    Just picked up a 9,100 warranted miles, 1 owner.. full ford history, all extras even parking sensors and front heated screen!... 1.6 Auto 2000 Mk1 Giar silver.... garaged all its life like a brand new inside and out, even had the plastic film on the cill plates...man even the air hoses were still with that white powder on them from the moulds! Brought it 1/5/2024, for £2500 cash, for a reliably auto for my daughter's first car. Looks and runs like a BRAND NEW CAR WELL HAPPY. all the best.

    I owned a 1999 V plated metallic light green Mk1 Ford Focus 2.0 petrol Ghia with a plastic walnut dash which I bought really cheap for £500 in 2008 from my brother. Only had 55k on the clock and sadly I then did too many miles and let it go at 156k in 2014. Sold it for £500 though so got my money back, was a fantastic car.

    I'd open a dedicated Mk1 Focus rear subframe and rear hard brakeline restoration shop for these enthusiasts.
    What I miss: a series of 2.5V6 Focus. That'd be a blockbuster.

    It was lovely to meet you on Saturday and glad you liked my little green Saloon! If you ever want to feature it on the channel please do let me know, I'd be delighted to have it featured by a true fan of these cars.

    What rots the front wings out and sill more than any dirt that gets trapped by the mud flap are leaves that get past the scuttle pannel and then sit and rot between the bottom of the wing and the wheel arch liner.
    A car fitted with the mudflaps are less prone to rust at the bottom of the wing at the sill due to any spray, salt and stones get deflected by the plastic flap rather than chipping the paint.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  5 месяцев назад

      my experience with mk1 mudflaps is when i fitted some to mine they caused surface rust on the wings in 3 months, the wings were fine before! If its a case of preventing salt and muds build up - regular washing goes a long way!

    • @AJ-tj7jm
      @AJ-tj7jm 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@usuallyfixingtinkering I had mudflaps fitted on mine from brand new, no issues problem is the clips are metal and can scratch the paint, removing them periodically increases the risk of scratching, you probably already had some minor stone chip damage and then the dirt got trapped underneath.
      Another issue with rust is where the door mirrors and trim attaches on the bootlid which in the case of my dad's car was damaged at the factory as they were clipped into place before the paint had chance to cure, rust started within 4 years.
      We had 3 MK1s mine was Spanish built the two my dad had were German Built, the difference between the fit and finish particularly of panel gaps were noticeable but oddly it was my Spanish built one that proved to be the most reliable and rust resistant.

    @paultasker7788 Месяц назад +1

    1.8 tddi was our hire car in Spain. We also had a 1.6 petrol and dad much preferred the diesel with its easy torque. Yes it was audible at pretty much all speeds and especially at idle but it was easy going. 1.6 needed lots of gear changing and was sluggish. I'm pretty sure it was really the 1.4 engine. Bought the last of the mark 1.6s for myself and it was zippy enough. Struggled when loaded with luggage and passengers but fine the rest of the time.

    I saw a 1.4CL for sale on Facebook today that I was tempted to buy, only £600. Pictures aren’t great but I think at least 1 of the rear arches maybe on the cusp of being completely rotten. The high mileage and the colour also put me off though. 156000 miles and it’s the same colour as my ghia.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  Год назад +1

      I can understand that
      too many similarities Jason but we definitely need one. I've very rarely seen one by me in 10 years and it was battered beyond all belief! A CL focus is very appropriate for the FOTU but still too exceptional, just without the thrills.

    The tddi is quite nice and more refined than you would expect, and it is impossible to get less than 500 miles from a tank of fuel. Some nice mk1s there.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering

    Had a 1.6 flight special edition 2004 3 door. You got air con and ABS. CD6000. But wheel trims and no trip computer. Fun handling. Only thing is I think they didn't fit enough sound deadening in it as tyres were really loud on a cruise. I swapped it for a mark 2 and regretted this despite a much pokier and refined 1.8 and better cruising noise. Lacked the fun factor of the original. Suspect the lightness has a lot to do with it.

      I’m prepared to spend a bit extra to get a lower mileage one in better nick. There’s never any guarantees though. There does seem to be quite a few around but they’re mostly all Midlands and London way. Just keep looking, patience is the key.

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  Год назад +1

      That is never a guarantee at this age, they all need work but buying a lower mileage one in good condition will give you the best fighting chance. I cannot promote these cars as cheap runabouts anymore. Hence why they are not dissapearing from hands of "non-enthusiasts". Usually at MOT time!

    Do the plastics lower trims on the sides stop any of the corrosion found in the versions with just metal trims?

    • @usuallyfixingtinkering
      @usuallyfixingtinkering  Год назад

      They're not metal trims - that is the outer sill. On pre-facelift models they are covered by the plastic trim which is actually a good idea to stop most dirty touching the sill therefore better rust protection is provided. However one problem with any car with plastic sill trims - if you don't take them off and hose down the built up rubbish in the ends of the sill in particular that causes horrendous rust. It's apples and pears, I'd prefer the Facelift models, I can see any deterioration and jump on it especially with wax!
