them. I may box the bottle in though but it stands a good chance the regulator is not good.
Thanks again for your suggestion. It is always nice to hear from you each week.
Have a nice week ahead :-)
Hope you both are on the mend.
Getting there Carol, it’s definitely one that is lingering about! Fingers crossed another couple of days and we will back to normal 🤞
Much brighter Carol thank you, not 100% yet but getting there.
Hope you are keeping well :-)
@@thecornerhouseproject I’m hanging in there.
👍👍
❤
Hi Cynthia. We hope you are well.
Thank you as always :-)
Xxx
Hello, it’s nice to see you, I’ve been wondering how you were doing. I hope you’re both okay 😊
We are always here Akiva, Every Sunday at 5pm GMT.
We are doing well apart from the cold we all have at the moment. It really has been a bad one.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
Thanks
Just a little for Xmas xxx
Aww Maria thank you so much. So sorry the delay in thanking you, we’ve still feeling quite under the weather but fingers crossed on the road to recovery now ♥️
You have accomplished so much! Hope you all feel better soon and such a clever workaround for the batteries. Could you use an insulated wrap on your propane tanks?
Thank you very much indeed.
I think the regulator just needs replacing. Another commenter said theirs works down to -40°C - Ours just doesn't work haha.
Thank you for watching and commenting :-)
The house is looking good.
Thank you 🤩
Hi Ben, what a great way of getting rid of the batteries, I didn't even know that you can buy those adapters.
Muito legal essa árvore de natal.👏👏👍👍
Aww 🥳 thank you! 🎄
last year you wondered would you have power to light the tree and you have done loads this year i'm wondering will i have power to watch this Video as it has been of and on light flashing Christmas lights all weekend from Storm Darragh's havoc
You pick up little things over years full of memories
This year I’ve only put the snow man runner on the table. Now my brother isn’t well & with an extra person to care for I don’t know if we’ll even get a tree this year. 😔
I’m determined to do some decorating & to bake though.
I know it was a tough year.
Happy Christmas to you and yours too and I hope your leg lets you do all the things you’ve been longing to do and also your brother gets well soon too. ❤️🎄
🔥🔥👍👍
That battery adapter is a brilliant idea. ‘Cause it has the Uk three pinned plug on and not the French two pin round plug, I take it I could order one to use in the UK? 👍
Hi
This is the first sort I purchased for the Christmas decorations. I liked this version better as it has both AA and AAA sizes in one pack.
They are still working well this year.

So, you need a special room for the boiler and the heating system inside.
Perhaps a summer task?
Well hopefully by the summer we will have a solid fuel range in the kitchen heating the water and will be able to put the current heater into storage as it is only a temporary solution for hot water, just been an 18 month solution so far. Fingers crossed we will have a productive years
Thanks for watching and commenting with the idea :-)
